I very rarely give a one-star rating but this was richly deserved. First things first. At an outside table, the drinking glasses were placed rim-side down. I don't care how clean you think the tables are, an outdoor table is not sanitary enough for that. There was no bread served either pre-meal or with the meal which is not an absolute must but certainly a nice thing at a predominantly Italian restaurant. We got the chicken parmesan and lasagna, two of the safest things on which you should be able to gauge the quality of a restaurant's abilities. Both were served lukewarm (barely above room temperature) with a barely melted slab of mozzarella plopped on top. The chicken in the parmesan was burnt; not overdone, burnt. It also had some gristly, cartilage bits. The lasagna had so little meat it could have passed for vegetarian. The service was pretty bad as well. I was stung by a bee (my fault for not moving when I noticed an active bee hive near our table) and when my wife went to ask the waiter to help us move tables she practically had to tap him on the shoulder as he was staring intently at his phone and didn't notice her approaching. The food was so bad we opted not to take home the pretty large portions we chose not to eat because they were so bad. Just a terrible experience on every level.

There are tons of options for gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, and plant-based diets, along with a great selection of snacks, specialty products, supplements, fresh foods, and local goods. Within the last couple of years, I also started ordering more frequently from the café, and I can't believe it took me so long! I'm a huge fan of their wraps. They have gluten-free tortillas and bread. They somehow make wraps with relatively simple ingredients taste unbelievably fresh, flavorful, and savory. I've ordered the same wraps at both Clinton and Flemington and they taste practically identical, which says a lot about how consistent the café is between locations. My personal favorite is the Free Bird on a gluten-free tortilla. It's vegan and gluten-free with tofu salad and a savory mustard, and it blew my expectations away. I also love the sauces and dressings they use in the café. I discovered many (if not all) of them are made in-house and are even available bottled to take home. The house-made vegan honey mustard is especially delicious and worth trying. For drinks at the café, I'm a big fan of the Strawberry Fields protein smoothie and the So Kal juice. I've also done their two-day juice cleanse, which includes 12 fresh juices that you can order ahead and pick up. Even the soups; one was supposed to be red lentils but looked mostly yellow lentil and again desperately needed salt for one and would have been improved with additional seasonings. Whoever made the manhattan clam chowder got the recipe correct. It was the only thing that was tasty without needing alteration. The owner is nice and after my first poor review offered to make me a replacement but I didn't take him up on the offer. If they only get it right while someone is watching over their shoulder, what's the point. It is NOT a cheap lunch so to be disappointed is a real bummer. Better to stick with the raw seafood items or some prepackaged items (hummus & great flatbreads).

We snagged some caviar as well, made for a perfect picnic at our hotel. Everything is impeccably fresh, their prepared seafood salads are next level. Not only do they have an incredible array of fresh fish, but their shelves are also stocked with a thoughtful selection of dried goods, sauces, spices, and specialty items. As I entered the shop, I noticed some fresh apple cider and freshly made pies (as well as fruit, fruits and vegetables, and preserves.) I got some apple cider and a peach pie to go!! The staff was very, very delightful engaging. Very welcoming. I enjoy drinking my ice cold apple cider whilst driving home. Very delicious and refreshing. I would definitely come back! I've passed by this cute flower/plant/farmer's stand over the years so our stop today was a long…read moretime coming. After checking out the plants and garden items outdoors, we decided to go inside to look at the produce and merchandise located in the shop. My husband loves cherries, and I thought we might purchase one of the two remaining pints that was all they had. Unfortunately I saw that several cherries were moldy on the top of both pints. I pointed it out to the lady working there, who said that she just sorted them that morning and didn't notice any problems. I then walked over to the tomatoes, a favorite of mine, and picked up several which was also moldy on the stems!! Obviously they are still trying to sell older fruits and vegetables and didn't have the turnover when fresh. The only thing I knew couldn't spoil was the flavored honey sticks, and I purchased three for a dollar. Quite a disappointment and we won't visit them again.
