Upon our visit yesterday we found The Bank to be a pleasant, JDW type pub (including very similar club days, etc), and the food we had was well presented, tasty and great value for money. Especially the whole(!) grilled chicken peri-peri style with fries, four onion rings and coleslaw for just £ 9.29, which was rather good indeed. My friend had the chicken wings with the hottest-possible glazing, and hot they certainly were! Everything appeared to be on a higher level than JDW. And again like in a Spoon, there was no music playing, which we greatly appreciated. The Bank keeps a minimum of three cask ales ready and fresh, and there's the whole encyclopedia of alcoholic beverages on offer. The menu is expansive, and obviously this is great value for money food. When I'm back to Nottingham I shall certainly return to The Bank. All four of us felt that way.

Also, I don't know how the till works but I have a few items that do not calculate correctly, for example 3 portions of onion rings came to £17.68, this does not divide by 3?!? It was only 1p more expensive but how is it possible for the till to calculate incorrectly and does it do it often? Is this even legal?

Sunday was the launch of XP at the Mockingbird Theatre. This is a geek themed event held once a night and is a bit of a mecca for all things board game, computer game, quiz and film orientated. Naturally we had to go. I am currently on a bootcamp scheme (see http://www.yelp.co.uk/biz/fit-body-bootcamp-birmingham for info), meaning I am on a strict diet of proteins, fats and No carbs. After consuming a smoothie for my breakfast and a salad for my lunch, I was starving hungry by 5pm. Everyone seemed to be either ordering pizza (a major no-no for me) or heading to Subway for their tea. I thought neither of these would be an option before a helpful person mentioned that Subway did salad bowls, problem solved... Or so I thought. Despite having all of the components of salad, Subway in Digbeth DON'T do salad bowls (and their staff are pretty unhelpful too). In a major grump, I left the store to see what else was on offer on the street. Right next door I came across Mother Clucker. Firstly, they scored a point for having a name that made me snigger, secondly... They couldn't have been more helpful if they tried. After a quick peruse of the menu I opted for lemon and herb chicken (which is served without skin). I asked if I could have some salad with this, after looking at me strangely for a minute - the guy said "Sure, we can do that. It'll be no extra charge". Winner. The chicken was cooked fresh for me as I waited and I requested some lettuce, onion and chillies (all I could have). I was even warned that the salad might be a bit rubbish as it's predominently meant for burgers, but I thought it was sweet that they warned me. My diet friendly feast was a budget busting £3.50. The guys that did end up going to Subway ended up pretty jealous of my dinner after all. This new kid on the block is sparkling clean, very friendly and super helpful. Will I be back? With the rest of the family off to a work related Christmas do, I found myself alone with numerous option for tea. Since I wasn't feeling it for the local chippy any more, I settled my craving for chicken. I did not let the threat of slipping on the icy pavements and cracking my head open deter me from my goal, with it being a rather short distance from my home. Stepping inside, I was immediately greeted by the cashier. She was polite, patiently talking me through what sauce and seasoning for the fries I would like. I decided on the six chicken tenders combo meal, which comes with fries and a can. I went for their original peri peri sauce for my tenders and peri salt for the fries, also opting for a regular side of onion rings for the hell of it. My wait time wasn't that long, probably five or seven minutes, I wasn't paying much attention. I bring my food straight home and unpack to get a good look. A rather good potion of fries along with the tenders: four good sized strips of chicken in a crispy coating, other two were tiny. Not that I minded because it was still a big amount of meat for me. Everything tasted amazing. The only thing I wasn't enjoying too well was the onion rings. They were cheap ones, but to be honest, it's been a while since I was last impressed by onion rings so i'll let that slide. The bill, was a tiny bit on the pricey side. But compared to KFC, it does seem to be more value for money. Either way, I thoroughly enjoyed what I got and will most likely visit this place again.

I ordered something small, but made sure it was a range. Chicken wings, extra hot and wonderfully tingly and delightful. The chicken was good quality, and the sauce was spicy and tangy. The beef skewer was a little pricey, and was slightly overcooked but that's what you get from a predominantly chicken restaurant. The fries were standard, and the peri peri salt on top made them quite tasty. The best part was the serving, on a slate board, which made the eating experience all the more enjoyable. Service is brilliant for a fast food restaurant, and there's great seating too. Would definitely visit again!

Burnt ends (side of more meat please!) and 'slaw. It's all been good, I've not experienced a bad bit of food there. Price isn't bad, for two of us last time it was £45. That was for the two burgers, burnt ends, mac n cheese, chilli cheese fries, and four beers. This place generated a ton of buzz before the doors were opened mid November, so naturally I wanted to try it! After stalking their Facebook, it seemed the best time to grab a table and avoid long waits was right at opening. My dining partner and I turned up shortly after noon on a Saturday and were seated immediately. The first thing i noticed is how intimate the venue is. There really is only a handful of tables. We opted for our own high top table as stools aren't the most comfortable seating. The menu is simple and specific. I'd check it out ahead of time so you know what you're in for. I thought the servers were great. Timing of food, not as great. They were rammed but we were the first people sat for the afternoon so I'd expect less of a wait than 25 minutes for starters. We shared some wings and beef chili cheese fries. Now, I am from Buffalo, NY. The chicken wing capitol of the world. We invented and perfected chicken wings. Its hard to compete with our wings in this country. Back to the review, here the wings were left still attached which I kinda liked. Usually you find the drums and flats separated so this was actually a nice change up. I do think they needed more sauce. Ours were nice and crispy but dry. Overall they were a nice choice for a starter. Ooh and the cheese fries are lovely and served in a little baking tin. As for my main, I had a buttermilk chicken sandwich which was juicy and crispy goodness. The roll was a bit too hard for my liking. I left most of it on my plate. But the chicken was amazing. Random fact about me: I love pickles or gherkins as you Brits call them. It's always a nice surprise to see a place over here serving pickles. The event was held in Lab 11 one of the coolest clubs/spaces in Birmingham incredibly fresh in the arches of digbeth there was both indoor and outdoor space and plenty of seating. The concept was amazing, take an amazing club, host 4 pop up restaurants and serve chicken wings and host a rave and bingo during the day. Execution was a minor problem, they had amazing pop ups with amazing chicken wings I have to say some of the best i've ever eaten. I have to say both Rebel India and Momma Bear Wings 'n' Tings were the clear favourites with amazing flavours and a great selection. The thing that was missing was the bingo, there was no bingo or any form of entertainment/games during the time I was there and I think this let it down slightly. Amazing food, just the lack of bingo let down wingfest.
