My partner and I named our Australian Shepherd puppy, Koa, after the wood, and the meaning "brave",…read moreso I knew when we visited Kauai we had to get a piece of Koa jewelry. We came to the Koa store on the second to last day of our trip, after searching the rest of the island for the perfect koa tungsten ring. The Koa Store had half sizes in their rings, which made for a better fit, and were very reasonably priced. Our $30 rings were $70-270 in other spots on the island, and the rings at the Koa store were much nicer and higher in quality. They had a variety of different items, and our cousins got some nice Koa bangles that we couldn't find anywhere else on the island. The lady working at the shop was very nice and helpful, and explained the materials to us. It's too bad they don't ship to the mainland, because I'd be a repeat, and frequent customer. Check out the Koa Store before settling on any other Koa products.

We've passed by this shop over a few dozen times over the years & decided to give it a go. The items are handmade from the Koa tree that is found in Hawaii. There are pens, jewelry, bags/purses, wallets, key chains, cutlery, ornaments, vases, kitchen items & other curious artwork displayed for sale. Candace was manning the shop & she was so friendly & welcoming. She even suggested a lady who might be able to create what we're looking for. This lady works from home & has a website (Tropical Isle Music). I love to support local businesses & Candace was so charming, I bought a couple of Aloha Hula girl ornaments & a pineapple (see photo) ornament. There's a few spaces for parking that it shares with Mankoa & a granola shack. It was lovely speaking with Candace, who I learned is actually half Filipino & half Japanese, born & raised in Kaua'i. Her grandfather was one of the first Filipinos who arrived from the Philippines to work in the plantations in Hawaii. It's always interesting to learn about people & their heritage. I'm very pleased with the experience & my purchases at this shop

Art House Gallery - The piece of glass we bought, although I'm sad to see that Yelp says that Art House has closed.

It's run by a local artist Juile Berg, her painting and art work are inspired by the beauty of Hawaii and her travels around the world. You can find jewelry along with one of a kind unique art pieces! Best part is that she ships all around the world! Tip: visit the Koloa Shave Ice shop right around the corner if you have time!

This gallery has been open in this historic plantation building for about 7 years. I looked…read morethrough it shortly after it opened, but didn't review it at the time, because it had an unfinished look, a perception that may have been augmented by my fondness for its predecessor. I came in today and was greeted warmly by the owner, Julie. The gallery's collection has grown beautifully over the past 7 years. There are ceramic pieces w/ lace and other textures on them. There is a stunning surfboard decorated w/ an intricate mosaic of different sized and shaped glass beads and tiles. So amazing. I understand there are a couple of surfboard showers and wonder if the artist is the same one whose work I admired at the little gallery by the cafe in Kalaheo when we were there last year. There are paintings and photographs. The paintings, while different from one artist to the next, share a textural interest that I found quite appealing. Julie is one of the artists exhibited and her work is beautiful. There will be an opening party for an exhibit of photography by Daniel Finchum this Saturday, September 24 from 6-9. His photographs are gorgeous, particularly his photographs of Hawaiian children. As usual, what called to me turned out to be art glass by Daniel Moe, although I took it at first for ceramic. Inspired by the Kilauea volcano on the Big Island where he lives, the glass is dark, w/ red lava-like accents. If you look at the photos posted by the gallery above you can see something similar and you can see why it drew me and why I'm searching my mind for a surface that might hold it. There was no turned wood, which was one of the things I loved about the previous gallery. I discussed this w/ Julie, who told me it was becoming increasingly difficult to get turned wood, for a variety of reasons. The gallery is elegant and attractive w/o it, but it's always nice to have more to look at. Addendum: As you might expect, we bought the piece of art glass. It's just not the kind of thing we could pass up.
