This is more like it :D After my disaster at their St Vincent street branch last week, I just had to go for lunch to this place when I was through in Edinburgh. The staff are always fantastic, good banter and genuinely seem to be quite proud of the company they work for. The views of the harbour and forth are just stunning, especially on a sunny day. The bean burgers are always a wonderful hit! They are mushy and fall apart slightly but it's all part of the experience :D Plus their plain chips are perfect. Again my banana milkshake was a little lumpy for my tastes but I think that's to "show authenticity"*shrugs* They also offer student discount and double discount on tuesdays. I have never had a bad experience at this branch of Handmade Burger Company...and I've been going sporadically over the last 5 years! read more

I visited this place today for a change as I am sick of going to Pizza Express and getting a pizza that is drenched with tomato purée with barely any cheese. As we approached the entrance, we were greeted by a kind waitress who took us to our table which was conveniently located by the window with views over the docks with a boat just in. I had a cheeseburger which was very good. The bread was nice and crispy, the meat was fresh with a nice hint of garlic and the cheese was freshly sliced cheddar. For my side, I had the hand cut chips which were brilliant! They had a nice crisp texture and melted in the middle. Just be wary of the salt shakers. I thought it was like a pepper grinder but as soon as I turned it over, the salt began tumbling out at the speed of light which is rather annoying. To drink I had a banana milkshake. It was very nice but as Auburn said, there are lumps of banana in the bottom of the cup that get stuck in the straw which is a bit unappetising. We also had fresh water from the machine which was ice cold, just as I like it! I went to the toilet before I left which was clean enough but the tap was one of those annoying ones that turns off after about 5 seconds. Visiting the Handmade Burger Company was a good decision on our part and it makes a nice change of pace to the Pizza Express next door which is always ever so busy. Today the restaurant was practically empty and of course, the seats that were mainly taken were the ones in the window. I actually think this place has more windows than Pizza Express, so therefore benefits from more natural light coming in. read more

Handmade burger would have got a 5* as the food was delicious but the service as we were about to leave was atrocious. We waited and waited and waited for what seemed like forever to pay the bill and get a takeaway box but as it turned out the waitress 'forgot' about us which is unacceptable but what is most unacceptable and really gets me mad is when a member of staff looks at you like crap and gives you attitude, people like that should not be working with members of the public and gives the whole company a bad name, it is because of her I am writing this review and it because of her I give it 0* and it it also because of her that I will not return to handmade burger nor will I be recommending to my friends and family. read more

Just been for a meal at ocean terminal and feel compelled to express my dismay. I had read about Handmade Burger Co in Olive magazine (they named it one of the best burgers in the UK) and was looking forward to an above average meal, something a bit special even. However the results were very disappointing. My chicken was bland and tasteless. The chips were far too wet inside; several of them had black patches. The onion rings were slimy, undercooked and soggy inside. The coleslaw was over salted and far too onion heavy. The bun was poor quality. On top of this my order was wrong. I had selected to have the "Mexican Salsa" but with chicken rather than beef. A simple order change I was reassured. But when it arrived there was no avocado, which was one of the main toppings. The beef burger itself was pretty good, but not enought to salvage a poor meal. Over all the whole experience left a lot to be desired. We will not be returning to Handmade Burger Co again, and I would advise you all avoid it as well! read more

The restaurant had good service but everything else was a bit nah. The atmosphere was pretty dead and the prices are quite high for what you get. Quantity wise you really don't get much at all, I'd expect at least chips to go with a smallish burger for 7-9 quid! I went with the goat cheese burger which came with lots of caramelised onions, undercooked Peppers and some mushrooms. The bun was the worst, it tasted like a McDonald's bun. I feel like they should charge a max of a fiver for the quality of the burger and experience, it's just a little bit better than a McDonald's! read more

Despite the number of stars I'd come back here to see if I can add another. Benefitting from a pleasant view from it's massive windows (sitting at on of the concourse tables is probably far less enjoyable) this is somewhere that has a lot of exciting sounding burger combinations on the menu. I wouldn't though bother with the coleslaw again & the blue cheese dip was oddly solid. The milkshakes though are very good, bottomless soft drinks are available, none of the three of us had any complaints about our burgers, the sweet potato fries were fine and the staff we interacted with were all very positive and cheerful. read more

Recently a few new restaurants have opened in Ocean Terminal; Pizza Express, Frankie and Benny's and The Handmade Burger Company. The latter is actually at the end of the row and could easily be missed. A month or so we visited the new Pizza Express, after this we glanced at the menu outside The Handmade Burger Company and were approached by a very friendly member of staff who was nice and chatty, even when he found out we had already eaten, and gave us a 2 for 1 voucher. I later looked at the voucher and it had no expiry date and could be used any day of the week, so we decided to use it for lunch last Saturday. When we went in, the staff were all very friendly, i couldn't fault them at all. The menu was extensive, but as i am not a huge fan of burgers i decided upon a veggie option, the cheese veggie classic and my boyfriend had the hot habanero beef burger. As i had never been before, i didn't realise that the way it works is just like Nandos, you order and pay for your food yourself up at the till. However, the staff were still there if you needed them. Our burgers were both very tasty and good value. Make sure you are very hungry when you go, my burger consisted of two burgers in a bun. My only issue would be the apple chutney that was also in the bun, this was just the filling from an apple strudel and far too sweet. My boyfriend was also very happy with his burger. Once finished we walked out and were wished a cheery goodbye from the staff. Overall, i definitely recommend this restaurant. It is very child friendly and good for a quick bite to eat. read more

We stumbled upon this place when we were on our way to one of the other restaurants in Ocean Terminal, and were drawn in by the extensive choices of burger toppings on the menu (as well as the fact we love burgers). The staff made the biggest impression on me - all really chatty, helpful and polite (a big plus for me) and made sure we had the best seat to accommodate our toddler and sleepy baby in pram. You choose what you want then go and order at a bar and pay straight away, so you can then just up and leave whenever you need to. My husband went for the bacon, cheese and BBQ sauce option on a beef burger, which he practically inhaled (so I'm assuming he enjoyed it), and I tried the Stuffed Burger, which is described as 100% beef pattie stuffed with Wensleydale cheese... Mmmmm! It was delicious and I would definitely order it again. Of course it all started to leak out a bit and got my hands very messy, but what can you expect from a crumbly cheese stuffed burger? It's probably not the best venue for a first date! Thankfully for me, my children are far messier so my husband didn't appear to notice the state of me. We ordered a portion of chips each and probably should have gone for one between the two of us, as the portions were huge! They were very nice and were freshly cooked, but despite this I couldn't finish the portion. I would definitely recommend this place if you want a good quality food fairly quickly, there is certainly a lot of choice on the menu and I'd love to go and try other toppings sometime. read more

Ordered our burgers via Deliveroo from the Bournemouth branch. They arrived fairly quickly, but unfortunately had not been cooked properly. Very pink in the middle, totally undercooked and note that the company themselves state that they are not able to offer burgers cooked rare due to the type of mince they use. Burgers went in the bin. A phone call to the restaurant resulted in lame excuses and the suggestion to contact Deliveroo for a refund. Ultimately we did receive a refund for the unsafe meat, but were left hungry. Visited this place today - we're working our way around all of the "gourmet" burger restaurants in Edinburgh, and this one was next on the list. Overall, the experience was a bit of a disappointment. The staff were excellent - really friendly and helpful. The menu was detailed, with lots of choice, which got our mouths watering. However, the end product wasn't really up to much. Nothing awful, just absolutely nothing different from the endless other gourmet burger chains. The burgers themselves were fine, although my other half's one was dripping in fat from the cheese. The buns were a real disappointment - the menu makes much of their special recipe sourdough, but in all honesty, they tasted like standard white bread to me, with none of the tartness of real sourdough. They also felt slightly underbaked. My other half's bun also disintegrated due to the dripping fat from his burger. The chips were advertised as twice-fried, but they were a bit soggy - we think that they might have fried them for too long the first time, and not long enough the second time. We left most of them. Onion rings were tasty, though, and the bottomless drinks were also welcome. As others have noted, on a good day, there's a cracking view across the Firth, but I'm not sure that I'd go back - I'd probably head to Wagamama, Pizza Express or Zizzi in the hope of something a bit tastier. read more

One of the better burgers I've ever had outside of the USA. It's located in a huge mall overlooking the port, so you can dismiss any hopes of legitimate Scottish culture, but the grass fed beef burger is fantastic. I covered mine in BBQ sauce, closed my eyes, and pretended I was back in Justin Bieber's country of temporary residence. My fellow Americans-- tip generously. It's one of the few stereotypes about our people that we should encourage. read more

Best burgers I've ever had. A wide selection of toppings. Great home made chips and their onion rings are amazing! Staff were friendly and helpful. So far I've tried the lamb burger and the peppered beef. Both were juicy and tasty, plus you can customise your toppings so it's just the way you like it. read more

Disappointing. The staff kindly ask you to go to the till and order, pay and come back with a number that you have to put in the table. Waters only take your food to the table and ask nicely if everything is OK. I give the service an extra star, although you have to go to the bar to order but it seems to be enough members of the staff to take orders and come with the bill at the end of your meal. The meat was tasty. But the bread bun was industrial,cheap and old and fell apart immediately. Why do you take all the work to do a good product like the meat and after choose an processed,bad quality, slightly sweet taste bread to go with it? The burger doesn't came with anything (no chips, no salads, no relish...nothing) It cost £7. I have tried better burgers in many places in this town and they do come with some side dish....I won't go back read more

My husbands burger was decent but my burger was almost inedible. It was drenched in mustard and the chicken was partially burnt. We asked for onion rings on the side and they forgot. Wouldn't go back. read more
