Great atmo, decent beer prices for LA. I'd come back here next time I visit the town.

So it's a dark and deep drinking spot with just a little bit of everything, but not too much. Some vintage Godzilla was playing this night. Dive bar but more for smarter folk, per Mr. bland!

    The bar at Cantor's

We came here last trip up, after eating at Cantor's, the local legend. The bar seems quite separate and we spent about three hours exchanging jokes and stories with James the bartender and a few others who wandered in. We had a great time even though it was the afternoon (day drinking is always fun) and there was no music. Just a great dive bar-relaxed vibe. Just what we were looking for between our hurried vacation events and I'll be back.

    So rad

It's attached to Canters Deli, so food is outstanding! Service adequate; ambiance is dive bar chic!

I came out…read moreto see a DJ friend perform (she sings too, and she's incredible), alongside another longtime LA musician I first saw back in 2018. It ended up being the perfect venue for a night of live local talent--intimate, moody, and full of character. The back room where the artists play? I was obsessed. The paint peeling from the burgundy ceiling and deep red walls in that perfectly imperfect way that tells you this place has history. Wallpaper panels edging the ceiling, cozy café tables mixed with booth-style benches and chaise lounge seating--it felt like an artsy little hideaway where musicians can actually breathe and audiences can really listen. Warm lighting, sexy shadows, and even a tiny bar tucked in back for busy nights. I loved the whole atmosphere. Up front, the full bar is its own vibe--neighborhood-bar energy but with cocktails that taste elevated. I had a Moscow Mule and a Cucumber Gimlet, and both were excellent. The fact that they only use fresh, organic fruit and juice really comes through. Crisp, bright, clean flavors. My bartender was super chill and spot-on with recommendations, which I always appreciate--I love when I can lean on someone's expertise and they absolutely nail it. Even the person checking me in for the performance was great--friendly, helpful, happy I was excited to support local artists. The whole staff just made the night feel easy. I genuinely hope I have another friend perform here, but honestly I'd come back regardless. I love high-end venues as much as anyone, but there is something so special about places like this--spaces with a little wear, a little history, a lot of soul, and a strong commitment to the artists who pass through. This is the kind of spot that keeps the LA creative scene alive.

The decor is retro and glitzy and makes you feel like you are stepping back in time into a world of neon. There was a decent amount of people there for a Thursday afternoon, but the noise level wasn't too loud. We could have conversations at a normal volume and not have to yell over each other. The bartender was very personable and able to keep up with everyone and didn't leave anyone waiting to get a drink. The jukebox is loaded with most every song you could want and we played our favorites in preparation for the concert.

This is a dive bar with a solid drinks selection. My wife ordered a Coke since she wasn't in the mood for anything alcoholic. There were some interesting characters day drinking, and it was great people-watching with lots of regulars. The interactions were priceless. The bartender asked a regular if he'd left his helmet, and when he showed it to him, the regular quipped, "My head is bigger." The helmet looked like a kid's size, and the guy did have a small head. It was a funny interaction in a room full of characters, like something out of "A Confederacy of Dunces." The bouncer checking IDs outside, sporting a Santa hat, noticed my wife's upcoming birthday and wished her a happy birthday. It was a really nice touch! We will definitely be back for drinks and to people-watch the interesting characters!

Now granted the word "gastronomic" and "Snakepit" are probably two concepts that shouldn't go together, but walking in we thought, how can somebody mess up a burger and a beer? Oh, how wrong we were. They can mess it up quite a lot, as it turns out. Both our orders were incomplete. My burger arrived with no bacon and hers no cheese or grilled onions as advertised, and what we were served was an awful-tasting risky endeavor, hastily assembled, leaving us both fearful of a questionable future with respect to the toilet. The fries were soggy, the burgers lukewarm and gross, the beers barely poured by an intermittently working tap system. This was not good food at nearly $30 a pop. For a dive bar which brags about it's pub style fare, this place missed the mark spectacularly. There's too much good food in LA at a lower price point to waste your time here. Hard pass on this one.
