As one negative review mentioned, it is set up for kids under age 8 or so, maybe even younger than that. But without a lot of older kids dominating the landscape, the younger kids are free to play. I think it's a positive thing, that it's so centered on the younger kids! I especially appreciate that it is as quiet as possible--no blaring noise from loudspeakers going on, just the noise of children happily playing. I also appreciate that it's not commercialized with lots of Disney characters or other kids' celebrities. Their castle is whatever the child wants it to be--not just a Disney castle. Overall a great place for little ones when it's too hot, windy or cold to go to a park.

There are several different sections on people history from the Native Americans through the founding of Idaho up to a few decades ago. There's a section with a darkened street on the first level with about 9 businesses from over a century ago making you immersed back in time. Yes, there are a handful of interactive areas for kids ranging from "shoot the mammoth" to a separate play area in a section that looks as if you'd lived 100 years ago.

Drove almost 4 hours to get there and then another 3+ hours to Boise to visit friends and flew home from there. Was it worth it? Well, we actually had a really great time! There was enough to keep us interested for a couple hours. Typical museum displays were supported by videos, some talking potatoes, even a cute Virtual Reality Tractor and some video games. After we went through the exhibits, we ended at the cafe and got a baked potato and some fries. You can have anything you want on them, so we got chili and cheese, sour cream, and bacon. The only sad part was that they were out of gnocchi. Lots of parking and there are some shops in the area. So, yes, we're really glad we went and recommend it if you're in the area.

Well, not this time! All jokes aside, this was a fun little wayside distraction, tucked away "in the back" of Blackfoot, but worth it for the kitsch and novelty of the whole thing. Our kids certainly loved it, particularly the potato family projection in the "basement" that narrates the harvesting and storing of potatoes; our three year old couldn't stop staring and laughing! In additions to displays, videos and dioramas detailing every potato fact you might ever want to know (and more), there's also a quaint little café at the back purveying all manner of potato products, from fries and other fried things, to the good ol' Irish Sundae (a baked 'tater dressed just how you like it), so you can get your carb load for the day in whatever form you desire! Admission is cheap (a few bucks per person), and a great way to kill some time, or break up the monotony of a road trip.

They have a nice collection of wildlife art with a focus on the American West along with other representations and very interesting graphics that speak to the history behind the works. They offer military and other discounts on their entrance fee The gift shop area includes information on local, current mining operations as well as merch. This is an outdoor museum so dress for the weather. If you want to take the under ground tour be sure you are wearing closed toed shoes. (Crocs not included, I don't know why) They also have above ground tours. Part of the property is set up like a western town. Something that would grow up around a mine. Post office, apothecary, carpenter, blacksmith, etc, etc. All these buildings are set up with window displays but most are not open to the public. You just peer thru the windows. There is a memorial garden to miners. A mine yard with pieces of heavy equipment. The motorized lift, miners locker room, light room, information and equipment used in dry and wet boring, 3D representations of mines and more with information posted on the displays. You can walk up into the mine head if you are so inclined to see how the ore chutes operated. We spent about two hours here without realizing it. Very interesting museum. Staff are very personable, answered questions and suggested reading material for more on the subject. Very good, family friendly stop.
