Garibaldi's Cafe - Crispy Diamond Scored Flounder

So, after moving to GA recently, we decided to go back for my birthday. We enjoyed the atmosphere of the old Italian look of this place. We could not have asked for a better table location as we were all the way in the back and tucked away in the corner, very private and romantic. The only issue is the circular coach seating was worn out, and I knew with bad back I might in for an uncomfortable night. The service itself was professional, but not very friendly. While most staff members seemed to smile and appeared to be enjoying themselves, our waiter acted like he did not want to be there. As for the food, it just did not measure up to the past, as there was 1 great dish, 1 OK dish, 1 not so good and 1 just bad. We started out strong with Denver Lamb Ribs with a sweet Ginger soy sauce glaze. Easily the best rib dish we ever had. We debated on our next dish between the Lobster Cocktail or Stone Crab Claw and unfortunately went for the Crab as it had years since we had some. We both agreed the Crab meat did not seem fresh as it was mushy and the sauce lacked the tang of a traditional Stone Crab sauce. We both ordered the Crispy Scored Flounder as that is the reason we came here in the 1st place. The dish is a Flounder, that is scored on both sides into easy chunks to eat, with and Apricot Shallot Sauce. Overall, it was an OK dish, but not as good as either of us remembered as it could have used more sauce on top of the fish. We finished up with a poorly executed Bourbon Pecan pie. This dish looked (see picture) and tasted not much different than a Little Debbie pie you buy in boxes of 10 at the grocery store. This small round piece of pie had zero Bourbon sauce or flavor whatsoever. The dish seemed so out of place both looking and tasting, that I went to see what others posted on yelp, and what we were served didn't even come close to previous dinners experiences. Not a great way to end my birthday dinner.

The restaurant is beautiful but we'd seen a musician up on the rooftop and had decided we wanted to eat up there. The rooftop is elegant and I cannot express how happy I was we walked up there. We had excellent service, however, the place was pretty empty so we didn't have to fight for our server's attention. It's actually criminal that the place was not packed to the gills. I had the stiletto, a pear flavored cocktail, it was ok. The real star here was the food. I got the yellow coconut curry and I am so pleased with it. Past that, I tried all the food my family got as well, and there wasn't a weak dish in the group. My wife's shrimp roll was on point with some of the best lobster rolls I've had in the north east. The spicy mussels, the cauliflower, and the pasta were all delicious. The ragu sauce is one of the best meat sauces I've tried and the pasta was so perfectly al dente that I said I'd be surprised if one of the chefs wasn't from Italy. We topped it off with the spice cake which was just perfect. Please come and eat here, if you have even an ounce of joy for food I can't see you being disappointed.

The mussels were perfectly prepared and the bread soaked up the sauce without becoming soggy. The Caesar salad was crunchy and garlicky just how I like it. Thankfully, there were two. Bed is comfortable. Very very dog friendly haha! You can bring your pet for no charge which was awesome. If you don't like dog, please consider to go elsewhere as i have seen some peoples making faces when dogs bark. Dogs do bark and you need to know that. Thankfully, were not mine or these people would have heard my voice. One thing is the restaurant is really low on staff and had to wait a long time for breakfast. They forgot the coffee and i was really on the edge. I am a coffee not morning person so... but otherwise this is one of my hotel for the dog thing . I will definitely come back.

The corporate ownership of this hotel is awful…read more The room that I reserved was not available when I checked in and I had to share a bed with someone I did not want to share a bed with. The person at the front desk seemed understanding, but powerless to help. My reservation clearly showed that I reserved a room with two queen beds. One of the reservations made by my family was two separate two day reservations (four consecutive days but made as two separate reservations). We clarified that we had the same room for the whole four day stay when we checked in. At an impressively inconvenient time midday of the third day our key card stopped working. The front desk explained that corporate required us to recheck in to the room at that time and this process took longer than seems necessary in 2026 (when our stuff was already in the room and we had done the same thing two days prior). This is clearly a low functioning hotel management system that creates unnecessary and unpleasant steps for its staff and guests. The rooms are fine but a bit dated, generally showing some wear, there were multiple old USB outlets but zero modern USB outlets, service in the restaurant is incredibly slow and the food is very uneven. It's hard to mess up pizza as bad as one we got. One of our servers was completely untrained, although very polite and sincerely trying their best. Staff are friendly and our interactions with the front desk and folks cleaning rooms were very pleasant. The morning coffee and afternoon wine and snacks in the lobby was nice. There are nice seating options in the lobby and in the interior courtyard as well. The location is great with very short walks to the river or the beautiful old downtown area. There is a lovely small park adjacent to the hotel and we enjoyed sitting on benches in the shade of elegant old oaks. Old Savannah is a gem and a highlight of our trip. The gym is tiny and worthless. Generally speaking the Kimpton Brice is overpriced for what you get. The most disappointing aspect of my experience was that the location is great and the human beings working on the premises are also great, but the experience was degraded by the folks at IHG or whatever corporate scam is hurting this hotel.

We choose Gerald's as we trust them. We dropped it off at night, so they could diagnose the issue. They called us and said after inspection it was a tire issue. We went ahead with the service as they recommended it. When they called us to pick it up, I asked if they were able to confirm if the issue was resolved. If not, we could have it further diagonsed and resolve the issue. They told me they do not drive the cars after installing tires. Odd as how would they be able to confirm if the issue was resolved? Continuing to trust them, we picked it up and our car. Unfortunately for us, we have two new tires and a car that still shakes.
