The P5 teacher Jennifer is exactly the same but hides behind the director. Encouraged my family to seek an IEP solely as a means to kick my kindergarten age daughters out. Tried to circumvent the IEP process by trying to reach out to the care team to gain a recommendation that supported their goal of kicking my kid out. When that failed the principal lied about what the care team recommended. Bullied, harassed, and finally attempted to blackmail my family into voluntarily pulling my kid out in the last few months of the school year. This behavior started escalating the day of our IEP assessment and ended in a forced reduction of service before any accommodation request was made. This was after a glowing assessment of my daughter's growth. When I made a complaint about discrimination against the Preschool Director they declined to investigate without so much as a call to discuss my concerns.

We took for granted the high quality care and high standards set by the management and staff. We took a short break and moved our youngest to another daycare for a month just to be closer to our house (national chain daycare in Kenmore), and it was literally night and day. The other daycare was subpar in quality and extremely short staffed, even though the tuition was comparable. We decided to move them back to Birch Tree, and drive the extra miles. What we love about Birch Tree is the management, warm and caring teachers who give lots of hugs, home cooked food, facilities, quality education, classroom camera and Bright Wheel App. Despite the locations expansion, BTA still feels locally owned and the owner Natalie and head of schools Jessica are very much involved in all of their schools. You will still see them in-person floating around the different locations. They generally know all student's names, and the local staff are always friendly and greating parents. They hold their staff to high standards and also expect the same of parents. Kids are well behaved, they wear inside vs outside shoes. Food is better than my home cooked meals, classrooms are modern with high ceilings and large windows, and all teachers have open communication with parents via the instant messaging feature. The admin staff is also on top of communication, and they have an abundance of teachers and admin staff. They also offer weekly PE, music, and Spanish classes which are all included in the price. They also offer parents night-out occasionally, and host events and weekly summer field trips for pre-k. You can do 3, 4, or 5 days a week. Speaking with staff, they enjoy working there and say that there's opportunity for them to grow and take on different roles within the school or office. Other parents we've met have moved from other daycares to go to BTA and seem very happy with BTA. They have well prepared our oldest for kindergarten and we are so thankful. None of these things we observed with the national chain daycare.

We have been part of the Northshore School District for 4 years and participated in various choice…read moreprograms at the Elementary school level. In general, our experience with all programs has been positive. The general ed program has some truly stellar teachers and admin staff. School spirit is lovely and our children developed a true love of learning. Class sizes are reasonable (in general, 20-25 students). Our kids have loved their specialist teachers for library, PE and Music. We were part of the PACE Program for 2 years. This was a fantastic opportunity for building community with other parents and participating more actively in an enriched learning experience. Our child got to take a spanish class once a week and had monthly field-trips - all because parents were involved and provided extra man power to allow these activities to happen regularly. Currently, we are part of the NFP program. Here, we are technically homeschooling under the guidance of state-certified teachers. Our children attend a few classes a week based on interest. These classes are project based with lots of social skills development. COVID notes: NSD was the first district in the USA to close in March 2020 and has remained closed through the time of writing with no re-entry date/timeline announced. The superintendent has been both praised and criticized for her decisions in this regard. While this is a frustrating time for all, the decisions of the district are clearly based on science-based evidence for best practice during the pandemic. One of the heavier criticisms of this prolonged closure is that student mental health has reached crisis points. While much of this evidence is anecdotal, I have not seen efforts from the district to allocate funds and qualified staff to addressing this crisis. For my family, we have sought mental health support from outside private resources.

Update: Another retaliation from the center - they called to mention that what they said last Friday that it cannot have incident report, can now do, and they started sending incident reports today (Monday 4/29) after seeing my review. Extremely disappointed, I genuinely thoug6Bright Horizons was better than this... Our 19 months old twins go to the center since they were 15 months. When they first joined the center, they were getting sick more often than not, and they were also being bitten at least once a day (where they'd send an acual official incident report - photos attached for one of the times the kid was bit). We got frustrated because of what happened, but by the time we raised a flag on the issue, things got better (we think the problem child with the biting moved to the twos class). However, not long after, the center started preparing to split up our twins without even telling us, so we raised the issue with them since we wanted our twins to have some bonding time yet, and they backed our of their plans. However, after this, they started saying that our toddlers make problems in the classroom by 'fighting over toys' between themselves and other children, 'pulling hair', as well as 'running off' on the hallways, and they put the kids on a 'behavior improvement plan' where we'd need to be ready to pick up the child any day where they make a problem in the classroom, and where the enrollment could be paused in two weeks if no improvement is noticed (we're not expecting them to report an improvement). Please note that: * In the center admin's eyes, (running off) and (fighting over toys) are not typical toddler behavior, but (biting) is. * There are no official incident reports for 'pulling hair', 'running off' or 'fighting over toys' if not child got hurt, so they're officially make it up here.

Our daughter loves her teachers and loves going to daycare each day. Sometimes it's hard to get her to come home in the evenings. BH does so much for kids' learning. They have even suggested things that we can try at home to further the learning. They also care about every child. I have seen many teachers cuddling with children that need some extra attention at times (my kid included). I cannot recommend this facility enough. It is worth the money, no question about it!

Just absolutely superb!…read more My 16 mo old son just started attending UCiC and I just wanted to share about the exceptional experience I have had so far as a parent here. I toured about 8 daycares before choosing this place. This was actually the very first time that my son had been away from family. After months of prayer and research I felt like God led me to the right daycare and I'm so thankful He did. There were a few small bumps the first week of school and I feel the need to express what an amazing director Miss Abrams is. She really stepped into an issue and took ownership to reach out to me and cater to my son's needs. She did not wait even one day and right away took proactive measures to see how she could improve the situation. She made the issue her own and made me such a happy parent at the end of the day. I'm grateful for her acute leadership and her loving care. I could really sense her genuine love and heart for her students and I'm thankful that we have crossed paths. The outcome came out better than I could have expected. I manage a few businesses and I'm a fierce advocate for solid customer service. She is tremendous and if you are a parent like us, look no further.

I make my voice heard at their IEP meetings and feel the boys themselves are being listened to. #2 child has an interest in Computer Science so as a request he was put into AP computer science. He also got put into a foreign language his Sophomore year as I told them his brother was denied a foreign language so #2 better get into one as He wants to go to a 4 year collage and he needs 2 years of one. More specifically, for my dealings with the District for IEP (individualized education plan) and other service needs for my oldest son (who has a learning disability). The Northshore School District is hands down far superior to the Everett School District in the regard of implementing an IEP for an elementary school student. That is, unfortunately, where their 'win' ends and their "FAIL" begins. Getting the recommendations of both outside UW Dr.'s and the Districts own staff actually implemented into reality is the most difficult experience you may ever face. You know the saying, "but it looks so good on paper"? That seems to be their motto. As long as, on paper, they appear to be following state regulations, district policy and doing everything possible to meet the child's needs--they don't care beyond that. I don't mean to be harsh in that regard, but I mean, they REALLY don't care. In the 8+ years of dealing with the District, various schools, and various staff on behalf of my son, I believe it to be a systemic leadership, policy and education of staff issue with the District that we had such problems. Paperwork was routinely lost. Annual meetings were always late. Recommendations were never followed through on. Accommodations were faked or not given. Calls, emails, letters would go unreturned for weeks. When we could talk to people, it was always "I'll look into it and call you back". I have been waiting, even now, for a response from the District at the Administrative/Director level since early October. I've gotten a lot of apologies when I follow up, but never answers or assistance. What turned me 'against' the District- if you wish to put it that way- my son's IEP was written, and utilized, more like a "behavioral plan" and a disciplinary tool than anything else. Even when doing so violated District disciplinary policy or the state regulations. (A 'normal' child would get a warning first time, my son would get immediately suspended without notice. He once spent over 3 hours alone on the sidewalk down the street from school because they wouldn't let him use the phone and didn't call to alert us he'd been suspended "on the spot") The older he got, the worse it did as well. Little changed. Pages and pages of "He will not, He can not" for a child with almost zero behavior issues, and most of which were directly tied to his learning disability and have corrected themselves as he's aged and matured, yet they remain in his IEP. (and also could have with the most basic cognitive therapy and such in his IEP) The most frustrating part about that, is that he began to give up and just not care about school. My son's needs, the actual accommodations he required, are not difficult, expensive or altogether outside the normal classroom experience. I offered to purchase them or provide them myself, as well, and was repeatedly not allowed to do so. I shudder to think what a more severely disabled child and their parents must have to go through or 'put up with' to see to their child's education. There are many fantastic schools, and many fantastic teachers within this school District. Through the years, between me, my brother and my kids (even my oldest with all our struggles) have had some amazing experiences with truly caring and talented individuals. My other children are now outside this District, and my oldest has chosen to finish High School in this District without an adequate IEP since it is his last year of HS, but I cannot recommend the Northshore School District, overall, for anyone considering a move here *IF* your child needs an IEP. Should you (a) not know whether your child might need or benefit from an IEP, or (b) have advocates and lawyers already working with your family in this regard for your child--then I believe you may have a chance at a good experience with this District.

This will be lengthy. I would rate the district with five stars for my normal child. It's very…read moredifficult for me to give a rating based on my slightly autistic child. Autism is becoming more prevalent and the need for teachers that are trained specifically to deal with autism isn't required (not in this state, and I'm honestly not up to date on what is required here or other states). Even our special Ed teachers, or teachers working in CLC classrooms. For the most part, I think our experience is average, and I wouldn't equate that statement to a compliment. IEP's are stressful, and at times I feel that specific needs aren't met. By law, schools are required to be inclusive, meaning our special Ed kids should have as much time in their regular grade level classrooms as possible, which is good for the general education classes to experience as well. I can understand (having a regular kid) some debate against this; I wouldn't want my general Ed child having less of an education because the teacher is spending all their time with a special needs child. And I'm uncomfortable with the cost of an aid standing by my child full time, even though he should have it if he needs it. The last couple of years my autistic child was in school, he wasn't aloud in a regular classroom setting. He does need a lot of support though, so, I'm somewhat understanding. I feel that this creates a breeding ground for bullying. He would be alone during lunch time, and excluded by the other kids who wouldn't allow him to sit at their table. He had to sit at the peanut free table while eating his pb&j, something that his teacher never did anything about. We have had some kind and compassionate teachers, and only one horrible general Ed teacher experience to speak of. I would say that my experience with having a child with autism in this school district has at times been very sad and heartbreaking. I have had other parents quit speaking to me entirely upon finding out that my child is in special Ed, and while that has nothing to do with the district, it says a lot about the attitudes you might expect. Certainly not all parents! Some haven't acted any different when they learn this. My general Ed kid goes to Crystal Springs, which unfortunately doesn't have a special Ed class. It seems like the most understanding parents I have met, have been here. I would rate this child's experience with different schools in this district with a one star. I don't wish to offend most of his great teachers with this rating, rather point out that big changes for these special needs kids needs to happen. There are so many aspects of the implemented system that can make a parent feel like their child is equal to dog poop, in the districts eyes. I would also like to add that if you met my son and didn't know anything about autism, you would never guess he had it, which can actually be a big disadvantage even dealing with teachers. I now have my child enrolled in Northshore Networks, which is a homeschool type program. Initially, when I tried to enroll him, the person I spoke with told me I had to get a new IEP written up and then the process would be started. I did exactly as directed but when I brought in the updated IEP, this very same person then indicated that they typically won't take kids on an IEP..... I felt so upset and angry about this. I am in a lucky enough position to be able to homeschool my child- not everyone can take this on! He did end up getting into Northshore Networks, and things are so much better. His teacher there is above fantastic, and my son is being educated now at his grade level, and he is no longer depressed. I am grateful to be able to do this for him, and that the district has this program. I would rate Northshore Networks with 5 stars! Great option and wonderful people here. I would still rate it this high even though enrolling him had its frustrating moments. I wish this program was a little bigger so as to allow more kids this option. That may be why they are selective? Please keep in mind that Northshore Networks is a homeschool program and means that as a parent you become entirely responsible for education, only meeting with a teacher once per week, to check assignments and get new ones. Thank you Northshore for letting us into the homeschool program, and for my daughters wonderful school. We have a ways to go though, for our special needs kids education and socialization. It's probably not the worst, but certainly room for improvement. One more thing I would like to add: my general Ed student has never had a teacher that we didn't love. Every single one. And they have all been above our expectations.

Also, kids at this age are unable to determine if the teacher is bad or good. Look for attitude or behavioral changes in your kids and act quickly to reduce the damage of bad teachers. The damage maybe done quickly but recovery could take years. Our first child had a horrible teacher and we did not even know it until was too late. Once we took action we noticed positive changes. -Teacher turnover. Most years our kids get different teachers. Often the new teachers were worse. -Involuntairy Diana fund which is suppose to goto family that need extra help. Not sure where all the is spent. -administration -Not qualifed family members working as teachers and admins. -We taught them better at home barely trying than the school -Did not handle covid situation well. Montessori is all about the teacher relationship not with the school. Certificate of Montessori is also based on teachers which give the schools the claim to be certified. There are not great options for Montessori in the Bothell area. I heard Issaquah maybe better. Woodinville Montessori especially is all about making money from the most wealth and unfortunately this Montessori is the same, albeit less obvious than Woodinville. If we were to do it over we might of taken Heritage preschool with some emphasis on play based learning. It was not worth the extra money and time. We spent extra hoping the investment will be well worth it for our kids. After 5 years we are still believers of play based learning but this was just okay. When we had great teachers it was worth it but they were not around long enough for us.
