The decor is very in your face American diner and it was quite loud and echoey but was spacious and clean with lovely big booths along one wall. We started to order our food and quickly realised we needed some help with the menu! Our server was lovely and explained that burgers come plain and you can add as many of as few toppings as you wanted for free (think Subway for burgers!). I went for the Bacon Cheeseburger and added crispy onions, ketchup, lettuce, tomatoes, pickle....you get the idea! Whilst the food is served quickly akin to fast food, the prices are higher, with my burger costing £8.50. The soft drinks are served as a bottomless cup (for £2.50 I think) and if it's made by Coca Cola they sell it which gives you a choice of over 100 drinks!! You self serve your drink from one of two machines and given how long it took me to browse the choices, I can imagine this might cause a bit of a queue at busier times. I enjoyed my burger - the toppings were the best bit, I particularly liked the bacon and the cheese - but the burger patty was quite ordinary. Given the number of burger restaurants in Glasgow (where I used eat my burgers) it's hard not to compare and for me Five Guys just isn't a patch on a Bread Meats Bread type burger. The chips were good, crunchy, super salty and cooked skin one, they were delicious. And I found lots of drinks I really liked, the cherry and vanilla coke is good!!!! All the staff I spoke to were lovely, a number offered to help out, with one bringing a fab high chair and crayons for A (even if bringing crayons for an 8 month old did make me laugh a bit, all he wanted to do was eat them!!) and there were a lot of staff. One mentioned that the lunch service had been crazy busy so I'm guessing that's why there were so many. I'm just not sure our bill for 2 burgers, one chips & 2 sodas at £27 was great value for the quality of our meal.

Also the free peanuts! A great idea and tasty snack whilst you wait for your order! I also love the burger itself, made fresh in front of you with more topping choices than you can process all included in the price. I usually go for a small burger, don't think everyone realises it's the same size as the large but just has one patty instead of two! Perfect for me! Small things that annoy me, only ketchup as a dip option for chips (surely Mayo should be as standard now!?) they will however give you it if you ask! And not many drink options if you don't like soft drinks (I'm weird!), I would just die and go to heaven if they had milkshakes

As an American I also appreciate the unlimited drink refills too! As for the menu, I'd recommend the boneless thighs over and above all the rest. Spiced just the way you want they are flavorful, moist and easy to clean-up after. Try the half chicken once and you'll know what that can be important! As for sides the peri-peri salted chips are wonderful and the corn on the cob is not too bad.

The chicken was just right, not too spicy and not too under-spiced. For sides we got corn on the cob and chips both of which were pretty good. I had a bottomless coke to drink and it tasted good even though the ice may have watered it down a bit. Also the ice came out in little pieces, not in nice big cubes. The African style decor was very stylish and modern, and the music that was playing wasn't really too loud. (I'm looking at you Five Guys and TGI Friday's.) Our waitress was nice and we had great service from when we entered. As soon as we walked through the door, we were greeted immediately and shown to a comfy and cosy booth. I have had a good experience at Nandos and I will be back soon for some more chicken!

The young lady beyond the counter on my first visit was very friendly and helpful, providing some lovely advice and tips for my trip (including for my proposed visit to her native area of England); if any manager/owner is reading, she gets major props! The gentleman who was working on my second trip was also friendly and helpful z but he was working on the back as well, so there was less interaction. Between my 2 visits, Zi tried a variety of pies, pasties, & rolls, all of which were very tasty (although there's something about a Greggs sausage roll; I'd stick to the pies and pasties here, and walk a couple of doors up the street for one of those.). If I'm ever back in the area z I'll be sure to stop in!

These pies are a great light lunch or snack when consumed by themselves. Or one can get a variety of them and make it a meal. The pies are made fresh daily and displayed in the glass case at the counter along with other British style fried foods such as Tattie Dogs, Sausage Rolls, etc. There are a variety of the infamous pies offered. We tried a Steak and Ale pie and an Original Scotch Pie with brown sauce packet for the pour over. I enjoyed mine (Scotch Pie) and could've eaten a couple more God willing. Along with an Irn Bru, this was a satisfying and affodable meal. Definitely give this place a try when in the area.

One evening in Berkeley, California, out to dinner with some friends at a Korean restaurant, I…read moreshared that I was heading to Scotland in July of 2019 and asked if anybody had been and had any recommendations for places to go. Probing why I was going a little, they got out of me I am of the Gordon Clan of Aberdeenshire, a Scotland of Old clan. One of my friends exclaimed, "Gordon!" He paused, looked me directly in the eyes and said, "You know we're rivals right?!" He is Nate James Lindsey. A member of the Lindsey Clan, one of the Gordon Clan's rival clans in Scotland of Old. Once we addressed our rival ancestries, he recommended to me The Baked Potato Shop in Edinburgh, the city I was flying into/out of for my first trip not only to Scotland, but to Europe as well. Well, I might as well go I thought, how bad can a rival clan recommendation be. The night I arrived in Edinburgh, 5 July 2019, I entered The Baked Potato Shop and was greeted by a friendly worker. After looking over the menu, I went with a baked potato loaded with vegan chilli and vegan Macsween haggis. After placing my order, paying, and getting the baked potato I thought the only thing missing from my first ever evening in Scotland was bagpipe music. No sooner had I thought that than I heard the sounds of bagpipes wafting across the cobbled lane out front of the Shop. Across the cobbled lane I went, lured by the wail of the bagpipes. After listening for a bit and providing a tip I returned to the guest house I was staying the night at. The food was delicious and filled my travel-tired belly. The haggis was the first I had of any kind, vegan or non-vegan, and it was an immediate favorite. Offset from my departure time zone by 8 hours, I went to sleep soon after eating. I woke up early the next morning ready to go. Turns out the baked potato and toppings cured my jet lag in less than 24 hours, quite remarkable. What a way to end my first day in Scotland, a recommendation from a member of a rival Scotland of Old clan yields tasty food. I will however note that I am also of Irish descent, so I am still not sure what to make of the recommendation in light of the Irish Potato Famine... Ahhh, Scotland of Old lives on.

When it comes to the takeaway vote, I always support the Indian food option. Back in the day, I used to work at an Indian restaurant, which is where my real education on what constitutes good Indian food came from. The chefs tested out an elaborate range of flavours on me, building my spice tolerance up week by week, and sealing my appreciation for Indian cuisine, which is why the food at Jaipur of India is always such a delight to sample. The menu here covers most bases, so I can't imagine anyone would ever be stuck for an option, even if high spice isn't your thing. The Rogan Josh here is fantastic, and suits my medium tastes in hotness perfectly, but there is a huge range of different dishes available. I am not a huge meat-eater but they do a lovely variety of vegetarian fare and the prices are extremely reasonable. The service is quick - for a takeaway anyway - and courteous, but you really need to place your order early on weekend evening or if there is a big sporting event on as it is very popular.

The theme inside was kinda surprising. It had a lot of movie and tv references, the most prominent being Star Wars. We also watched someone try their heat challenge. I'll just say I felt bad for the guy. We asked the waitress afterwards and she said not many pass. Most fail after 2-3 wings. Their normal heat selection goes from 1-8, but their heat challenge goes up to 11. For our food, I tried the Margarita wings, located in their "boozy" section. I really enjoyed these as they had a lot of flavor. I also got a side of mac and cheese, and chose chipuffalo sauce - a combo of chipotle and buffalo - it added a great flavor to the mac and cheese with just the right amoumt of heat. The other wings I tried were the Bit of French, which is garlic pepper flavored. It was actually really bland. I ended up dipping them into the remaining chipuffalo sauce. The restaurant is in a lot of stone, so you get almost no cell service. Just an FYI.
