Great friendly service! Very helpful with your questions like which is spicy and non spicy, which has more flavor and what's a fan favorite. I went to 3 different locations for beef jerky and this was the cheapest by $2-$3. The spicy beef jerky and spicy squid that was recommended to me, my family loved it! Will definitely be coming back if I'm in town again! read more

Great selection of beef jerky and dried fish! Laid back spot that with great service that lets you try everything before you buy it. It's by the pound and can be expensive but it's worth it. No vibes ambiance wise but really good. read more

I wish I can give this business a negative star. Their business hours said it opens at 10am on Sunday and we arrived at 11:00am and the doors are still closed and it dark inside so it obvious no one is inside to open it anytime soon. We did wait for 30 minutes and make numerous call to the number listed in the store and only get an answering machine. This really such being an out of towner and want to get some jerky for friends back home. You're better off taking business elsewhere. Update: The moment we decided to leave the store open so we walk in anyway. When asked why is the store not open at 10am as posted, all we got when "yeah we just came late..." . Seriously not even an apology and such. read more

We ordered some Xi Muoi online from here to be shipped to our house. When it arrived, the packaging was damaged with a label from USPS stating that it was received in damaged condition and it looked like someone had opened it already. When we checked the package, we only received 1lb of our 2lb order. We called the business asking for a refund of the portion of the order that we did not receive and the owner was super rude and essentially told us it was not his problem. When we pointed out that their refund policy on their website says that we need to notify them within 3 days of receiving a damaged package to receive a refund - he said he doesn't know anything about that policy (even though it is listed in their website). Shady and rude business...would not recommend ordering from this place. read more

Kho Bo So 1 translates to #1 Beef Jerky. Like a kid in a candy store, I go directly to the left wall where all of the jerky varieties await. Let's see, there is curry beef jerk, traditional jerky, spicy jerky, shredded cuttlefish, crispy dried "crabs", dried squid, etc. and what's nice is you are free to try a piece before ya buy. When a decision is made, it is sold by the pound. Typically, premium jerk costs around $20-23/lb! On the center aisle and the other wall there are sweet treats like dried fruit, candies, jellies, gummies, you name it! Oh, and they also sell great cans of pate'! Every trip to Houston includes a stop here, ending with a minimum $100 spent to take home goodies for friends and family. read more

I'm ranking this below average due to cleanliness and service quality. The beef jerky is mid grade quality with several different level of spiciness and saltiness. The flooring and back area could definitely use a deep cleaning as the wear and tear of time are showing. The service is horrible and the largest reason for the poor rating. The staff are rude and you wonder if they really want your business. I wouldn't come again. There are many other places with delicious jerky and dry food snacks read more

This is the second time I've been here. First time I went there I bought the kho bo don (crispy beef jerky) which was really crispy however this second time it was stale and slightly soggy. The cost is a bit steep; $30/lb. read more

Service was horrible but I still liked their treats. Not anymore, I just opened one of the bags of xí muoi không hot and guess what I found ? A Bird( or Chicken) Feather in my bag ( I don't even know which feather it is). It is so disgusting!what a waste of money. read more

Must try: beef jerky, the mini dried crabs No California relative to bring you beef jerky? No problem! Get the best Vietnamese jerky at Kho Bo So 1, located in the Kim Son center in Chinatown. Their name translates into #1 beef jerky and it's true! They have a plethora of dried fruit, squid, shredded pork, variations of flavor on their original beef jerky, and... Mini dried crabs. These little crabs are crunchy, a little sweet and have a little kick from the Chili. Everything in the store goes great with your favorite beer so you really can't go wrong. Just let the boss man or boss lady know which one you want and the amount (they price per pound) and they will package it for you. They do take credit cards :) read more

Their dried fruits are delicious! I got a pound of kiwi and a pound of mango and I only spent 17$ which is a good deal considering how much they give. Customer service for people serving me and my husband were nice overall. read more

Yikes, I easily drop a huge chunk of $$ here every time I visit because they offer such variety that I can't resist getting treats for my family also, and I have a very large family! My favorites so far are the tamarind candies, the salted plums, and the beef jerky. They have a variety of each kind but the tamarind I chose are soft with a little bit of sweet and a good hint of spicy. The salted plums are super soft (not overly dry like most preserved fruits), white, and nicely balanced for both saltiness and sweetness. The beef jerky, here I get a little bit funny. The fruit stuff is for my mom(s) but the beef jerky is all for me. They have about every kind imaginable and for all levels of spiciness, I especially enjoy their beef liver jerky. Yum. They have a wide range of preserved, salted, spiced, pickled, or sweetened fruits. Many of the fruits I have pending on my "must try" list. Mangoes! Persimmon! Guava! I-don't-even-recognize-that-fruit-name! And the owner is a very nice lady who encourages I try out any item I want, a good sales lady knows when she's found an easy mark :) Some of the items seem pricey for the per lb price, but do you know how long a lb of preserved, dried, salted, or jerked product will last? I will usually buy a lb of several different items just to make the price calculation easier (on myself), then go home and divey up the goodies between different branches of the family. read more

I love in north houston but I'll drive all the way to china town for some of their yummy jerky! My husband loves thier jerky so we stock up everytime we go. read more

Loved the jerky and the sweet fruit, was looking for a specific kind of jerky but left with something better

The lady that helped us was very patient. I am new to Vietnamese jerky. She did not try to rush us. which was great. The quality is better than what I get in Seattle. I would definitely recommend giving this place a go if you're in Houston. read more

We love getting our snacks from here. We went in to buy some jerky and owner noticed my hubby's sore throat and gave us some mandarin skin to help soothe his throat, and didn't even charge us for it. He didn't have to do that but what a nice gesture. read more

This place is awesome! The store's name roughly translates to #1 Dried Beef Jerky lol. But anyway, they sell loads of dried goodies. Jerky (squid - mild, medium, spicy, cuttlefish, beef, etc), dried candies, dried fruits, and more. The lady who was running the store was adorable. They offer free samples of anything you wanted and you must purchase a minimum of half a pound of your choice. However, half a pound of good, fresh beef jerky doesn't last [me] long! I wanted to buy a lot more food, but it would've been way too easy to spend a lot more than I need to here. read more

Top notch customer service compared to the OTHER "Kho bo" place in Houston! Not sure if it was the owner lady that served us today but she let us try everything and anything, even the ones we didn't even ask to try. Our kids loved her! She treated them like children in her own family, let them try anything they wanted. Needless to say, we came out with over $100 worth of treats for our friends and family back home (and lil free extra for our lil ones)! Quality is about the same as the other place, but service and flexibility to buy in any quantity is exceptional! Don't even bother going anywhere else in Houston for Kho Bo and dried treats. read more

If you are looking for a place that sells beef jerky, this is the place to go. This is the first time I had ever been to a beef jerky store, and WOW! this place has a very welcoming atmosphere and is super clean. They have an enormous variety of beef jerky of all different spices and tastes, a bit overwhelming though. I tried out a sample of beef jerky and GEEZ! it was spicy. Felt like my tongue was on fire! but lucky there were other kinds of beef jerky I opted for. read more

This place reminds me of a place when I lived in Cali. I really like it. They have lots of variety and you can get a quarter of pound of the product. The guy working was very nice and let us try everything we wanted and even recommended other items to us. I will be back here on my next trip to Houston. And maybe even place a order from them to ship it to me. read more

I was on my way to get some tapioca with some friends when I noticed this new store here. I decided to go in and was welcomed warmly by the clerk. Best jerky place outside of California and Vietnam. The people are very nice and they take cards, which is a big plus since we were visiting the area. They're very helpful and will let you try anything and everything from tamarind, to spicy, to squid, and everything in between. Each time I go, I end up spending 50-60 easily. read more

Turns out they did have the dried green mangoes. I asked the wrong person. I've been back twice since,

This is the place to go for authentic Vietnamese beef jerky and every snack food imaginable. It is super clean and everything is in neat rows of large candy jars and bins. It looks like a candy store but here you will find some exotic and delicious pickled and candied fruit, all kinds of fresh seasoned beef and deer jerky from lemongrass to spicy chile pepper jerky. I popped in after eating next door at Crawfish and Noodles. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for delicious jerky for snacks or for a nice Vietnamese papaya salad. I left with several pounds. It's hard to find jerky this good outside of Cali...not anymore. Yay!! read more

It is not good anymore!! I just bought 1lb of lemon grass beef jerky, some of them tasted ok but most of them tasted like it is old (oil taste when it gets old). I don't like the service either; the way they talk are not friendly. They don't sell unless at least 1/2 lb and up and you can't mix and match even though they are the same price. No return even it's bad and they don't put expiration day on them either. I guess that's how they make money. I am not coming back anymore. read more

If there were a HIGHER rating, I would give it. This Jerky is a perfect 10! I am a native Jerky raised gal and nothing I have ever tasted in Jerky world can come close! Why I love the Viet cultural experience. They understand how to preserve their culture and influence through fusion many other cultures. Fantastic and my new favorite food product. Thank you Hho Bo! Well worth every penny as the quality of ingrediets shows! read more

Really good beef jerky. Just a fair warning. So good that I lost track of how many pounds I purchased and got charged for the wrong amount. I got myself various flavors each of 1/4 a pound totaling to 1 1/4 pounds but paid for 1 1/2 pounds. My fault for not doing the math on front end...got a bit too excited read more

Best place for Beef Jerky and dried Asian fruits. I like it because there is no minimum amount that you have to buy. You can mix and match as long as the price of the products are the same. My kids love the colorful candies. The French products were nice too. I got some for the in laws in a basket since I didn't know what to get them. Service was great, not pushy like other places. I definitely visit again next time I'm in town. read more

This place is seriously BEEF JERKY HEAVEN. From extra sweet to seriously spicy, they had it all! I'm a meat person, so I know when there's good meat. This place is seriously delicious! You won't regret buying from here. Even if you're unsure which beef jerky to buy, they give great advice on what you might like and will let you sample them! When I bought my beef jerky, I got this cute little bag to go along with it. So cute! An extremely clean place that has all sorts of fried foods and beef jerky? What can be even better?! I will surely go here again to buy more beef jerky! Especially the shredded ones! I LOVE MEAT (: read more
