Best part of the service was Louise. She was awesome to chat with. The first guy Brian showed up - assessed the project and it appeared like he knew what I needed done. But then a few days later asked me to send pics of what needed to be done. I thought that was a bit odd. On the day of service- Brian didn't show just 2 guys with limited English. Service was poor-- unfortunately --especially when the two guys that who doing the repairs showed me the fence was crooked and they were gonna repair it crooked because they had no choice but to???. They did ask me and I had no clue. They were just basically saying this is all we can do. I said do what you need too. For the price I paid. I expected better tbh. We had Kim's Iron Works put some hand rails on our steps front and back. We've been very pleased with their work having also had two gates installed at our house and they look great. We have a gate on our main driveway and a gate on our secondary driveway. One of the gates was installed over ten years ago and still looks great. I really hate writing bad reviews but sometimes people's behavior towards paying customers should be noted. I spoke to Brian Min to come out and give estimate for installing three new type hinges on three of my existing gates and metalize/paint. He quoted me about $4k and I don't argue with the price since he seemed like he knew what he's was talking about. He said it would take a few weeks and I agreed to that as well. I had told him I'm remodeling my house and am going to need a lot more iron work done after he finishes this job. I showed him the other work that I will need which includes a entire new stair rail and patio railing and he said he could do all that work as well. I'm guessing all the new work would be about a $30k job. Keep in mind I didn't argue with him about the price on refurbishing my artistic gates Once his workers came to reinstall my new gates the locks didn't work anymore I couldn't get the keys in. I actually tried helping his workers unclog the key holes with wd40 and took apart and put back in. No luck in fixing. They didn't cover the keyholes when they sandblasted the gates and got grit in the keyholes. I called Brian and his immediate response was it was my fault since his guys are professionals and they wouldn't do something like that. I told him his workers saw all the grit coming out and he kept insisting it wasn't their fault. I told him him I'm going to call a locksmith to come the next day to redo my locks and his response was he will pay half of the cost without even knowing how little it maybe. Now mind you I told him he had more work coming from me but this was his attitude. I laughed at him and told him I don't need his money and just won't use him again. He kept trying to argue I. The phone and begged for me to call him after I get the locks fixed. Why in the hell would I waste my time calling him when he was more worried about the cost of fixing locks and not standing by his work. I DONT get peoples mindset. Keep a good paying customer for a large job or take the time to investigate and make things right over a trivial manner. I got the locks fixed the following week for $300 and the locksmith said the locks were completely jammed with grit. Stay away from them if you don't like dealing with penny pinchers and bad customer service. Btw I'm attaching some pictures of their "Professional Work" that Brian claimed. As you can see this is how they protected the locks and key holes. read more

I called in to set an appointment and was told to meet in person. I drove out there and they were closed! All gates locked and they had a neglected German Shepard outside in 96 degree weather with no access to food or water! Poor baby! This place has a fence within the fence! We had corrosion with a small break in our backyard wrought iron fence, which is about 75 ft long. Mike came out to do a free estimate over the weekend, even though he wasn't feeling well after receiving his COVID-19 vaccine. Mike knows his stuff. He was thorough and took the time to draw out a diagram of what needed be done. He gave us a very reasonable written estimate on the spot, describing all the steps he'd take to restore the fence to a "like new" condition. I needed a gate installed John gave me an estimate I asked how far out John said 2 weeks I had to call him back the next day and ask if they could install the gate in 5 days as I will have the city out to give a permit (more like an emergency on my part) John did some checking and said yes we could do that. The team arrived at 9 am the following Wed like John said and installed the gate and fence. The workers are nice and they showed me the gate and we tested it to make sure is closed properly. Great experience. I saw that Kim Ironworks was at a neighbors working on their fence. I looked them up on yelp and went with the majority of positive yelp reviews as I had never used this company before. Brian was out for an estimate, made a diagram of the work entailed which included the repair of a two-door gate, replacement of section in our wrought iron fence and fixing a small section of the fence as well. The repair was completed before the two week window of time they gave to come back out. Two men came out in the early afternoon, did a great job, they cleaned all areas of work and were done by the end of the day. We feel they save us from the expense of a new gate and we are very pleased. read more

Kim Iron Works doesn't stand behind their work. They say on the invoice that they don't guarantee paint. That's because their paint won't even last one rainy season. EDITED July 14 2017 The reason their paint doesn't last is that they don't prime the metal before painting - so figure out how much a repaint every 3 years is going to cost before you accept their bid. Photo added to show no primer. END EDIT EDITED August 29 2017 I had bids from 3 companies to fix KIM IRON WORKS rapidly disintegrating fence. Fence co #1 said they weren't interested in fixing other companies' "messed up" work (I'm making this safe for work). Another said it'd be cheaper to tear it down and replace it. A third company recommended a complete re-paint starting with a 2-stage epoxy primer - at a cost of 40% of what KIM IRON WORKS charged me originally. So yeahh - accept KIM IRON WORKS' low-ball bid and calculate you'll need to spend an additional 40% after the 1st rains. BTW - the paint Co I hired is awesome, If you're interested just look at my reviews. END EDIT I posted pix - but they'll take them down. Installed March 2016, after 1 rainy season, there is rust at almost every knuckle and every weld. These complaints are almost identical to those of Jerome from 2014. There were problems from the get go. Salesman was Mike - he no longer works there - fired according to their operations guy, Moreno, who tried to blame him for the poor quality of the work: Installation delayed - paint hadn't dried. Measurements incorrect - one day install took 2 because they had to cut and weld pieces to fit. Paint was not hardened by the time they installed. Within 2 weeks there was rust!!! They returned with an installer and a teenager who seemed like he was an owner's relative. They spent a day spot priming & painting - but since they didn't grind down to bare metal, the rust returned. When I asked them to fix their shoddy work after the rainy season ended, Moreno told me that his boss - to whom I was never allowed to speak - wouldn't allow him to do more than touch ups, and that they didn't offer a maintenance service - all I'm looking for is what they agreed to in the contract. They sent 2 workers who took one look at the fence and told me it was at least a day's work in prep and prime, then come back to re-paint. They called Moreno who told them to spend 2 hours max. Since they couldn't do anything meaningful in 2 hours, I sent them away and called Moreno who told me the 2 hours was all they were prepared to do. The workers all understood that the paint was improperly applied - even Moreno agreed that it wasn't up to their usual quality - but management obviously thinks bad work is a good advertisement. read more

We've had Kim Iron Works do two jobs for us. The fact that I had them cone back years later for a second job tells you that I think they're top-notch. First job was years ago, when we first moved to Brea - the stair railing was dangerous. So they measured, fabricated, then came back and installed it. Looks great, nice and solid. Years later we needed a new gate - and after yesterday's installation I know I'm never going to use anyone else for any metal work on my property. Gate is gorgeous, installed well, and done a bit early. Prices are reasonable and they're very nice! Happy to use local contractors, especially when they do an awesome job. read more

Kim's Iron Works! I cut down a few trees and cleared shrubs and junk on the side of my home. After I leveled the area, I found that I had a whopping 16x40 foot area that I could put up a rig and make a small park-like area. I wanted to extend the existing iron fence. I ended up receiving 3 quotes and two no-show I had made appointments with. Randy came out right on time. Not only was his quote $600 cheaper than the lowest bid, it was $2,000 lower than the highest bid. Guess what? It even came with extras and better installation options including a pretty sweet looking gate. Part of the fence sits on a slope...very difficult area. The guys showed up on time and managed to hit every single detail and left with a job well done. It turned out better than I had imagined. The next day after the installation, I realized they had fixed an area of older fence on the back side of the yard. What great folks! Don't waste your time contacting this buisness. John, the owner, give you the runaround. Contacted him and set up an appointment for a Friday morning. To install a 20 foot metal gate at my residence. Someone attempted to break into my residence thru the back gate earlier that week, so building this metal/secure gate was priority. John showed up Friday morning as promised. He took his measurements and gave me lead times. He explained he would email me various quotes with various designs by end of day so I agreed. By end of Friday I heard nothing from him. Figured he was a busy man. Come Monday I called the buisness to follow up and spoke to him. He sounded a bit off and told me to give him till end of day and would email me my quotes. I was in a bit of a time pressure because I wanted to get this built quickly to deter whoever tried to break in. A couple hours later he reached out and said he would not be helping me out at all. No quotes. No explanation. This is beyond subpar customer service. I wouldn't recommend this buisness to anyone. Go somewhere else for your metal gate needs. read more

Wow, smooth sailing from start to finish. My wife and I walked into Kim Iron Works on a Saturday afternoon looking to have a custom made wrought iron gate made for our back yard. We were met by Brian who gave us all the time we needed to narrow down our choice from many many designs. Brian then proceeded to design our gate for us and we picked from a few options (decorative swirl, springs keys on top, etc.) and color. He priced it out, and we were pleasantly surprised with that. We went forward, gave a deposit and said goodbye. A few weeks later, Brian called and said that the gate was ready to be installed. We set a day for the installation and the installers actually arrived a little early. They installed the gate, did a little touch up with the paint where drilling and grinding occurred, and left the extra paint in case we needed it in the future. I wholly recommend Kim Iron Works and will not hesitate to use them again if I ever need a service such as theirs again. read more

They were hired to work on our wrought iron fence. We had just finished doing a lot of landscaping and A LOT of hardscaping. Completely redid our driveway, walkway, and throughout. The pavers were just finished days ago. So why would they come to our home, and park their truck on the just finished pavers. And leak onto the pavers? And then walk on the pavers with paint stained work boots. IDIOTS! Their owner should be ashamed of the two man crew they sent out to our home. I'm giving them a 1 star due to the rudeness of their employee. The scheduling was easy and the project manager, Mike Kwak called to tell me that he was heading over in 20 minutes. Once Mike was in my house he was somewhat rude, aloof and shot down all my ideas, "That won't look right" was his answer. I then asked for pictures of some iron work and he said that he didn't bring any. What? You come to an estimate unprepared? He then said, "Pray that I do have some in my car?" I guess the Lord answered his prayer because he did have one book. I was thinking about his estimate when he began to rush, "Okay? Okay?" I then repeated, "okay" and he jumped up, left his card and took off. We have been customers for over 30 years and we told him that. The look on his face could have cared less. Wow!
