I was hoping it would be like that again after the epidemic. the focus appears to be now online interactive event services and it is far different then it once was. Apparently, there are those people who love the way it is now as according to recent reviews on their website but I miss the chance of actually going to events. I do not want to participate on virtual events online, I want to actually go to events. If I recall, there was another event planning service called Up & Out that has long gone but they had some major problems that led to apparently permanently closing the business from what I remember but cannot find any information about it anymore on the Internet.

I went to see a ballet for free the other night. All I had to do was print something out online. My tickets were already arranged and I had great seats, without any worry about whether or not my tickets would work (like some other companies...). This is a review of Burger Boogaloo 2017 as was my first time attending yesterday. I had no trouble…read moregetting in as went through security fairly quickly. There were two stages as acts would play on a small stage called Gone Shrimpn which was the amphitheater & the larger stage was called Butt City. There was plenty of food & loved that there was plenty of vegan options to boot. Burger Boogaloo is a short walk from the 19th St BART & was held in Mosswood Park. I was able to set up about 15 feet from the main stage to see Guitar Wolf. Guitar Wolf is a three piece from Japan that sound like the Ramones & also all sport black leather jackets. When they went on they were all wearing giant Godzilla masks. The lead singer opened a can of beer & downed it all through the mask. They took off the masks when they started to play. They had great stage presence & was kind of hilarious that they said thrice "San Francisco" as we were in Oakland. Their sound was heavy & they sang in Japanese counting off each song like the Ramones w/ the 1-2-3... The also covered the Who's version of "Summertime Blues". At one point the lead singer lifted up a fan in the audience onto the stage & gave him his guitar to play. Apparently the fan could play & they jammed out for a bit. The bassist & the lead singer both stage-dived into the crowd. Toward the end of the set the lead singer asked the crowd what is the tallest mountain in San Francisco? After the Guitar Wolf set filmmaker & author John Waters introduced Iggy Pop saying & I paraphrase, "Iggy Pop invented the stage-dive & at 70 looks better than Jim Morrison did in his prime. I had the pleasure of working w/ Iggy when he acted in my movie "Cry Baby". When Iggy was touring w/ Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age & the band he worked w/ on "Post Pop Depression" Iggy said he would only perform new songs off the album along w/ songs from the album "Lust for Life" that he was paying homage to the late David Bowie who he worked w/ during that period. He said he would not do Stooges songs as the other members of the Stooges have since died. I was surprised that Iggy started the show w/ the Stooges "I Wanna Be Your Dog" & a large portion of the front row where I was standing turned into one giant mosh pit. Iggy looked amazing at age 70 & during the first song stage-dived leaping head first into the audience. He did many of the Stooges best songs & highlights from his storied solo career including "The Passenger" & "Lust for Life". The only song he performed from his new album "Post Pop Depression" was "Gardenia". If you aren't familiar w/ the Stooges I suggest picking up their first three albums as they are classics. I thought I was too old for moshing yet moshed for almost the entire set & was an overall positive experience as it only got a bit rowdy a couple of times. It was hilarious that during the set Iggy said "San Francisco" as we were in the East Bay in Oakland. It was one thing for Guitar Wolf to not know where we were as they are from Japan yet quite funny that Iggy thought we were in San Francisco as we were in Oakland! This was my first time seeing Iggy & he delivered! Thanks to Total Trash Productions for putting Burger Boogaloo together as would love to try to come out for it again next year!

Held on the beautiful Kaiser Rooftop Garden, this event boasts an awards ceremony and an outdoor party featuring food samples, art displays, and vendors. SambaFunk was one of many local acts which included rappers focused on songs about climate change, DJs, and bikini models. The crowd was a wonderful mix of professionals in business attire, young hipsters, couples on dates, and groups of friends. Why only three stars? While the venue is beautiful, it does get hard to maneuver through the large crowd in the narrow walkways. And though it was advertised as all ages, we felt it was not a family-friendly event. There was nothing for our preschooler to do other than people-watch and try a few snacks. Then, she fell and scraped up her leg, abruptly ending my dancing for the evening.

Outspoken, talented, and smart, this troupe is quintessential SF and a main reason why this city is so awesome. The group operates as a collective, run by vote with members of different ages and cultural backgrounds. They write and perform shows that spotlight, explore, and challenge critical issues like low wages, labor rights, and corporate influence. Their performances combine social commentary, original music, and comedy to push for changes that help working people. By performing in parks without tickets, they bring theater directly to local neighborhoods. Catching their summer performance is an essential San Francisco experience that is not to be missed.

Time to get cultured! Undiscovered SF is an awesome event full of history, delicious food, fashion,…read moremusic, desserts, family fun, and not to mention- FREE! This is a monthly event (third saturday) of the month. Come hungry...there are several food vendors (including our favorite Senor Sisig), everything from tacos to burritos to adobo, garlic noodles and for those with a sweet tooth- mini donuts, frozen custard, macarons and bibingka. There is constant music featuring different djs, entertainment from singers to dancers, a family fun area for kids, karaoke, and shopping! I love supporting local businesses...shout out to Assembly Hall and the Sari Sari shop- they were our favorite stops here. Take your time here...walk around, check out the vendors and shops. Stop and check out the event list that includes times. Walk around several times, you might find something you may have missed the first time. We arrived here roughly around 430 pm. The event starts at 4. We had no issues entering, there were hardly any lines at all! Around the 6 pm hour, lines at the food vendors (specifically Senor Sisig and Jeepney guy, hookt donuts and frozen kuhsterd) were getting long. I can only imagine how long the lines get after 7 pm! Overall, the event is very chill, very cool, and one to definitely check out. Come hungry! Come willing to spend money if you want to take a few things home. The event is free, but please please, if you can, make a donation. ($1-$5 if preferred) Let's keep this event free! I would for sure come back. Hubby and I are planning to for the next event.
