I hadn't been to KFC in along time. So, my expectations were low, but I was pleasantly surpised. As for first impressions, this location looks like it is recently renovated. Everything from the counter tips to the soda fountain looked modern and new. There was ample seating, although a few of those seats were occupied by bums. I made an order to pickup. So the cashier just took my name and said it wasn't ready yet. After about 10 minutes my order was up, which included 3 of there $5 specials. They forgot the sauces, so another clerk loaded me up very generously. Now I was expecting greasy and salty chicken, but everything from the extra crispy chicken parts to the chicken tenders tasted just right. Although the side mashed potatoes and fries were infant-sized, they hit the spot. Besides the presence of a few undesirable people hanging out there with unpleasant body odor that would ruin anyone's appetite, when I needed to access the locked bathroom there were no available employees to be found. Nevertheless, this spot is definitely a winner. Popeyes was my number one spot, but this made KFC a strong contender for me now. Embarrassed to even be writing this review, but sometimes you just get a craving! I hadn't had KFC in YEARS but decided that was what I wanted for dinner last night. We ordered from uber eats, a fairly straightforward process. However when the food came, parts were missing. There was one biscuit instead of two, there was no sauce (which I had to select as a required option and then was looking forward to). Additionally, I got an iced tea and it was undrinkable. Too sweet and not your regular brisk or anything I've ever tried before. In terms of the food we ordered, we had the popcorn chicken, fries, a chicken burger, a biscuit, and mashed potatoes with gravy. I actually thought the food was ok. Nothing special (not that I was expecting it to be) but also wasn't completely satisfied after. Hit or miss here. It all depends on the employees working that day. I've been here several times for my standard bucket of grilled chicken and wedges. It all starts at the drive thru. I usually get a rude unhappy employee taking my order but on occasion I have experienced the sweetest. You must always check your order before you leave. In many occasions my order was incomplete or the wrong type of chicken. I have experienced burnt chicken and extremely tiny pieces of dry chicken. Pulled up to the drive thru to be informed they were "out of everything." No offer of anything that could be in there (drink, refrigerated side items, etc, just nothing at all) This was both surprising and aggravating to me. Upon looking inside it was obvious that they just wanted to begin closing up early as the doors were locked and the gates were already pulled down. So this effectively wasted my time and gas to travel to this location, because whoever is working doesn't want to work basically. Do not bother to stop here. Like other reviews I too have been here an hour before closing and they were "out" of everything. Legitimately told there was nothing for me to order. Writing the review though because last week I attempted the drive thru and left disgusted. I sat there at the microphone for 9 minutes (I had my stop watch on because I was counting someone's breaths per minute who was in the car) and there was no car in front of me. At this point a car had pulled into the lane and was at the speaker. I didn't bother pulling back around because this young lady's facial expressions and the disrespectful way she was speaking to me let me know all I needed to. I wouldn't trust them to make my food if someone paid me AND these have to be absolute low-life's that work there. First of all, being the foodie that I am, I am embarrassed that I am here doing a review for KFC. But the boyfriend said his kids had never experienced KFC and it was time to take them there for the experience. So we zigzagged into the heart of Jersey City - quite a rough looking neighborhood - and finally landed at the home of fried chicken. It took a while for the order to come up (not that their parking lot was full or anything. I could swear their front door sign said they took AMEX, alas I wound up having to use my debit. That always pisses me off. I used to love the extra crispy recipe as a kid - they don't make it anymore. Now you can select from "original" and "grilled". We opted for the "classic". I was bummed that my child favorite was no longer available. (Just goes to show you how long it's been since I've been to a KFC). No matter, our food delivered we zipped home to indoctrinate the youngsters in the American Institution of KFC. We get home and pull off the paper top from the bucket. My partner says, "What's this?" as he pulls out a piece of the soggiest looking chicken I've ever seen in my life. The skin looked like it had been sitting in something moist. Ick, ick, ick. Meat fell off of the bones. You'd think this was a good thing, but not in this instance I pull out the other items. Bisquets? Check. Coleslaw? Check. Corn on the cob? Check. Mashed potatoes and gravy? Not to be seen. Instead we somehow wound up with mac and cheese. I know both start with the letter "M" but I don't see how that one got screwed up. The next horror was the corn on the cob. It was disgustingly overcooked that it was literally mush on a stick. Barely edible. Thank god the kids didn't notice. In the bag was a single napkin and three forks. Hmm...someone's got a bit of a counting error. I looked for my receipt and it was no where to be found. The cashier didn't hand one to us when I'd signed so I'd assumed that my receipt was "in the bag". This KFC pales in comparison to any KFC I've ever been to. The chicken and corn were repulsive. Bisquits, overly salty. The best part of the meal as the cole slaw, which isn't saying much. If you're jonesing for friend chicken, stay away from this place. It's just horrid. A bullet proof vest might not be a bad idea - it will blend well with the bullet proof glass that they have in the take-out window. As often as I've seen bullet proof glass counters inside many KFC stores, this is the first time I've seen it in the drive through. That being said, they are generally pretty polite, and the food is decent... sometimes super yummy, and other times just tolerable. We stopped by this KFC on Communipaw on a Saturday afternoon when the waffle chicken sandwich's return was featured. I had problems communicating with the worker taking my order and her Island accent. I'm NY born and raised so my English is excellent. Of course, our order was wrong which the manager eventually corrected but not without words from the worker. Our order was made "to go" even though I said, "to stay". When I asked the same worker for some plates, she had to check and said they didn't have anymore. We proceeded to eat our food from the boxes. I was told, "we don't have extra" and not even allowed to pay for an extra which I offered to do. I ordered for delivery via Grubhub. I must admit that I was scared when placing my order due to the reviews but I had cravings for the original KFC chicken. So I ordered. To my surprise, My order arrived on time and the food was hot, well packed and I received everything I ordered. The chicken was juicy and delicious. I also have had bad experiences in this restaurant using the thru drive. Usually the chicken is dry or they give me small pieces. Once I got 5 small wings in an order of 8 pieces. From what I see, it all depends on which employees are working at that time, some are good and others are very bad. This location needs help and the corporate must intervene.
