Three years later, our kids - almost 8 and 4.5-year-old- are so much better off with AZ&A than without. AZ&A has helped us get to know our kids and ourselves as parents as well as it has been one of the most impactful support systems in our family life. The leaders and the counselors are beyond amazing and feel a part of our family. We started coming…read morewhen our youngest was an infant, she had some delays due to being cord wrapped in utero, and Karen has been wonderful with her, dealing with the eventual emotional delays and really teaching us how to help her regulate. Karen has given us a lot of support with parent calls, articles and tips for us to help her. We eventually needed to bring our oldest because she was having difficulties with her emotions and being able to regulate. We work with Katie, who has also been wonderful and the key to our child's progress has been regular parent meetings with Katie. I found I had to work just as hard on myself and understanding my reactions. This was fundamental to helping my child progress. Katie has really pushed me in a good way and has also been supportive with podcasts, articles and goals. If you are looking for some place to be passive and hope your child improves, this is not the place for you. If you are willing to get in there and play with your kid and get a deeper understanding of his/her struggles to boost yours and your kids emotional intelligence - this is the place. They are really good about helping you with insurance as much as they can. The physical environment is like no other clinic, it is much more like a home and less like a clinical space.

My son has been seeing Teresa for many years. She worked for Julie Kahn & Associates (another…read morefabulous practice) in Highland Park for awhile and then opened up her own practice in Northfield this summer. Teresa specializes in myofunctional therapy, which uses physical therapy exercises to improve breathing, facial posture and bite. While my son is expected to be in speech for longer he's made great improvements thanks to Teresa, a tongue tie procedure last year and starting orthodontics on the earlier side with Dr. Boyd (a dentist located in the city who specializes in airways). Teresa herself makes therapy fun for my son and he's always happy to go. He's been doing this a long time now so I appreciate that she finds ways to make it fun so that he doesn't get too sick of it. She's also been very helpful when it comes to speaking with Dr. Boyd, our ENT, and the speech therapists at his school. In fact, the therapists at school were so wow'd with Teresa that they even brought her in at one point to do a training for them. The only negative is that Teresa does not take insurance, although from my own research I found it difficult to find a speech therapist who specializes in myofunctional therapy that does take insurance. We did find someone many years ago, but she wasn't nearly as good as Teresa so this is money well spent. I do submit my bills to insurance every week and a little bit is covered each time. I do hope we get thru his treatment soon between the high therapy bills every month + time spent, but I do know that Teresa takes great care of him and has his best interest at heart.

can't say enough positive things about Melissa Block. I had…read moremy son at 37weeks gestation. he was growth restricted and had a tongue tie. Melissa met with us literally a few hours after his birth and really helped me figure things out and get into a routine. when I later had problems with an oversupply/fast letdown preventing my baby from latching at all- forcing us to switch to bottles- I texted her at night and she responded within the hour with assistance. she then met with me first thing in the morning and literally within the call he was back to latching at the breast with no issues! haven't needed to use a bottle since. I would HIGHLY recommend Melissa, she really knows what she's doing, makes herself available for you, and is so positive and reassuring about the process. many thanks to her!!

I contacted this practice to request an **in-person** consultation. The first question I was asked was not my name or concern, but rather, "What insurance do you have?" I was then informed that **all initial consultations are conducted virtually**. Despite expressing multiple times that I was only comfortable with an in-person visit, I was repeatedly told to proceed with scheduling a virtual appointment and to check with my insurance about coverage. After setting an appointment, I again inquired about the earliest possible date for an in-person follow-up. I was told that most clients don't need in-person visits and that one might be possible the following week if they decided it was warranted. I felt dismissed and somewhat embarrassed for asking--despite my request being both personal and reasonable. For many, myself included, the idea of being partially undressed on a Zoom call is deeply uncomfortable, especially when discussing something as sensitive as breastfeeding. I also had concerns that a virtual visit might rely too heavily on generic recommendations, many of which I've already tried. Lactation consultants need to be present to help the mom maneuver their breast. This is supposed to be (to the extent a mother wants this) a hands-on experience. When I decided to cancel my appointment, **only then** was I offered an in-person visit the very next day. At that point, I no longer felt confident that this provider would prioritize or listen to my individual needs, so I chose to seek care elsewhere. While I do believe this practice could be a helpful resource for others, my personal experience fell short. From the initial focus on insurance over care, to the lack of flexibility or empathy regarding my comfort and preferences, it became clear this was not the right fit for me. I'm seeking support from someone who genuinely wants to help me meet my breastfeeding goals--not someone who sees me as just another appointment on the schedule.
