I just moved back to Astoria after several years away and was looking to find my new go-to stylist…read more Hygge will definitely not be getting my business. I had the most frustrating experience trying to schedule an appointment here. Nobody answered the phone, which is understandable in a small salon, but after leaving a few voicemails over the course of a week (detailed with my name, number, and service requested) I never received a call back. I went on their website where I saw they accept walk-ins- great! So I stopped by one weekday afternoon and saw a big sign on the front door that also indicated walk-ins were welcome. Upon entering the salon, I noticed it was totally dead. This was during peak COVID, and a stylist came out from the back not wearing a mask. I asked if she had time for a walk-in haircut, but she said no. Okay, how about a quick bang trim? Still no, due to COVID restrictions, she said. Well can I book an appointment for now? Still no. I was a bit irritated that I had wasted my time stopping in for a service that was no longer available. I politely suggested that if their policy was to refuse all walk-ins, they should remove the "walk-ins welcome" signage from their website and door. I was rudely told that "COVID will be over soon" so there was no need to update the signage. Uhm, well....it's many months later we're just now seeing restrictions loosened. Her attitude was very dismissive. Also, if you're going to blame COVID for refusing to accommodate new customers, how about you wear a freakin' mask?! Very unwelcoming and unprofessional.

Excellent Staff | Fun place for kids…read more I've been cutting my kid's hair for the last 5 years and thought today would be the day she gets her hair cut by a professional hair stylist. I researched a bunch of places and chose this place. Plus, my neighbor takes her two boys (2 and 4 yrs old) here, so I decided to give this place a try. I went on their website, which was very helpful with lots of information, and downloaded their app. Their app is so slow, unfortunately, so I didn't get to use it in the store. But, I showed my 5 yr old photos of the place and all of the neat things they had--a slide, cars/planes to sit in, games and shows to watch, brightly colored walls with kid-friendly graphics...etc. She was excited! She picked the person she wanted to have her hair cut by, Sydney. From the moment we stepped in to the time we left, my daughter had a great experience here. She's a very shy kid and very nervous to try anything new. The staff was very upbeat, friendly, and welcoming. Sydney is EXCELLENT. She asked what I wanted for my daughter's haircut, a quick cut and bang trim. She was very patient with my kid and went with whatever she was comfortable with. She never pushed her to do anything she wasn't comfortable doing. She put on a show for my daughter to watch while getting her hair cut. The cut took 10 minutes. Afterward, my daughter was so excited to go down their slide a few times. She picked out a yellow balloon and a lollipop. She left with a very positive experience here. I'm thankful I found a place that can cut my kid's hair in a much shorter time than I could do while making the experience light and fun. We'll be back. We recommend this place :)

They let them chose their seats, the tv, and they provide balloons and lollipops after. It's not cheap, but I have gone several times and will go again.

Super cuts for kids but much more expensive…read more I wanted to like this place, I really did. However, I couldn't. At face value, it seems terrific. Cute colors and branding. Adorable cars for the kiddies to sit in, what's not to like? 1) we entered in at our appointment time. Despite numerous stylists, nobody could be bothered to even acknowledge us. Which was pretty awkward since the space is small. We became the invaders who wondered if we landed in the wrong spot (we checked the address twice during to the vibe). After about 15-20 minutes (or at least it felt that way), one of the stylist finished, approached to ring up their client and still continued to ignore us until the client was gone. Not even a "hello" or "we'll be right with you." Once we were acknowledged, things improved and they became chatty and friendly. However, our stylist asked what hair cut we wanted. We brought several pics but the outcome really didn't resemble any option we provided. We requested the kiddos hair be kept a bit longer with it being winter. They immediately popped out the shaver and started going to town. I was very surprised since none of the photos would have included the razor. They stated "it'll look right in a few weeks". Such an odd statement. I appreciated the applesauce packets, goldfish and water. But, the whole experience was just a bit over the top wonky. For $45 I would have hoped to get at least a hello or the haircut requested. I also found it a bit cheap to have a wall of random toys for purchase. Maybe that's the point. Have your clients show up at appointment time but wait 20 minutes so the kids can snoop the up charge section. The biggest oddity though are the cars. The appeal is they get their cuts done in adorable cars that have steering wheels but you're telling a 2 year old not to touch it the whole haircut? They can only touch it when it's time to get out to pay....maybe it's a life lesson on dangling carrots. The secret to sitting still is a tablet in front of the kids face while the haircut is being processed. Which is the caveat behind this entire place...devoid of personality hidden behind some cute wallpaper.

This was our son's second ever haircut, and considering how well he did the first time, we were…read morehoping this time would be the same. He isn't fazed by buzzers, scissors or any part of the process, so other than being a rambunctious little guy, the experience is usually quick and painless. Our son's stylist was focused, careful and unobtrusive, getting the job done despite him combing his own hair with a "borrowed" comb, or "driving" the car/chair he was sitting in, shouting "Beep beep!" every minute or so. All in all, the process took around 10-15 minutes, which is pretty impressive, considering all of his wiggling around! Sit still, he did not! Reservations are highly recommended, as we were unable to secure a spot during our walk-in the day before. And be aware that a haircut here is going to run you north of $50 with tip (which is more than I pay for my own hair). There is a small play place with a few magazines, toys, crayons, coloring books and the like, but don't be fooled: most of the books, toys, stuffies and such on the side wall are *for sale*, not for play. This being my first child, I'm not sure how many other barbershops and salons actually cater to small children as their clientele, but as far as I'm concerned Sit Still does enough things right to prevent me from looking elsewhere: cute, convenient and competent.
