Then Covid happened and they were flooded with kids. Classes are too big. If you have a child with any kind of learning disability or anything this is not a good school at all. They barely make accommodations and don't have IEP and 504 programs to help. One year my child's teacher yelled at the class all the time. Kids with parents on campus get special treatment, and this school is very inconsistent with discipline. There are also drugs on campus.

The principal and the former principal are both fabulous, and the teachers genuinely care about their students. My son would need an IEP in public school, but he has so much support and a smaller class size. When he was having a rough week, his teacher even sent me updates throughout each day to reassure me. She also gave him alternative activities when he was struggling to sit still. I love that he can have his kick band and fidget toys if he needs them, and he gets plenty of recess, which is so important. I should add that I am a teacher and am picky when it comes to curriculum. I'm thrilled with my childrens' progress here. Both of my kids have been attending since the Beginner Preschool class, and my son is about to go into 1st grade, while my daughter is heading to Pre-K. My son is definitely ahead with certain areas of academics, and when he needs more of a challenge or extra support, he can go to the Learning Success Center. Last but not least, although the accommodations and academics are great, I have seen my kids grow so much in their faith. They come home singing worship songs, reciting Scripture, and growing in their knowledge and love for the Lord. This is so important to my husband and me. Hopefully this helped. Due to a couple negative reviews, I should add that our principal changed last year, and although the former principal is fabulous, Mr. Saunders is doing an awesome job. God clearly wanted him in the principal role.

We took for granted the high quality care and high standards set by the management and staff. We took a short break and moved our youngest to another daycare for a month just to be closer to our house (national chain daycare in Kenmore), and it was literally night and day. The other daycare was subpar in quality and extremely short staffed, even though the tuition was comparable. We decided to move them back to Birch Tree, and drive the extra miles. What we love about Birch Tree is the management, warm and caring teachers who give lots of hugs, home cooked food, facilities, quality education, classroom camera and Bright Wheel App. Despite the locations expansion, BTA still feels locally owned and the owner Natalie and head of schools Jessica are very much involved in all of their schools. You will still see them in-person floating around the different locations. They generally know all student's names, and the local staff are always friendly and greating parents. They hold their staff to high standards and also expect the same of parents. Kids are well behaved, they wear inside vs outside shoes. Food is better than my home cooked meals, classrooms are modern with high ceilings and large windows, and all teachers have open communication with parents via the instant messaging feature. The admin staff is also on top of communication, and they have an abundance of teachers and admin staff. They also offer weekly PE, music, and Spanish classes which are all included in the price. They also offer parents night-out occasionally, and host events and weekly summer field trips for pre-k. You can do 3, 4, or 5 days a week. Speaking with staff, they enjoy working there and say that there's opportunity for them to grow and take on different roles within the school or office. Other parents we've met have moved from other daycares to go to BTA and seem very happy with BTA. They have well prepared our oldest for kindergarten and we are so thankful. None of these things we observed with the national chain daycare.

Autism is becoming more prevalent and the need for teachers that are trained specifically to deal with autism isn't required (not in this state, and I'm honestly not up to date on what is required here or other states). Even our special Ed teachers, or teachers working in CLC classrooms. For the most part, I think our experience is average, and I wouldn't equate that statement to a compliment. IEP's are stressful, and at times I feel that specific needs aren't met. By law, schools are required to be inclusive, meaning our special Ed kids should have as much time in their regular grade level classrooms as possible, which is good for the general education classes to experience as well. I can understand (having a regular kid) some debate against this; I wouldn't want my general Ed child having less of an education because the teacher is spending all their time with a special needs child. And I'm uncomfortable with the cost of an aid standing by my child full time, even though he should have it if he needs it. The last couple of years my autistic child was in school, he wasn't aloud in a regular classroom setting. He does need a lot of support though, so, I'm somewhat understanding. I feel that this creates a breeding ground for bullying. He would be alone during lunch time, and excluded by the other kids who wouldn't allow him to sit at their table. He had to sit at the peanut free table while eating his pb&j, something that his teacher never did anything about. We have had some kind and compassionate teachers, and only one horrible general Ed teacher experience to speak of. I would say that my experience with having a child with autism in this school district has at times been very sad and heartbreaking. I have had other parents quit speaking to me entirely upon finding out that my child is in special Ed, and while that has nothing to do with the district, it says a lot about the attitudes you might expect. Certainly not all parents! Some haven't acted any different when they learn this. My general Ed kid goes to Crystal Springs, which unfortunately doesn't have a special Ed class. It seems like the most understanding parents I have met, have been here. I would rate this child's experience with different schools in this district with a one star. I don't wish to offend most of his great teachers with this rating, rather point out that big changes for these special needs kids needs to happen. There are so many aspects of the implemented system that can make a parent feel like their child is equal to dog poop, in the districts eyes. I would also like to add that if you met my son and didn't know anything about autism, you would never guess he had it, which can actually be a big disadvantage even dealing with teachers. I now have my child enrolled in Northshore Networks, which is a homeschool type program. Initially, when I tried to enroll him, the person I spoke with told me I had to get a new IEP written up and then the process would be started. I did exactly as directed but when I brought in the updated IEP, this very same person then indicated that they typically won't take kids on an IEP..... I felt so upset and angry about this. I am in a lucky enough position to be able to homeschool my child- not everyone can take this on! He did end up getting into Northshore Networks, and things are so much better. His teacher there is above fantastic, and my son is being educated now at his grade level, and he is no longer depressed. I am grateful to be able to do this for him, and that the district has this program. I would rate Northshore Networks with 5 stars! Great option and wonderful people here. I would still rate it this high even though enrolling him had its frustrating moments. I wish this program was a little bigger so as to allow more kids this option. That may be why they are selective? Please keep in mind that Northshore Networks is a homeschool program and means that as a parent you become entirely responsible for education, only meeting with a teacher once per week, to check assignments and get new ones. Thank you Northshore for letting us into the homeschool program, and for my daughters wonderful school. We have a ways to go though, for our special needs kids education and socialization. It's probably not the worst, but certainly room for improvement. One more thing I would like to add: my general Ed student has never had a teacher that we didn't love. Every single one. And they have all been above our expectations.

Also, kids at this age are unable to determine if the teacher is bad or good. Look for attitude or behavioral changes in your kids and act quickly to reduce the damage of bad teachers. The damage maybe done quickly but recovery could take years. Our first child had a horrible teacher and we did not even know it until was too late. Once we took action we noticed positive changes. -Teacher turnover. Most years our kids get different teachers. Often the new teachers were worse. -Involuntairy Diana fund which is suppose to goto family that need extra help. Not sure where all the is spent. -administration -Not qualifed family members working as teachers and admins. -We taught them better at home barely trying than the school -Did not handle covid situation well. Montessori is all about the teacher relationship not with the school. Certificate of Montessori is also based on teachers which give the schools the claim to be certified. There are not great options for Montessori in the Bothell area. I heard Issaquah maybe better. Woodinville Montessori especially is all about making money from the most wealth and unfortunately this Montessori is the same, albeit less obvious than Woodinville. If we were to do it over we might of taken Heritage preschool with some emphasis on play based learning. It was not worth the extra money and time. We spent extra hoping the investment will be well worth it for our kids. After 5 years we are still believers of play based learning but this was just okay. When we had great teachers it was worth it but they were not around long enough for us.

In general, our experience with all programs has been positive. The general ed program has some truly stellar teachers and admin staff. School spirit is lovely and our children developed a true love of learning. Class sizes are reasonable (in general, 20-25 students). Our kids have loved their specialist teachers for library, PE and Music. We were part of the PACE Program for 2 years. This was a fantastic opportunity for building community with other parents and participating more actively in an enriched learning experience. Our child got to take a spanish class once a week and had monthly field-trips - all because parents were involved and provided extra man power to allow these activities to happen regularly. Currently, we are part of the NFP program. Here, we are technically homeschooling under the guidance of state-certified teachers. Our children attend a few classes a week based on interest. These classes are project based with lots of social skills development. COVID notes: NSD was the first district in the USA to close in March 2020 and has remained closed through the time of writing with no re-entry date/timeline announced. The superintendent has been both praised and criticized for her decisions in this regard. While this is a frustrating time for all, the decisions of the district are clearly based on science-based evidence for best practice during the pandemic. One of the heavier criticisms of this prolonged closure is that student mental health has reached crisis points. While much of this evidence is anecdotal, I have not seen efforts from the district to allocate funds and qualified staff to addressing this crisis. For my family, we have sought mental health support from outside private resources.

They work with him on preschool learning, and they have been incredibly supportive with potty training. Because of their patience and guidance, Kamran behaves really well there and at home he is now almost fully potty trained You can truly tell that Diana and Amanda care deeply about the kids. They are compassionate, respectful to parents, friendly, and very easy to approach. Every time I see them, it's obvious how hard they work and how much love they put into what they do. Working with children is not easy, it takes a special heart and special kind of person. They really are superheroes in this field, and they are a huge asset to this company. The owner also introduced himself to me and showed appreciation, which meant a lot. That level of hospitality made me feel even more comfortable and safe bringing my son there. I actually drive very far just so Kamran can attend this location. I truly wish there was a KidsPark closer to where we live, that would be perfect. I reported an ADA hazard at Shorewood High School -- a concrete lip nearly five times the legal limit -- and braced for the classic municipal experience: a ticket number, then silence until the heat death of the universe. Instead: same-day response from the district's ADA officer, followed by the brand-new Maintenance Director -- roughly day three on the job -- who had already written the work order. I have received worse customer service while actively holding a receipt. Ambience: miles of hard surfaces, mostly flat. Staff: responsive, good-humored, tolerant of pedantry. Would report infrastructure defects here again. Will update when the grinder truck arrives. The world is not flat -- but this corner of Shoreline is working on it.

My 3.5 yo child began a class here last fall and we've had nothing short of a terrific experience since day 1. School sessions are held in 4 different, fully-functional classrooms, each with a color-name, and supplied with a head teacher and at least two assistant teachers as well as parental volunteers, and each offers the choice between morning or afternoon classes lasting just shy of 4 hours, 4 days a week (no school on Fridays). Even before the school year begins, your child's assigned teacher will visit your home, explain the program and meet your child to make the first day(s) experience as comfortable as possible. Once school begins, classes are structured with daily schedules that include circle/group time, lunch provided by the school in the cafeteria (for PM class, not sure of AM), reading, crafts, fun lessons that usually correspond with a weekly theme, sufficient time for hygiene maintenance ala required hand-washing blocks, teeth brushing and consistent bathroom breaks, and TONS of sensory and free-play. In 5 months, my child is a pro at ABC's and color recognition and is far ahead of where I would expect in letter writing and fine-motor skills such as cutting, coloring within the lines and gluing. My child's classroom (The Red Room with Mary as lead teacher) in particular is a pure joy. My child began the school year very shy and apprehensive in nature. We weren't sure s/he was ready to be in such a bustling setting but it was BECAUSE of this extreme shyness that we wanted to try it out and we are just absolutely thrilled that we did. S/he has made friends quickly, is having a blast learning and playing in a safe, educational setting and the shyness has almost completely dissipated - after only 5 months! Each class is also assigned a family resource counselor who readily offers support both in and out of the classroom via regular check-ins and home visits, and after-school family activities such as Bubble Night, Literary Night and Parent Cafe - as well as open invitations to volunteer in or visit the classroom ANY time you want - ensures that you are welcomed and encouraged to participate in your child's early education experience. There is absolutely nothing I can possibly say that is negative about this school/program. It could use some posted direction and improvements in the parking lots (people parking in front of handicap walkways and in obviously restricted areas) but that's menial in the overall perspective. All in all, love, love, LOVE this place and couldn't be happier.

Buildings on the campus are mainly brick and both the athletic areas and the main campus are well adorned in Warriors theme. My familiarity is mainly in regards to sports. The stadium area hosts competitions in sports including football, soccer, and track and field. Wesco Conference Championships for track and field have been a consistent end-of-season competition contested on the campus. When I competed against Edmonds Woodway in high school for swimming (2006 thru 2009 autumn seasons), their home pool was the Lynnwood Recreation Center - so no on-campus pool as least at that point in time. Open air on-campus sports facilities (such as the stadium area) may remain locked to the public even outside of school hours.

Port Gardner has helped me gain confidence, both in my choice to homeschool, and in teaching itself.

Attending the school on-campus from the autumn of 2006 to the spring of 2008, I enjoyed the classes and variety of electives offered. My teachers were good to excellent and I enjoyed the campus design. It has since been remodeled into a multi-story structure. I took part on the swim team all four years, track and field one spring, and water polo two springs. Some of the dynamics between students in my classes and in sports came to be a bit tiring, so I decided to take part in the Washington State Running Start program full-time from the autumn of 2008 to the spring of 2010. This meant I took 100% of my classes at Shoreline Community College instead of the high school. It was a great was to transition to college coursework and attain my first college degree in conjunction with my high school diploma as the credits I earned counted for both.
