We walked over at 3pm, knowing the concert began at 2pm with an opening act which we purposely missed, and entered at 23rd Av and Wawona entrance. Our tickets were scanned. Glancing around we decided to stay up in the tree area. We waited 45 minutes; then Patti appeared on stage. The sound system was very good even up in the trees. By 4:30pm it became nippy as there was no direct sunlight. It was nice to see Patti LaBelle, considered the Godmother of Soul live in concert.

My husband was still looking for parking while I went to retrieve our tickets from will call. I was already inside the building, standing near the entrance, when he came to the doorway. I simply wanted to hand him his ticket so it could be scanned and he could come inside to join me. As I tried to hand the ticket to him through the doorway, the employee checking tickets stepped in front of me and repeatedly told me that I could not leave the building and come back inside. I explained several times that I was not trying to leave I only wanted to hand my husband his ticket. However, she kept repeating the same statement without listening to what I was actually saying. After trying to explain the situation multiple times, I finally kept it simple and said, "I know. Can I just hand this ticket to him?" At that point, she seemed to understand, scanned his ticket, and allowed him to come inside. What made the interaction frustrating was not the policy itself, but the way it was handled. The employee came across as rude and dismissive, and I felt as though I was being treated like I had done something wrong when I was simply trying to give my husband his ticket. A little more patience and communication would have gone a long way. The theater itself was lovely, and we enjoyed the show, but the interaction at the entrance left a negative impression and could have been handled much more professionally.

At first we thought we would have been so high up and would not being able to see or hear the performers and the band very well but that was not the case. The only problem was that the chairs in the last row of the balcony were a little high and uncomfortable. Plenty of room to stand so we opted to stand for most of the event. For our next visit we will try to select Row A instead of Row B. Overall a great venue for a Jazz concert. We did not have anything to eat at the restaurant so I won't be able to comment on the food. All staff members we encountered were very helpful. If you are looking for a nice venue for a Jazz concert in San Francisco, this is the place. It's easily accessible by BART from the Civic Center station or Muni from the Van Ness Station.

Depending on the film, there could be a special menu. They previously would someone directly come to you when you order, but switched to mobile. I have a deep respect for the few surviving movie theaters, which is why it's disappointing that the Alamo in San Francisco has started to take much of the joy out of what should be a warm, fun experience. I completely understand the importance of respecting a film's start time. But the level of strictness has started to feel excessive. My partner and I arrived five minutes late to a movie a few weeks ago and were reprimanded by the person working at the front. We understood that we were late, but the coldness and severity of the interaction felt completely disproportionate to what had actually happened. It made an experience that should have been enjoyable feel unnecessarily unpleasant. The most frustrating part, though, is the tipping system. You have only 20 minutes after the film ends to edit your bill before a 20% tip is automatically added. But what exactly is that tip for? There is virtually no human interaction throughout the experience. You aren't greeted when you enter, no one checks in on you during the movie, and there's no server taking your order or providing traditional table service. You order your food through an app, and it's delivered to you in the dark. I'm happy to tip for good service, but automatically adding a 20% tip unless you catch it within a 20-minute window feels less like rewarding service and more like a system designed to make people pay a charge they may not have intended to leave. I really want to support movie theaters, especially independent and surviving theaters, and I genuinely want the Alamo experience to succeed. But lately, the combination of the overly rigid policies and the tipping system has made going to the movies feel less welcoming, less spontaneous, and ultimately less enjoyable.

Yet the other night (09/27/2026) when I went to see Melt-Banana, I had a very unsavory experience with the venue and staff. Though the bartenders were friendly, the price of drinks had gone up considerably. I didn't think much of it at the time since prices on everything are going up. Then the first act came on. Instantly, the volume that the soundperson decided to go with was actually PHYSICALLY painfully loud. I have intermittent tinnitus so I always wear earplugs. And not just foam earplugs - the more expensive, high quality ones. Even with that premium hearing protection in, the decibel level was unbearable. I ended up leaving the first act and going outside, asking my friends if it was louder or if I was imagining things. I don't drink or do drugs, so my judgement wasn't impaired. They both agreed that it seemed way loader than normal. I see all kinds of shows from death metal to EDM in big and small venues, and always with hearing protection. This was the first time I had to leave and go outside because of the volume. This is where it goes from simple negligence to downright rudeness: when I asked the front door people about whether or not my suspicions were correct, they simply laughed it off and said something along the lines of "Yeah, ever since lockdown stopped, we've just been pushing the limits of how loud we could get it." First of all, this is a lie - I've been to GAMH several times since 2021 and it has NEVER been this loud. Secondly, they all infantilized my concerns as if they were saying "man up and take it". They did not take my complaint the least bit seriously, let alone would they actually ask the sound table if they could dampen it a little bit. The second band came on and we went back in, hoping the first act was just a fluke. Nope. Same painful decibel level as the first act. Midway through Moon Destroys, my inner ears were actually hurting. Again, this was a first for me. I went back outside with my friends, voiced my concerns to the front door people and was just laughed at again. Note: I am not a fragile person by any stretch of the imagination. That the decibels broke me is pretty surprising; I've actually fallen asleep at concerts and night clubs a few times. My girlfriend and I left before Melt-Banana, the main act. I wrote an email the next day and called management. I still haven't heard anything back from them nor do I expect to based on my experience with that night's staff. I wouldn't be surprised if they do respond to this review or any of my other communications if they'll just tell me I'm SOL on a refund despite their negligence and then throw salt in the wound by telling me it was my fault. So there's 80 dollars gone. I will not be coming back here ever again if this is not resolved and my money reimbursed. Which is sad because I love this place.
