    Sackville

I will never be returning to this location. So far have had…read moretwo horrible experiences with the staff there and I will not be going back for a third. Sunday I had purchased a inflatable cone for my dog at the Elmsdale location, the manager there had told me that if i brought it home and decided it didnt fit/ I changed my mind that I could bring it back as long as it haddent been blown up for full credit, and if I had blown it up then I could get a store credit (which I was fine with). I had left the Elmsdale location and on the way to sackville had decided to return it. It haddent been out of the box, the seal wasn't broken, and I still had the original receipt. Since the sackville location was closer to me than going back to Elmsdale I had decided to go there. I walked into the location being completely ignored by the two workers chatting, looked at the collars and then went to the counter and politely asked if I could return it. The woman who I was speaking to was very rude and told me that she could only give me store credit even though I said I was speaking to the manager of the Elmsdale location. The worker (Anna) was very rude, I had asked to speak to the manager when I had begun to get frustrated, and she had said she was the manager (come to find out, she was the assistant manager, therefore lying about her position). I asked to get in touch with the owner, which I could tell Anna's attitude was becoming worse and she said she would write down my name and phone number and that the owner would give me a call (still haven't received a call). I left upset and drove back to Elmsdale to return for a full refund, and even they couldnt believe that Sackville Pet Valu wouldnt return it. The Sackville location is the closest to my home, I normally buy my dogs food here, but from now on I will be making the drive to the Fall River or Elmsdale location, unless something changes at this location. Customer service is lacking.

Funny though, I was really looking forward to what this PetSmart had to offer. Being from the states I'm used to the large warehouse feeling of most places. But the difference is the Petsmart where I'm originally from was less than a 5 minute drive. Now you really have to travel out just to get there and if you're just going to see if they carry your brand of food only to find out they don't it can feel like a waste of time. Luckily I had a friend in tow that was looking for a new cat tree so it wasn't a total waste of time for me. As with most warehouse type shopping experience everything is going to be slightly cheaper and you'll probably have lots of options to choose from but again if you're just going for one thing: Meh. There wasn't anyone there (customer wise) when we were perusing for cat tree's. I don't think this particular location has caught on just yet so the employees seemed overly eager to help us. Two of us vs five of them = too much customer service. But they seemed nice and really I don't blame them if they are having to stare at the windows all day at the empty parking lot. If they put a Costco out there, business would probably be mad hopping. Get your 50 pounds of ground beef for you and your 150 pound bag of food for your four-legger!

Other than that, the store is great! They are very welcoming of all breeds of dogs, which is nice. Price wise it can be expensive, but if you follow their social media and have signed up for the rewards card the sales can be AWESOME!

I love this store and it deserves all the stars it can get!…read more I've only started coming to this store since my mother bought a dog for herself. But I'm trying to be the good uncle to her dog and bring it treats. I can't say enough good things about it but I'll try to keep it brief. Environment - The store is organized well and easy to get around, even with a pet. They are using all the space they can to have as much product in there as possible. It's on the pricey end in some sections and then in others, it's more than reasonable. Some of the treats I want to eat! Staff - Very knowledgeable. They also know what brands are popular, what ones aren't etc...They do have a return policy if your animal doesn't like the food. Another reviewer noted having an issue with this return policy but I've never seen that at all. I'm 100% confident they return. Conclusion - If you have a pet and you love them, you need to stop by here. They have very healthy food, and not-so-healthy fun food, they know their stuff and you'll find stuff you may not have seen before. Like a snack you can fit a pill into so your dog will take its medication! I might be the last person on earth to discover that but it's amazing! So simple! Go there now.

Did I just find my new neighbourhood pet shop? After my half-hour long first visit last week, I…read moredefinitely think so! Conveniently tucked in between my house and my favourite dog park (Shubie park), this shop was built as a custom extension off a video rental, pizza place, ice cream joint combination dealie on Montebello and is really quite lovely on the inside! Built around a lovely (and big!) faux-tree, the interior is worth a look whether you have a Fido at home or not. All your pet supply table stakes are on hand: tons and tons of food brands (plus the offer to order anything in that you don't see on the shelves), treats, toys, leashes, collars, sweaters, vitamins and supplements, even cookbooks for home-cooking for your pooch's palate! Now, I could easily stop there and land at a solid three-star but it's the added steps that this crew has taken to enhance the community that really push into four, borderline five-star territory. This I know, again, because I insisted on asking them 127 questions while I was there. Here's the scoop: - They custom-make 'Shubie Snacks' with Kathleen from Tailwagrrrs (my favourite doggy daycare), with all the proceeds going to maintain the dog park at Shubie. I think they mentioned they've raised some $30,000 since August? That sounds crazy...but I'm pretty sure that's what they said. Are you a regular at Shubie Park? You know that gazebo and all the brand new benches? Yeah. Planet Paws built those. - The owner is seriously educated in the pet nutrition (for example, did you know some of the biggest brands of pet food are made by Mars and Nestle?) and clearly very passionate about helping his customers. Long story short: one of my dogs is a delicate flower who can't eat anything without full-body meltdowns. The owner has given me tons to think about when it comes to his health including some options that would basically keep my money out of their hands (non-kibble/store-bought diets, etc.). For him, the health of my pooch is more important. And that's pretty awesome. - In addition to all the mainstream food options, Planet Paws also carried a huge freezer full of raw meals. I won't get into the whole nutritional side of why that's important but will instead leave it at them supporting other local pet food suppliers rather than sticking exclusively with the big corporations.

Sadly we did previously have another dragon, Phoenix, but she passed away. In Halifax there are 2 (1/2) vet clinics that handle exotics. Fairview Animal Hospital, and the Sackville Animal Hospital. Poor Nixie tried to lay eggs one day and well things did not go well. We needed to take her to a vet and right away! Naturally this happened on a Friday night around 11pm, and I had been previously told that the emergency vet clinic did not handle reptiles (this was misinformation), so we waited until the morning and frantically called first thing. We were able to get in to see Dr. Benjamin the exotic specialist within an Hour. Although things didn't work out for Nixie all of the staff were extremely warm and welcoming. We walked in with our tupperware container and the second they saw us they said "Oh that must be Phoenix", and you could tell they all genuinely cared about us, our lizard, and wanted to do everything in their power to help. Some of the interns who were working there stayed with her the entire time she was there, trying to make sure she ate, that her distention was properly cared for and that she was warm and as comfortable as possible. Unfortunately Dr. Benjamin was not going to be in on Sunday and Nixie needed continued care so they did all the necessary paperwork, faxed it and called ahead to the emergency Vet Clinic, so that we could transfer Nixie there (which also saved us some money as they did not have to do a full exam and assess her injury or develop a treatment plan). About a week later we received a card in the mail signed by all the staff thanking us for choosing the Sackville Animal Hospital, and then about a week after we had called them to tell them that Nixie had passed away, we received a sympathy card from them with personalized notes from all the staff. Not just signatures but real notes. I have taken many pets to many vets and have NEVER felt like the vet clinic cared so much about the animals and owners. I would very highly recommend the Sackville Animal Hospital, and will continue to make the 45 minute drive to have my dragons cared for, rather than go to the closer exotic vet because the staff are so fantastic!
