This is a disappointing ice cream store. You walk in and are greeted by lots of festivity and a warm environment. You are then greeted with the absolute horror of prices. 20 bucks for half a pound of marshmallows, 30 for shredded chocolate! 8 bucks for a hot fudge sundae the size of your fist and what tasted like unbranded ice cream. Service was not helpful- was not even greeted or helped upon entering. Asked some questions and they all shrugged at us. If not for the theme of the place, i would give 1 star. My mom and I were in town this past week for a wedding. We toured the downtown area and had to check out one of the OG kilwins. It's so cute inside! I got some chocolate covered dried cherries because, duh, Michigan and some other little things. Definitely a cute place to stop in Big Rapids. read more

The worst most overpriced store in BR. They sell tons of foreign made cheap trinkets. And the family who owns this openly support communism. They try to hide behind their church to look and seem like good people, but they're definitely horrible people who have done many horrible things in their crooked lives. read more

On a biking overnite, we stopped at The Old Pioneer Store, in Big Rapids, Mi for an ice cream cone; selection was good and service was good; the serving size was good for the price and the ice cream was tasty. There were many choices of chocolates and other tasty treats within the store. There was community seating outside on the street. read more

If you are a stranger to Big Rapids Michigan and don't want to be...visit the Old Pioneer and Emporium...the owners Carleen and Brian Rose never meet a stranger...and are quite willing to give you history...inform you on sites to see...other businesses to visit and share their knowledge of living in this university town...home of Ferris State...all of their lives. My grand daughter and I stopped in for a quick ice cream and spent more than an hour "chatting"...my sweet little princess was treated by Carleen to her favorite chocolate ice cream...while I had to have a waffle cone filled with Pecan Praline and Butter Pecan...so good! Wandering through the store... the smells of fragrant candles and Christmas year round...brings you back to a time of nostalgia that not so long ago you would be expecting a wood or coal stove burning in the back...crystal glistened...greeting cards...more than I can relay...My princess walked out with an old fashioned lollipop... So disappointing. We spent nearly $100 on fudge and chocolates for gifts and when we got home and opened one of the fudge boxes it was hard and crumbly. We live too far to take it back but I do not recommend this place if you want fresh fudge. read more

Very cute store. When you walk in you are greeted by fudge and ice cream!!! Continue on to a beautiful gift shop with lots of Michigan themed items. The owners are super friendly and can help you with anything you need to know about the area. Great for buying gifts and getting dessert, so good!!! read more

The pumpkin pie Ice cream is amazing! The fruit slushee is fantastic! They have a cute little shop attached to the store where they sell Michigan items. The ladies in the store are so sweet and friendly!! I highly recommend stopping in!!! read more

Such a cute place. We always eat at one of the yummy places across the street and then head over for fudge or ice cream. The staff are always super friendly and patient as we take forever to pick out something new we want. My daughter always asks to go when we come up to visit the cabin and head into "town". Oh...lots of sugar free stuff for grandpa too. read more

We have a Kilwin's near my hometown, so I've been to Kilwin's before. I just had to write a review as the store is very cute. Larger than you expect with candles & decor items in the back for purchase. The staff is what blew me away. The two girls working were extremely friendly, but not in that fake "this is my job, so I'll pretend to like you" type of way. Would definitely go back for one of the giant cookies they had for sale by "The Muffin Mom". Yum! read more

I called months before my daughters 4th birthday and and asked, " if I needed to pre order cake batter ice cream so, I could have it for her birthday party. I was told no, it's always in stock". Four days before the party I called and they said " cake batter won't be in till after Sunday". So, my kid won't have her favorite ice cream on her birthday, this is a big deal for a four year old. I called the river town mall location and was told if I want cake batter I need to go to holland, I am very let down by this. read more

As you enter the ice cream shoppe, you are greeted with friendly welcomes and the smell is delicious! Warm fudge and waffle cones blend together for an enticing smell you don't want to end! They quickly offer you some samples of whatever they have available, today was pecan fudge. Super soft and just the right texture, not too sweet but just enough to get you wanting more! They have a large selection of ice cream for scooping and multiple toppings to choose from! They also offer packaged sweets for you to take home with you, such as their chocolate or truffle boxes, salt water taffy, espresso beans, caramel corn, and everything else you can think of! When you think of the old school ice cream parlors, this fits the bill! I will definitely be back to try every single one of their ice cream flavors!! read more
