Ordered off the lunch menu at lunch time. Waitress said nothing about them not having a lunch menu today. Let us order from the lunch menu like we do every time we go there. We pointed at what we wanted on the lunch menu. Was charged extra for soup that was included with the meals. Soup bowls were half full. Was not given our egg rolls we ordered included with our meals. Was given lunch portions but charged for dinner portions. One of us was served the wrong meal, and had to send it back. Ordered vegetables and was given beef. Overcharged by $20.00. Cashier would not fix all the errors. Somewhat rude. We eat here every week. But this visit makes me not want to come back. Didn't leave a tip for the first time in my life to make up for some of what I was overcharged. Usually we leave a 25 percent tip. Ruined our day. Don't open if you can not give good service and quality food. Terrible. Nightmare. read more

There are menu options for people that don't like Americanized Asian cuisine, just be selective and ask questions. I did and I was pleasantly surprised. However, they do cater to a specific market and clientele who aren't all that discerning - it's hard to know what you've never been exposed to. Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here and loved that it is a nice, sit down Chinese restaurant. We asked the waitress what the most popular dinners were and got the egg rolls, hot and sour soup, Orange Chicken and Spicy Chicken. Everything was fresh, flavorful and well-plated. I work in the same shopping center as Kim San. It is my go to lunch when I don't bring something from home. Not only is it convenient for me but the food is always delicious! For lunch I always have the shrimp fried rice. It comes with a egg roll and it always hits the spot. I would also put their hot and sour soup up against anyone's in the state! When you walk in, it's everything you expect in your prepackaged Asian restaurant. Wood carvings, fish tanks, murals, dragon statues and Buddhas. The service isn't particularly consistent, it's been good, but I'm going to review it based on my last experience, because that reflects the most recent version of things. This particular time there was hardly anyone here, it was pre-pandemic. I never really have an issue with a server when things happen beyond their control, but in spite of what appeared to be an almost completely empty floor, the whole dining experience of getting my wife and I an appetizer, soups and entrees, took around an hour and a half. Not one bit of explanation, or much attendance in the way of our drink refills either. Now, that aside, the food is good, I love their curry fried rice and cream cheese wontons when I want to push the pescatarian boundary instead of being vegetarian. Overall, they're a good place, but they disappointed me with customer service last time. I'll still eat their food, but I might stick with take out. read more

I use to love Kim San! Their hot and sour soup was the best I've ever had. But the last 2 or 3 times we've gotten take out, it wasn't good. First time, I thought that everybody has an off day here and there. The second time, it wasn't any better. It has been a while but I thought I'd try it again. This 3rd time it was terrible. I couldn't even eat the shrimp. They were mushy. I threw them in the trash. The beef was ok but some pieces had terrible gristles. The brown sauce was so thick. The vegetables were ok. The hot and sour soup was not soup. It was so thick it was more like gravy. Last but not least, the egg roll was so greasy, I had to go wash my hands when I took the egg roll out of the package. I didn't eat that either. I do believe I can mark Kim San off my list. It's a shame because they use to be so good! read more

This is one of my favorite plain ol' restaurants. Very nice, not fancy. Food is pretty consistently good to very good. Service is good to excellent. The menu is huge and nicely varied. Easy to get to, comfortable, family-friendly, nice for a date, overall a very good value. That said, sometimes one or two of the elements doesn't make it up to par. Last week, our food was very, very tasty. Our service was friendly and attentive - even the busperson asked how we were doing and dropped everything to refill our sodas. The house sweet white was yummy. But.... the cheese-filled wontons were cold. Hm. Favorites - orange chicken and orange beef are GREAT. Love the way they cook their tofu - they do the chewy-on-the-outside trick for a lot of their dishes. Their egg foo yung is too tasty. My son is a huge fan of their pork fried rice and they usually cook shrimp very nicely for a plain ol' family restaurant. Not a fan of the vegetarian spicy tofu in brown sauce (think it's called farmer's delight or something). Their idea of spicy, by the way, isn't too, so don't be afeared. Give them a shot. I hope D.S. went on a night when the cook was on vacation and I went on a night when the wontons were, well, I dunno, something. I'm just about sure they'll be back on their game the night you take your family. I was down in Scottsboro visiting friends and they brought me here for dinner. They have an excellent dinner special that is less than $25 for a four course meal for two. We had egg drop soup, cheese wontons, Sesame and General Tso's chicken, and cheesecake. Everything was fresh and delicious. The cheesecake was surprisingly fantastic!! My husband and I have a Valentine's Day tradition of getting Chinese takeout and watching a movie at home. This V-Day, I decided to try Kim San for dinner. I made the mistake of not calling ahead, so when I got to the restaurant I had to wait about 30 minutes for my food to be ready. I can't be upset about that, because I should have known better. Anyways, the food ended up being really good. I had sesame chicken with fried rice. I was a little disappointed with the portion sizes--the amount of chicken was fine, but they didn't give me very much rice. My husband had the same experience with his noodles. The taste of the food was really good, though. When I was in the restaurant, I looked around and it seemed like it would be a nice place to eat. It's a little nicer than your standard small-town Chinese restaurant. I would really like to try this place again--and next time I'll call ahead. read more

We are from out of town and found this restaurant on YELP. This is by far the BEST CHINESE food I have ever tasted and I am very picky about Chinese food. I have been visiting Kim-San Chinese Restaurant since the early 90's back when the "Jackson Square" (strip mall) contained Wal-Mart, Movie Galley, Shoe Shoe, and more business that are either now defunct or have moved. It was my first Chinese food experience and I loved it so much I have always gone back. The food has always been consistently good, wait staff is friendly and the prices cannot be beat. A lunch special plate with entree, fried rice, eggroll (or extra rice, free per request), and a bowl of soup (get the hot and sour, seriously!) with drink costs less than $6! In my travels I have ate tons of "American" Chinese food and "True" Chinese food, yet I have never, ever found a single restaurant that serves hot & sour soup that even comes close to Kim-Sans recipe. The prices are decent - everything except the specialties are $5-10. -- Beef Chow Fun - I'm not sure if they misheard me, but I ended up with stringy rice noodles instead of the flat fun noodles. Shredded lettuce, bamboo shoots, mushrooms, and beef with garlic and MSG. (Upon further review of the menu, there's no explicit statement saying "No MSG.") -- Fried Rice - The rice wasn't dry enough and still sticky. Great atmosphere, perfect service and food. We did the two meals for $21.95. My wife had garlic shrimp and I had the pepper steak. The meals started with tempura shrimp and wonton soup. All food came out hot, nothing was cold. Cooked to order. Soft music played in the background, fish swam in the beautiful aquarium and the light was dimmed to a comfortable level. My wife and I recently went back from Nashville to eat here. Still the best Chinese I have ever had. The best hot and sour soup on the planet. The people here are always nice and greet you with a smile. The place is an older place and the Decore is still that of the 90s but it is always clean and the food is great, hot, fast and does not leave you feeling bad. I wish this place would branch out, because the food is never frozen, it is fresh and it is as close to authentic as you will find anywhere close by.
