Brand new! Loved the teachers and the tiny tigers class, the classroom needs a little more airflow or something.

I'm very pleased to see that he finally was able to open his own independent dojo to celebrate traditional Okinawan Uechi Ryu Karate, as well as the rich cultures that Okinawa brings. The Cultural Center has many artifacts in a museum style in a side room. There's also many people from the community like the DC Okinawan Kai who utilizes the space. It is a safe and welcoming space for not just Okinawan people, but those interested in learning more about the culture and tradition. This spacious dojo has two kicking/punching bags ready for training, many talented instructors, and classes for children and adult alike! I am excited for what's to come for this OKCC! I hope new students can find their new karate home like it's been for me throughout the years!

During that time, he hosted some of the Okinawan masters at his dojo, which is how we met. Those were great classes, and when it was time for me to find a new dojo, I joined Master Folta at his new location. It's a fine space, and the training there is authentic and excellent. Master Folta is kind and genuine, while also encouraging everyone to reach for the highest standards. His careful eye has improved my karate in many ways, large and small. I was careful in my choice of schools, and picked the best one in the area. I've seen his students, both kids and adults, get better over time and stay with the program. If you're serious about learning karate that works, this is the place I recommend. There is a lot to learn, and this is the real deal.

Hidy Ochiai Karate stood out above them all! Their classes go beyond the regular karate classes that other martial arts places provide. Here, they also do Kobudo which we learned is the use of ancient weapons! Trust me, your kids will go bonkers for this class!! It's taught in an extremely safe way, but still makes the kids feel like ninja superstars! I kind of want to take it myself :D Our daughter also did the summer camp this past summer and she loved it! She came home with real calligraphy paintings! Another thing that pushes them to the top is that they have Master Hidy Ochiai himself who comes down from New York to do special teachings with the kids each month. Look him up on YouTube and watch him slice an apple on someone's neck .... wait for it .... blindfolded! His skills are incredible and he is incredible with the kids as well. This school is in no competition with any other Martial Arts place because it's THAT good! I want to write a novel on here, lol, but I won't. Just one last thing to note: Sensei Winkler himself is AHmazing with the kids too. The way he talks and interacts with the kids makes them listen and have fun. I've sat and watched him a number of times when my daughter is in class. He's structured and fun, which is exactly what my daughter needs! Sensei Winkler is an incredible teacher because he has a lifetime of experience and many trophies from national Championship tournaments! You have to at the very least come to their free class on Saturdays!

MOST Highly Recommended!! It will be hard for you to find an instructor like Master Thomas. I had…read morethe opportunity to train briefly with him back in the '80's although he wasn't my primary instructor. His depth of knowledge and experience is amazing. He was the king of "mixed martial arts" before there was such a thing! The way you'll learn weapons, Empty hand, juijitsu and all the tools of real life self defense is a unique curriculum that most other teachers haven't developed or really care too... me included! I've been teaching on my own out of state for years but I dream of visiting his school and being humbled in his presence. If you're looking for a school for you or your kids you should consider the teacher's personal character, and here again Master Thomas sets a standard that most teachers can't match. Anybody who has a belt has earned it, and whereas most 1st blacks you see these days at the studios are totally incompetent, I pity someone who would mess with ANY of his black belts! They earn it! Particularly, over the years I've enjoyed telling my own students about his approach to the board breaking requirements - very unique and well thought out! I just realized my next phone call should be to Southwest airlines!!

The first class was free, which was nice because C just observed from the side lines for the first 20 minutes of class until the moon bounce came out (what toddler would pass this up?!). Since C didn't really participate his first class, Ms. Susan (one of the owners) was kind enough to let him try the class again the following week free of charge. This time around, C participated and really enjoyed it. The Pre-Karate class is once a week in the early evening. The class is broken up into three parts, which I like since the attention span of a toddler is quite short. Each class begins with a short story followed by stretching while counting to 10 in Korean. Then they move onto practicing their karate skills/technique, which generally consists of stance, blocking, punching, and kicking. The last part of the class consists of a sport or game with the theme changing each month. On the last class of the month, they bring out the moon bounce. At the end of class, everyone gets a sticker. The owners, Mr. Daniel and Ms. Susan, are both fantastic. They are extremely kind and really good with children. You could tell they enjoy their jobs a lot. They both have a lot of patience, especially with the little ones. The other instructors (C has worked with Ms. Stephanie and Mr. Peter) are good as well. Besides having great, caring instructors, another thing I liked about Pandas Karate was the fact that you didn't have to sign a long term contract. Payments are monthly, with a slight discount (and free uniform) if you sign a four month contract. Pandas Karate not only teaches Karate, it also enhances listening skills, teaches manners, and can enhance one's self confidence. I highly recommend checking Pandas out!

This school is very family oriented and maintains an educational yet fun environment. The pricing here is very fair for the classes as well as their branded merchandise. The class schedule is also very easy to follow. The daily class schedule for each level of students is different for every day of the week. However, this schedule is the same every week. Once you input the dates into your calendar you can put them on repeat and you'll never miss a beat. The belt testing here is also done well in my opinion. The testing dates are announced well in advance and I've also seen them posted throughout the Dojo. As long as the students attend, participate and learn the different blocks, punches, etc then they should pass their tests each time. My son has moved up to the next belt each time he has a belt test. The new location is really cool too! They now have two floors which allows them to accommodate more classes as well. I really am glad that my son attends Okinawan Karate Dojo! I'm lookong forward to him earning his black belt here one day.
