Driving down from Sydney to Wollongong on a snap decision on a Friday evening, I asked my wife to…read morelook for a place for dinner. Came across Kneading Ruby on the phone and liked the sound of the restaurant and they are open till late. Tried to book once we checked into our hotel but ended up on a waiting list.. (at the top though) After pre dinner drinks at Humber bar (separate review) which was only meters away, I walked up two check on the table. The signage to the entrance was confusing, as it's through double doors which i thought was a loading dock.. They took my details again and I got a call within 10 minutes... We were in! Friendly rustic restaurant and at 9:30 the place was humming. I ca imagine what it would be like without Covid restrictions. Drinks were good (Negroni for me and something sweet and fancy looking for my wife). Looking around, almost every table had a pizza and they all looked amazing.. Woodfired, thin crusted simple pizzas.. Anyway..., we had: Heirloom tomato-Nashi pear-Buffalo mozzarella and Ginger salad. Brilliant (except the Nash I just tasted like regular pears) Oysters with Grape- Prosecco and Limoncello. Very good Beef cheeks (slow cooked goodness) Cannellini bean- Charred shallots Different food, friendly Rustic venue. Definitely worth the visit (make sure you book early) I will be back.

I didn't do all the ordering, I just did the eating, so I'm not quite sure of all the dishes ordered, however, they included pad thai noodles, pineapple fried rice, tom yum, drunken noodles and more. All of the dishes were nicely presented on black plateware. The drunken noodles came on a shovel shaped plate and another dish came in a bowl shaped like a cowboy hat! The pineapple fried rice was flavorful and delish and the drunken noodles were perfectly cooked and tasty. The siam ring aka calamari rings were crispy and yum-worthy with the chili sauce. The square shaped appetizer were gui chai tod which are pan-fried chive cakes. They were crispy and soft on the inside and they got my appetite simulated for the mains. I wasn't able to sample all the dishes but the ones I had were all nom-worthy and flavorful. Couldn't complain at all about the customer service. Our dishes came out pretty quickly and they were able to allow my niblings who don't have extensive palates indulge on their McD's. They took they burger and fries and plated it so they were no McD's logos exposed lol. When it came to payment, my mom and I discreetly paid the bill ahead of time. At first I opted for card payment but the person at the register who seemed like the owner notified me if I pay in cash we would get a discount. So, yeah we pay cash to save some $$$. The interior of the restaurant is nice and spacious with Thai art and decor displayed throughout the main room. There were plenty of seating in the main area and to my surprise when I walked to the restroom, the back area is where customers can dine on the floor. Shoes off and on the side and they sit on a cushion on the floor. Anyways, the restroom is pretty small and cramped, but nothing special. Overall, great thai food and okay priced. Check them out if you're in the area!

The lunch menu is quite traditional, dominated by burgers, fish and chips and other fried seafood options. I went for the $10.50 NZ Hoki and chips, which was a generous size. (Don't forget to ask for chicken salt!) The burgers looked even better, lovely and fresh, although I'm told it was sausage mince rather than a proper patties. The basic burger is a good-value $8.50, $6 extra to add on chips and a soft drink. Just be warned - the fishermans basket is ideally shared, as indicated but he $18 price tag. Lots of fried food! On Friday and Saturday evenings, they have a fancier menu, with options such as fajitas, Mexican-style barramundi and shared platters. There's also the option to BYO (possibly for free?)
