I had an appointment with Dr. Hassid requesting treatment for Chronic Sleep Apnea. I brought two…read moreovernight sleep lab reports and he wrote the Rx for the CPAP machine. Then his staff REFUSED to make just one quick phone call to Lincare to get the Rx filled. It took six phone calls on my part to eventually force the staff to do their job. My appointment was October 23rd and it was not until October 31st that the staff finally broke down and grudgingly agreed to do one four minute phone call to get the Durable Medical Equipment Rx filled. Dr. Eric Hassid's medical assistant Ladill is incompetent and lazy. She kept insisting I had to call Lincare to get the Rx filled and it was "not in her job description to do this". When I tried to explain to her that Durable Medical Equipment suppliers do NOT deal directly with patients she kept insisting "do it yourself". Basically, I was thrown under the bus. She has very poor communication skills and lacks "active listening skills". I spent one hour with Dr. Eric Hassid during my appointment. 50% of the session was regarding getting the CPAP machine for Chronic Sleep Apnea. The other 50% of the session was discussing 20 years of severe chronic pain I experience from when I was rear ended by a 10 ton UPS truck at 60 mph. Dr. Eric Hassid never bothered to even mention that Sutter Health has a chronic pain management support program and he did not bother to give me any semblance of a treatment plan for this medical condition. After my appointment ended, I picked up a brochure at the front desk which explained the variety of services this clinic offers. It was only by accident that I discovered Sutter Health DOES OFFER chronic pain management services. What Dr. Eric Hassid actually DID do was hand me a list of over $200 of vitamins/supplements he sells in the reception area of his office. Is he a vitamin/supplement pill salesman - or is he practicing medicine and providing patient care appropriate to his client's needs? His staff is incompetent, especially his medical assistant. Both Ladill and Sarah told me on the phone "it is not my job description to make one four minute phone call to get your Durable Medical Equipment prescription filled, do it yourself". This is in direct violation of the well established protocol for obtaining Durable Medical Equipment. Optigen, Apria, Lincare DO NOT EVER deal directly with patients - any more than a patient could walk into a pharmacy and ask for Rx medication without FIRST the doctor creating a prescription. I was "thrown under the bus" by this clinic. My primary care doctor at Dignity Health left his job a few months ago, and moved out of town. I was going to enroll with Sutter Health for a brand new primary care doctor but NO WAY would I do that, nor would I ever go back to this clinic for follow up care. It functions as a vitamin pill/supplement retail store NOT patient care. I was "thrown under the bus". Badly done! I was Dr. Eric Hassid's patient when he had his own clinic in Davis, back around 2006. It was not Sutter Health - and there was more cohesion in treatment plans and the staff was excellent at the old Davis clinic. I think Sutter Health is a "Hot Mess" with inept, substandard lack of rudimentary communication skills, poorly trained staff who lack a work ethic and do not want to lift a finger to help patients. None of the staff at this clinic during my first visit told me there was a Patient Portal online that I needed to register in. I only discovered this on my own efforts. Nobody gave me the It should NOT have taken SIX phone calls over the course over ten days to have a very simple task performed by the staff of this office.

So many Doctors now a days prescribe drugs that they do not have adequate knowledge of, Dr Hassid is more thoughtful re this than I have have found other Doctors to be. I am the mother of an adult son who is autistic with other issues, and should be followed/monitored…read moreby specialists. Since we moved to Sac. County, it has been very difficult for us to find appropriate health care for him with his limited insurance. His PCP is a nurse practitioner(NP) and she recently gave my son a referral to Dr. Burgerman, a neurologist/surgeon, who treats seizure disorders. I was so happy to get a specialist for my son's problem that I failed to check him out, but was quickly aware that this man had a God complex. I was naturally upset during the first visit because it was my child that was possibly getting the disagnosis of frontal lobe seizures, but each time I tried to ask a question, I was rudely cut off. Dr. Burgerman also allowed his Nursing Assistant to attend the interview, and her constant interruptions were not only a distraction, they wrre outright rude at times, but Dr. Burgerman allowed this to continue & I wondered if she was his wife. I asked about the possible conflict in a med. my son was already on and three he had written down for him to start on, when his NP jumped up from her seat and informed me that they ONLY TREAT SEIZURES! Being a lay person, I had no idea what was meant by this display and tried to inquire, but Linda, the NP, just kept cutting me off until Dr. Burgerman stepped in and said, "I treat seizures! I do not prescribe psychiatric drugs. If you are asking if I took the drug your son takes into consideration before prescribing the antiseizure medication, then yes I did. That drug also lowers his threshold for seizures and if you desire to keep him on it, you'll have to retain a psychiatrist to prescribe it." Wouldn't it have been nice if he had just said that in the first place? How would I know any of that?? I was so put off by this man and his so-called NP?,"Whatever?," any trust or hope that I may have had in him being able to help my son, went right out the window. My son was in a wheelchair and when he needed to use the bathroom, which was just next door to our room, Dr. Burgerman told me he could not use it, as it was for staff only. We were then told to go down the hall, through a pediatric waiting room of another doctor's practice, out his door, down another hall and to the left, then down yet one more hall to get to a bathroom. Once there, we found no handicapped or unisex facility, like the one next to Burgerman's interview room, and I had to take my grown, 37 yr old son, into the ladies bathroom to assist him. Surely Dr. Burgerman, as well as the other staff there, have had to attend Dr. appoints for themselves, and in other facilities where they shared restooms with other patients... Did they think their chances of catching autism from a toilet seat was any greater in their building then anyone elses??? It just placed a lot more emotional stress on the both of us, and I was wondering what kind of man this doctor was. Later on, when I called his office to inquire if my son could have some medication for his migraine, I was told by Burgerman's receptionist, that he was in still in surgery and could not be disturbed.. I asked his recpeptionist to please give him a msg when he was out.. The recept. then told me to get the meds from my son's PCP... so I reminded her that his PCP was a Nurse Practitioner, and referred my us to Burgerman in the first place because she said that his problems were beyond the scope of her expertise! A back and forth ensued, in which this staff person began to badger me about why I couldn't find a doctor? If I had called every doctor in the phone book? And did I expect her to find my son a doctor? ( All the while, my son was crying and screaming in the background that his head hurt.. and could I help him?) I was plenty rattled by now, almost feeling as if I had stepped into the Twilight Zone with this witch, so I said, "Ma'am, did I call you and ask you to find us a doctor, or did I ask you to pass a msg to Dr. Burgerman that my son needs medication?" And BAM!, She slammed the phone down and hung up on me! Did these people work with Dr. Burgerman, so long that they felt this kind of behavior toward a patient or client was somehow justified or acceptable? At 7:30 that evening, Dr. Burgerman phoned me and asked me why I had screamed at his staff person. There is no way that I even raised my voice to her, but there was no explaining to him what happened either. He just unloaded on me, and told me that if I wanted medicine for my son, I could take him to the E.R. and maybe some doctor there would prescribe it for him. He also said, "No wonder you can't find a doctor for your son!" I am still in shock. This man has no empathy, care or concern for his patients in my estimation.. and my son will not go back to him, especially after I pulled up a couple of patient reviews and saw that I was not an isolated incident. Good luck!

She shows a clear lack of empathy for her patients and a poor ability to explain treatment plans. If you ask for an explanation or question her care plans for clarity she will speak down to you or drop you as a patient. I speak from experience. I asked for clarification as to why I needed labs drawn in relation to my medications and she immediately became offended and started talking down to me. Regardless of receiving no clear indication as to why I needed the labs drawn, I went anyway because she is the expert and I trusted her opinion. Upon trying to schedule my next appointment I was told that I was being dropped as a patient because I was not compliant with her plan of care and was no longer able to be referred to any Sutter Facilities. She is well known to have a bad reputation within the Sutter system but they choose to ignore it. Avoid at all costs.
