    Beer flight

My friend and I stopped in here when we were looking for a place to grab a bite and beverage after hiking Arthur's Seat. We walked past this place and decided to stop in. I ordered a beer flight to taste an assortment of local brews. We both ordered burgers (regular and vegan) with fries. The burgers were great and the fries were good as well.

I came here for a quick bite to eat. I was really happy as soon as I stepped into the doorway. The ambiance is amazing. The decorations are really homey and welcoming. The service is also really great with very quick service. The food is the best part! Really excellent food! 10/10!

Visited the Holyrood based on the positive reviews on a Sunday for lunch around 12:30. They weren't busy so I was seated immediately. They have a great selection of Scottish beers. I overheard the table next to me asking for a Guinness. "No, we don't have that but we have some really good Scottish Ales." I got the Blonde Ale on draft (Fyne Ales Jarl). It was light, crisp and slightly hoppy. Ordered the Haggis Bon Bons & they were pretty good and the best part of my meal. Decided to try a burger given the reviews and settled on the Stinger with hot sauce on the side. The taste of the burger was ok. I was expecting a distinct taste as it is locally sourced beef/brisket. Seemed like it needed more seasoning. The Jalapeño Sausage was tasty & would've helped but there was hardly any on top of the burger-maybe this was the enhancement that was missing. Also, this looks like a local requirement, the temperature had to be medium well to well-done. They are pet friendly. Close to the end of my meal at least 6 dogs came in & things got a bit more lively. Service was mixed. Some (greeter) were great and they weren't busy and there were longer gaps than necessary between courses & my server seemed like she was in a blasé mood. The restaurant had a nice Pub feel & looks like the bar would have a great vibe in the evenings. Maybe I caught them during a Sunday afternoon lull.

Stopped in with family a while ago, and while I, myself, am not one for beer/cider my father was a big fan. He tried a cider that he describes as dry but not sweet. For quite sometime he has looked for something similar in the US though with no luck! The food itself, is typical pub fare. That said, everything is well executed and I would consider it amongst the very best pubs in Edinburgh. If you visit Edinburgh, best off avoiding the restaurants that line the Royal Mile and stroll just around the corner to Holyrood 9A for something quality to eat and drink!

Stopped in for a late lunch/early dinner. The menu selection was perfect. I had to ask for clarification on a few local ingredients used on the burger, as I had never heard of the type of greens that they served. The food was delicious. The atmosphere is a wonderful mix of old-town charm in the structure of the building and architectural features mixed with modern decor items and menu options that really blended seamlessly. The waitstaff were kind and the service was prompt. Since we visited at a real off time, that should be a given, but I have been places before that couldn't get their act together to provide good quality service even when the restaurant was slow (so it is still notable).

Great burgers and fries! The brioche bread wasn't the best I've had in Edinburgh but the rest of the burger compensated for that. Great and friendly service. We were 6 people and the meal for one in our party got forgotten but the quickly fixed it and also gave us the burger for free. Quite loud when we were here and difficult to talk with everyone at the table without yelling but as it's a bar full of people that is expected.

Vegetarian haggis burger (hold the sour cream for vegan) Pretty darned good!

It's so easy to miss the 9A pub if you don't pay attention. The signage is very subtle. It's a short walk up the hill from the Macdonald Hotel (behind Holyrood Parliament building). The street may be quiet but the bar is almost guaranteed to be buzzing with people enjoying an ale or two and tucking to their excellent pub menu or homemade desserts. Definitely leave room for dessert! They have 4 burger options for vegetarians which is a bonus. It would only take a few tweaks for some of those to become vegan. Great pub and proper hidden gem. Seek it out.

This is a great place for pub food and also full meals. I came here on a Friday night with a party of 4 people and didn't have to wait very long. The service was quick, and I enjoyed the chicken and bacon salad for my main course. I also had the cranachan for dessert, a raspberry compote with cream, and it was delicious.

Burger and beer, chips were nom.

Bit of a flying visit before my train back to Manchester, but well worth it. I had The Hollyrood burger; beef, mustard, red onion, blue cheese and tomato - bloody gorgeous. It wasn't ostentatious and massive but (cliche warning) just right - one of the best burgers I've had in a long time! To wash it all down I had a Fallen Brewery Chew Chew, a really flavoursome salted caramel milk stout. Well worth a visit of you want a well Crafted, delicious burger.

Great place to go, you can definitely walk your burger off going up the hills back to the Royal Mile! A good range of sauces. Glad to see they have chilli ketchup! Staff were attentive, and we're constantly refilling out water. What we got: Blue cheese burger, sweet potato fries. Burger patty was succulent and the blue cheese complimented it well. I'd go for that if you're after something rich and filling. A very generous portion of Sweet potato fries cooked perfectly! Burger review: Quality: 9/10 | Creativity: 7/10 | Value £: 7/10 Other wee things: Service: 7/10 | Ambience: 6/10

I mean who doesn't love a good pub? You get great drinks and great food at an affordable price. As I write it makes me think of think of when Zidane reunites with Freya in FF9. Sometimes we don't wanna eat at fancy Michelin restaurant that has small plates but charges a premium. Sometimes we just wanna cut all the BS and just get a nice hearty meal. And thats what we got. When we sat down we found out that they were doing a Trivia night. Normally I would have told my girl to pick another spot to eat but for some reason I was cool with it. There was even a table nearby with kids(yuck). And you know what? It was fine. That's because we had been sipping on some amazing cocktails. This was the first time I had ever tried it and after trying it at multiple places Scotland, Queens Arms I feel has done it the best. I love the complexity of the flavors of the meat with the creamy and pepper flavors of the peppercorn sauce. If you've never had Haggis, you definitely have to try it here. The best part is that it comes with mashed potatoes too! Shoutouts to the Fish and Chips if you are also into that. One of my friends ordered that and I definitely had to go back in for multiple bites. Finally the roast. The Sunday Roast should just be an automatic order if you happen to come here on a Sunday. You get so much food and it's all so damn tasty. They'll cook a roast to whatever doneness your heart desires. We went with Medium Rare and it came out perfectly. If you didn't have enough flavors with all the extra sides it comes with, they also give you gravy to pour on anything you want. Thanksgiving basically came early this night. But as I looked around and admired all the bookshelf's and all the families have a nice dinner with their loved ones, I just thought about how happy I was. I was finally here! This was the start of my trip. Queens Arms has set a high ceiling on great experiences in Scotland. We even went back there a couple of days ago just because we knew we would be able to end the night on a good drink. But in the end I think if you are Edinburgh, you have to come to this place. It is one of my favorite experiences I've had in Scotland so far and I dream about when I can come back again.

A quick Google search later, we decided to add this to our "must visit while in Edinburgh" list. This wasn't our anniversary restaurant, of course, but we knew we needed to dine here at least once. It was a long walk from our hotel, but it was a nice way to see parts of the city that we wouldn't normally have gotten to. The restaurant itself is nestled in the basement (or downstairs) of a cute building. It's small in there, but they're very good at maximizing the space they're given. We settled in at a teeny-tiny table off to the side and swiftly ordered a couple of pints. The menu is very straightforward: you're either getting a meat and cheese plate, just a cheese plate, or pates. We decided to share the Mixed Meat & Cheese platter. We figured that we'd snack and drink some Scottish beer, then head off into the night to find our "real" dinner. Thing is, though, that combo platter filled us the heck up. The waitress came out with the meat and cheese plate and a box of bread, oatcakes and crackers, and my husband and I had a "where is all this going?" moment. But our pro-waitress dropped the plate on the table and popped the bread box into a shelf on the wall next to us - a shelf that neither of us ever even noticed, to be honest. The meat and cheese selections were delicious and paired really well together. Kind of hidden away on that shelf (holding the bread and oatcakes) were a couple chutney jars. That chutney - lots of fruit pieces and complex flavors - brought a lot to the cheeses. We really did love the food, the surroundings, the beer and the staff. I wish we had something like this back home.
