We were on vacation in Charleston last month and it was raining. We did not bring a jacket for our toddler, and were happy to come across this store. They had several options and we were able to find one in stock that was elegant and easy for him to put on and take off as it had sturdy velcro connectors. We bought other things like shirts and pants that were of high quality materials and look and wear great. The lady that helped us was a retired preschool teacher and she was wonderful with out son, bearing herself between a teacher and grandmother personality. We went back again to take another look another day it was not raining. The prices are not cheap, but the quality is there and it is unreasonable to expect a high quality piece of childrens clothing at a basement bargain price. We went to a few other childrens stores, but they did not have the same kind of clothing and would recommend going here for something special or different. read more

This store is so cute but wow is the experience being inside so unpleasant. I've been in twice now, both times wearing my baby. The second time with my sister in tow. Both times the women have hawk-eye watched me and followed us through the tiny store. We were looking at an item and the women were so close and just kept watching or asking if we need anything. It gave off major "they think I'm going to steal something" or "they think I can't afford anything" vibes. We love a lot of the brands they carry but all of it can be found online or elsewhere for better prices. Just not worth your time. read more

I came in recently looking for a gift for my daughter. The clothes are cute albeit very expensive. The people working there were quick to tell me that toys for boys were on the left and toys for girls were on the right. All of the toys on the left were genius brand and comprised of building, science experiments, dinosaurs, and hands on learning. The toys on the right were all stuffed animals, mostly dolls and ponies. What kind of message does that send young kids? I'm disgusted by their old fashioned, outdated store and will not purchase anything from here. read more

Kids on King has a much smaller selection when compared to Under the Almond Trees (kids store also on King). The woman behind the counter just didn't seem like she wanted to be there, though the other woman working in front of the counter was friendly and smiled/greeted me when I walked in. read more

Came in with my husband and 7 month old baby for Mother's Day just to be watched by the workers, ignored everyone else in store and made an effort to up close follow us everywhere we went. Asked everyone else if they needed help except us, definitely won't be back and will not recommend this store to anyone. Such an awful experience for Mother's Day. I don't know why this place received 3 stars! I was treated like royalty. I was hot and pregnant and the owner quickly gave me a water and put me in front of the fan! She helped me pick out several outfits and was VERY accommodating! I brought my friends in there the next day and we had excellent customer service and loved the clothes selection! I am absolutely appalled at the rudeness of the owner of this store! I went in today looking for Sun Sandals and Natives. She told me that if she didn't have what I was looking for, that I must need to be shopping at Rack Room. Her tone was extremely condescending. This children's shop has beautiful clothes, but shopping here is less than pleasant. First of all, the customer service is terrible. The women are short and not at all accomodating. The prices are extremely unreasonable and be aware that they run sales on the website that they will not price match in the store! After my last attempt at shopping here I left completely offended and found the exact outfit I wanted to buy for $20 less elsewhere. I would not recommend this store to anyone. read more

My daughter and I, along with my sixteen-month old granddaughter visited this store on Sat,June 2 while in Charleston attending the Spoleto Festival. The store is nice...not grand. The clothes are cute...seen the same items on several internet sites for MUCH cheaper (I mean a bikini for a baby costing $89.00 is a little over the top...no matter how rich you are). The staff are the owners, I was expecting the woman who works there to break out a financial application or ask for my stock portfolio to be certain that I could AFFORD to be on her store. After spending a total of about two minutes looking at some outfits for my precious granddaughter and having the clerk standing behind me breathing down my back and wringing her hands as if I was going to get a Charleston kind of hot day sweat bead on her clothes I decided to move over to the shoes.I was excited and ready to buy two pair of these cute shoes for my grand-baby, when lurking from the back came a man who (the husband) had the same, Oh my God...can you afford to be in this store look on his face . I proceeded to ignore them and continued looking at the shoes. My granddaughter was getting fidgety partly due to a needed diaper change and partly due to the woman lurking over her as if she was going to steal an outfit and place in her diaper. Now...my daughter is a well known writer in Kentucky and having said that, it doesn't matter who you are...this was BAD treatment. My daughter graciously asked the woman if there was a changing table she could use in the restroom. By the looks on their faces, they must never use a bathroom . They were appalled and said No, we don t have those things here, you can go across the street . Have you ever seen Pretty Woman ? You know the scene where Julia Roberts walks into some expensive couture shop and is treated like trash...well, same scene....different store. Sure, would I have bought one of those $$$ outfits, NO, truth be told....I could make the same outfit for about $10.00. However, I was ready to purchase shoes like any other paying customer in their store....until that moment. I will NEVER go into this store again. They treated my daughter and granddaughter like trash.....news flash for these owners: Be nice to ALL your customers.... those who come in with big bucks, those on a budget and those who only want to dream about being able to buy their children the clothes/items you carry. Rosanne Barr said it best, I may look like I can't afford to be in your store, truth be told I could buy your store or build a bigger one just like it next door. Two things: (1) Treat all people with respect (2) Your business is all about children....you need to accommodate mothers who visit your store with a changing table, babies do need diaper changes...even if they are wearing $89.00 outfits. My favorite children's store by far! I have a little boy, and finding GREAT boys clothes used to be so difficult... until I found Kids on King. I know I am not going to get a bargain when shopping there - or anywhere on King Street - but it is so worth the trip in! And now I can find the same great clothes on their online store. And as a tip, the store pretty much never has in store sales, but does have online sales - what a great surprise! Thank you, Kids on King! read more
