    Ice cream

A nice local place for general farm items. In this visit, we had ice cream. Over a dozen options of creamy delights. The unique factor of Kilby is the outdoor playground. For parents like myself, it sure helps in making a decision for where to go.

I came across a post in a local Facebook group about exceptional playgrounds. One member mentioned Kilby cream and since I had been looking for a petting zoo to take my almost 3-year-old son, I jumped on the opportunity and took him for a couple of hours to kill some time. What an exceptional place! I loved how secure and clean the playground area was. There was a wide open field for him to get his abundant amounts of energy out and just freely run and pet some animals along the way! We stopped inside for some ice cream, but were having way too much fun so we opted to play some more instead and come back next week to try the ice cream! This is probably my most favorite adventure I have taken my son on in the area since we've been staying locally! Can't wait to return!

Kilby Cream is family-owned and has been around since '05. Even though the family has been dairying for over a century, an ice cream shop was was pursued due to obtaining additional income for the family. The hubs and I stopped by on our way home, and we ordered the following: a cup of Strawberry ice cream (had a light strawberry taste to it; the hubs enjoyed it) and a cup of Ravens Berry (a seasonal flavor, this was a black raspberry ice cream with blueberries and dark chocolate swirl; the flavor was definitely a concentrated raspberry taste, but I was a little disappointed to find a bunch of ice crystals throughout the ice cream). Service was quick and efficient, and there were some tables inside to enjoy your frozen treat. They also sell milk, butter, eggs, beef, cheeses, breads, sausages, and other local items such a maple syrup and Angus beef. Just outside of Kilby Cream, there's also a 'mobile' food truck that sells some fusion hot eats. There's limited parking on their gravel driveway. +family-owned dairy farm +limited parking on gravel drively

Wow... I read May's review and thought what is she/he talking about. I don't go to an ice cream place for nutritional information. I go there for a good tasting ice cream and know it is fattening! The taste was awesome and we left with some Salted Butter, Chocolate and Whole milk as a topper for the house. As for the Cows and not being able to see them...You certainly can by walking down there as we did, but to be honest it is stinky. Why would you want the Cows right where you are serving ice cream and food? They do have a petting zoo right there where you can see baby cows, goats, etc... which is way more cool. Bring your kids as their were tons there that day and they have an awesome playground! We will be back again and hopefully the tree-huggers doing reviews aren't around. LOL

I was checking the longitudes of both places, and the Easton restaurant was slightly east of this Rising Sun coffee shop. As it turns out and amazing coincidence, I just wrote my 2 most eastern Yelp reviews in the state of MD. Never had one further east of these locations in MD like in Elkton, Ocean City, Salisbury, etc. I visited Rise N Grind Cafe on a Friday in September 2022. I was going up to Newark, DE to visit my parents for a night at a hotel for a mushroom festival in Kennett Township on that Saturday. I managed to get a parallel parking right in front of the store in the small downtown Rising Sun. I wifi at this cute coffee shop as I had some work on that Friday. I had a delicious coffee, and I think a tuna salad sandwich, which was delicious. The staff was friendly too, and they were efficient. I comfortably got my work done. Unfortunately, I didn't take a pic of my food, but I took pics of other aspects of the cafe itself. If I ever end up back in Rising Sun, I'd come back here!

Be warned their portions are very generous, I usually get a small if I want a rather large amount of ice cream, and even the kids size is very generous! They also offer pints and quarts to go, plus a selection of cheeses. The staff is also very kind every time. I recently discovered there's a walking trail that leads to the farm behind the creamery. There are benches and seating along the way, making it a great spot to hang out. Just a heads up: most of the outdoor seating is currently under construction as they expand the area, but it looks like it'll be even better once it's finished.

Great selection of flavors, absolutely delicious and perfectly creamy true ice cream. It was nice enough to sit outside at a picnic table which always makes it more fun. Though the decision was tough, today I went with a scoop of 1923 which is French vanilla ice cream with chocolate chunks and a salted caramel swirl. Sooooo many great sounding flavors! Though my usual go-to flavor is their classic Cookies & Cream, I need to go back soon to try the Holy Fluffernutter!! In addition to many freshly scooped ice cream options, they also sell ice cream by the pint or half gallon, and they have other ice cream treats, artisan cheeses, and some fun merch. They have plenty of parking, as it sits next to the Fred Rust Ice Arena. You're likely to find long lines as we get further into the warm weather seasons, but we always find it worth the wait when that happens.
