Great chicken at a truck stop? You betcha!…read more My parents live 5 miles south of this hidden gem on Highway 65. For years, they have been calling in take-out orders or just driving up to get some of the best broasted chicken in Northern Iowa. So that's what we did on Father's Day. Picked up three breasts for less than $8, and took them home to eat. Add a few side dishes, and you are good to go! There's a small dining area inside, so if you are on the road, take a break and grab some chicken. It's moist and delicious! Just don't smoke on the "premise" (per the handwritten sign), and you should be OK!

Oh my gosh!!! The bones just fell out! The meat was so tender and the BBQ had the perfect about of sweetness!! I will for sure be back for the ribs!!! The mashed potatoes were ok. The interior is sterile, but at the same time a bit messy. It isn't the most welcoming space and could use an upgrade for individuals to dine in. The strips were crisp, but I wouldn't say they were "crunchy" crispy. The chicken meat was moist and tender, but I did think most of the flavoring came from the comeback sauce and the spice coated on the strip, but nonetheless when eaten all together it was a morish piece of friend chicken. The batter was not too oily either. The fries were battered and very crispy with a soft fluffy interior, and the pickles were acidic and refreshing in between each bite. For the price of $13, it was filling and a good bang for the buck. Not the best fried chicken I've had but very solid. Shout out to the cashier who also recognized my brother after he had just been here a couple weeks prior since he had ordered the exact same thing.

It felt like a special spot, and the booth seemed to quiet the dining room noise a bit. My companions had worried they weren't dressed up enough, but the atmosphere was comfortable and they were perfectly fine. Our server was great--friendly, fun, and attentive. She asked what brought us in and liked hearing about my restaurant project. I let her choose my second mocktail, and she picked the Cranberry Ginger Bubbler. I enjoyed both that and my Blueberry Lavender Lemon Drop. They were pretty drinks, and the Lemon Drop came in the cutest little glass. My companions tried the Pumpkin Spice White Russian and the Dragon Burst and enjoyed their drinks, too. We started with the Calamari Fritti, which got mixed reactions at our table. One person liked it and enjoyed one of the sauces; another thought the breading needed something more. They both tried the vegetables served with it, too. I also had the French Onion Soup. It was nice and cheesy, and the broth had a good flavor, though I would've liked it a little bolder. It wasn't my favorite French onion soup, but I enjoyed it. My companions both ordered Chicken Alfredo and liked it. One finished his entire plate, which is a sure sign he enjoyed it, and said he especially likes Parmesan-based sauces. I finally tried a Tomahawk Steak. It was tender and tasted good, and the long bone looked cool on the serving board. I just wish they had brought it out whole before cutting it. A lot of the pieces were fatty, and I finished the steak myself without any trouble even though it was described as one to share. The Mac and Cheese side was okay, but I thought it could use a little more seasoning. Next time I'd probably order a different cut of steak. I had hoped to try the Baked Alaska, but they were out, so we shared Chocolate Cake instead. The slice was huge--I could see it coming from across the room! It was rich and good, though a little dry. I'd go back, although it's a drive for us, and I'd try another steak or something else on the menu.
