Love this BYOB Afghani resto. Yummy, unique, hearty and cozy. Perfect for a cold winter night. Get the table d'hote- it's worth it since you'll get to try a soup or salad, an appetizer, a main, dessert and tea or coffee. Just realized I didn't get my tea (I was just there last night. I loved the mashaba soup, the mantoo and the filet mignon main. So filling. The dessert is light and yummy. Kind of like a milky pudding. Service was amicable. They opened our bottles of wine, brought water when we needed it, and a fresh basket of Afghani bread with 3 dips before the appetizers. Worth it!!

First time here and left me wanting to come back again. Delicious little spot filled with flavour. I loved the soup and the salad. They give you enough rice to feed a family of 4 but it's so flavourful that you want to be leaving any behind. Great byow little spot

This was place is a gem. Great atmosphere. It's byob and there's a store a few meters away for some wine or beer you can bring here if you want. That store also has some non alcoholic options which is nice. The spices were on point, the bread for the table is warm and have beautiful dipping sauces. The plates are large and we recommend ordering a few things for everyone to share.

Montrealers are no strangers to Khyber Pass, as the exterior of the restaurant was always a show stopper (which has been deemed a fire hasard unfortunately, by the city) I have been here quite a few time throughout more than a decade now and everything remained the same. It's a tight space, cozy and more on the darker side. You can bring your own wine, in the summer you can sit in terrace in the back and it is so cute The service is hit or miss depending on who you get that day but it is mostly very friendly and courteous. (We once had a really spaced out waiter that it became comical after 10 mins, we never had anyone who was rude) I usually go for the lamb or the vegetarian plate. The soup is all good but I think their show stopper is the lamb and the aubergine. I recommend his for a nice discovery dinner out w friends or family :)

Attention rice lovers!!! You need to make a pit stop here :) If you order the Mourg Kebab (chicken brochette), it'll be served on a lovely bed of 3 colored basmati rice: white rice seasoned with cumin, green rice made with coriander sauce and brown rice seasoned with saffron. The grilled chicken is yellow (looks like tumeric color) is sooo juicy and delicious...the only negative about it is that there's only 1 kebab! My Kabuli Palaw (lamb shank) was equally delicious. Tender and fall off the bone good. Beware if you don't like fatty clumps cause there is a little bit. Easy enough to separate out. The lamb shank is buried in a bed of yummy brown rice, sprinkled with shredded carrots and plump raisins. My friend and I really liked the Afghan styled side of salad--simple, lemony, fresh and punchy. Upon arrival, the waiters were joking with us and welcoming. When we asked about the cups of sauce in the center of the table, our waiter deadpans that it's Afghan shooters. We pause and burst out laughing and then he explained the yogurt and peppers sauces. They gave us basket of warm Afghan flatbread and we nibbled on it while waiting to order. After our meal we each opted for a cardamom green tea as there's only one choice of dessert, the rosewater pudding. Since neither of us like rosewater, we passed on dessert.

Friendly staff & cosy interior. Came here for dinner & enjoyed the plov a lot The mantu however was alright. I've had better.

Little gem on Duluth street. It was on my list forever and finally had the chance to make it. I have never tried Afghani food before but very familiar with Persian food and have to say that they are quite similar. I was there in a Friday night and it was packed. We went for the table d'hôte and basically had the soup which was quite good, the dumplings weren't anything to brag about. My favourite part of the meal was the korma chalaw which is lamb shank in a tomato sauce which came with 3 kinds of basmati rice spiced differently and salad. It really hit the spot! I am not a big pudding fan so the desert didn't quite do it for me sadly enough. Next time, I would for sure go with the lamb and basmati rice trio. For all you BYOB lovers, check this place out if you haven't been at least once! PS: don't forget to RSVP ahead as it gets quite packed on weekends...

This place was such a hidden gem! When I originally walked by the place seemed deserted, but the pictures on yelp made it look amazing and I took a chance. I asked to sit outside and it was a beautiful garden area that was full of other diners. The service was great and the Kabuli Palaw with chicken was one of the most delicious things I have ever eaten. I would not recommend the Teka Kabob since it was bland but everything else was delicious! I will definitely be returning on my next trip to Montreal!

Tried it for the first time a few weeks ago and I am so impressed. The food is so good and such good value. The table d'hôte is worth every penny. The service was good but a bit slow at times. They also don't accept MasterCard which I find strange. But I would go back in a heartbeat. The food was so delicious and the portions were very big. Their rice with carrots and raisins is the best rice I've had. The house soup is delicious and refreshing. The lamb melts in your mouth.

Tomato Lamb dish - looks meh, but tastes sooo simmerly good!

I had no idea what to expect. I waited a fair amount for my dish. No table service with a plastic tray to bring it to your table. I was surprised how much food I got. Excellent dish with a savoury beef stew. I got a large portion of rice and delicious salad. The fries were from frozen and they were fine. I even got bread to sop up the gravy. I was pleasantly surprised. Don't be in a hurry and have a large appetite. Enjoy

Memories of food can linger on for years and years…read more It was January 1st 2005 and I don't remember exactly where I was (Queens or Bronx and still a bit out of it from the night before), I finally had Afghan food for the 1st time. What I remember the most is the flavorful rice, 3 colors of rice and the delish kebabs. I've been on the lookout for that since then here to no success. Our Afghan selection very limited here. When I passed by the Marché Central area, I saw a new addition to the admittedly crowded restaurant field. I had to try it and it delivered plenty of memories. The kofta kebab was Persian style but lacked the flavor I found from my usual faves like Kebab Sera. The filet mignon was delicious but only 4 pieces. There was a large salad with a creamy dill dressing but the higlight again was the rice. Half a large plate might seem like overkill but every bite was perfect. Large basmati grain with an indecipherable taste. You just have to try it. The plates are about $13 to $15 and I waited about 20 minutes evenduring lunch even though the place was empty. In an area where workers don't have much time or money it might be best to order ahead and get the daily specials for $10 with a drink. I have to mention the decor and scale of the place, it is gigantic compared to the shish taouk places that dot the city so it's worth it to eat in. There seem to be a reserved section where you can eat on the carpets as well as a terrace. And did I mention Glass Bottled Pepsi made with real sugar. I will definitely go back and see if what else to try, I really want to give it my hard to achieve 5 stars.

Fortunately, they just recently opened up their doors here in Laval and right on my daily commute path. I gotta say they did a good job attracting people from the outside of the restaurant with their chic decor and enough lighting to grab your attention. Specially with that big "Halal" neon sign in your face. I dunno, mixing religion with anything else is really not my thing plus stating the obvious like a peacock? I personally don't like that no matter what religion it is. Each to his own, keep your faith in your heart and to yourself please. Does the general public need these things shown off, flaunted and make the rest of us the none halal people feel alienated or welcomed in your establishment? Specially on businesses which their sole purpose is making money! My reaction: shaking my head..... then sticking with the main subject: Whatever, take my money. Where's the food? Back to the main topic. One word: Very good! I was hesitant between the Herath kebab and Mantou. Went with the first one only to test the quality/taste of the beef and chicken since both come on the same plate. Very nice choice. Good marinade, good taste and cotton soft meat all with a reasonable price and ample portion. I am definitely coming back here and trying their other awesome looking dishes. I have a feeling they're as good if not better than what I just had. The place is very clean, simple yet trendy, flavours of the east and west mixed well all over the place and then topped with good background Afghani music that matches the food cooked on charcoal you're consuming. Good job and wish them success at this difficult corner of this street. Lots of other businesses before them had come, tried and failed, many times that I've lost count. I'm bored seeing that kind of unpleasantness. Hope they'll stay here for a long time, prosper and become a permanent fixture. Good luck!

Service: always consistent and superb service. The people behind the counter are super friendly and care to give their utmost best service! They are now running around with over 5-10 people in the kitchen as it's quite busy and they have many people working to get their food orders up.. fairly quick and quality is always there! Their rice , lamb, eggplant dish and everything probably on their menu is so rich in flavour I bet anything you try will leave a mark in your mouth!!! You can easily leave full with just 2 entrees their portions are Huge and generous. However, having tried many a Lamb Karahi, I was not impressed with the quality of the meat and the taste. The pieces of lamb were large and mainly fat/bones - not what you would expect of a traditional lamb karahi. The Palak Paneer and Chicken Seekh Kebab were 100% reheated and tasted like food that had gone bad. The Chicken Karahi was excellent. Tasted fresh, flavourful and authentic. Fish pakoras were good and fresh. Tea was authentic Chai. The server was chirpy and very helpful. She was interactive and her excitement was contagious. Part of the reason this rating is three stars and not two is because of her! The restaurant was clean and comfortable.
