Back Galley Split - Inside the diner

It was my sole intention on Sunday to have a massive session in the gym and follow it up with a big…read moregreasy burger from Back Galley Split in Camden. I am very happy to say I achieved this. I sought inspiration from the one and only Arnold Schwarzenegger and his Blueprint. Having completed my chest and back workout at Anytime Fitness Mount Annan I made my way quickly to Camden to sate my insatiable hunger and add to my ongoing list of conquered burgers. I walked into the half full 1950's diner and was actually impressed by the look. From the outside it didn't look like much but being inside I could notice all the details. Chrome fittings, cool old motorcycle hanging from the wall along with old timey posters, my favourite being the "Unattended children will be given espresso and a free kitten". Also awesome were the old movies playing at the back of the diner with a little Johnnie Cash playing in the background. I sat down quickly in my comfy retro Cadilac style booth and picked up and opened the menu feeling like a fat kid staring at cake (inappropriate I know). It was hard to control myself but I finally decided on a BBQ Ranch Burger, Curly Fries and Root Beer which came as a combo for $18.90. I sat around appreciating the theme and listening to The Man in Black and even took a call from mate for around 10 minutes. The wait time was probably a little too long, especially given my body's need for fuel. Luckily my mate kept me occupied until my burger came out. I had to get off the phone quickly because of the picture right in front of my face. It was a monster of a burger filling both of my hands. The bun was soft and yielding and glowing golden brown. I bit into the burger tasting all of the components and feeling all the different textures. The bun was slightly sweet and oh so soft, the taste of the smokey BBQ sauce mingling with the ranch dressing was next along with the crispiness and sweetness of the onion rings. The saltiness of the bacon came next followed by the cheddar which had melted onto the thin style beef patty which was cooked crispy adding another layer of texture with some juiciness. The beef stumped me on this burger and i'm not sure what they were going for, but it kind of tasted like processed sausage meat? Hmmmmm. The burger finished off with the fresh tomato and good quality lettuce. The curly fries were perfect, with great crunchiness on the outside and and soft inside. Good burger! Despite the weirdness of the possibly overly processed beef patty. That was their only downfall which I think could be easily fixed. There are so many other options to choose from that really excites me - buffalo wings, pulled pork sandwich, ribs, great selection of burgers and of course old school milkshakes and desserts. After letting them know I enjoyed the burger, they let me know they have a burger challenge called the "Big Bopper" which is pretty much the same burger as the Ranch with the addition of 2 extra patties, a schnitzel, a side of junkyard fries and a milkshake which you have to finish within 25 mins. Sufficed to say that I will be going back to test my manliness, and have since locked in Lo Lo to provide coverage of the glorious event. You know i'll be back, i've got work to do...

Their junkyard fries are to die for. Staff are also incredibly lovely. Great place for lunchread more

Mister Gee Burger Truck - Truffle burgers x 4 with dirty fries

So far, the Mister Gee's burger truck has been tucked away in a car wash behind the Burwood…read moreWestfield. It is quite simply good food mixed with an element of surprise. Mister Gee confirms their location, opening time, and the one burger they'll serve for the week, sporadically on their Facebook page, and are only open Thursday to Saturday (for now). I have had the good fortune of tasting their Truffle burger yesterday, and it is one of my top beef burgers. With meunster cheese, rocket, drizzled with truffle mayo - This burger definitely knows how to look after you. Their chicken burger on the other hand, was tasty but forgettable - don't get me wrong though, it was still very good. Order up with the dirty fries and you're set to be satisfied.

I'll get this out of the way...I hate, HATE brioche buns for burgers. Who's the smartass that…read morethought this was a great idea? Let's put something fatty and heavy...on something else that's fatty and heavy but super sweet which overpowers the burger. Anyways if you like brioche bun burgers more power to you...but I hate them. That being said, Mister Gee's burgers work well with their buns and don't overwhelm the burger itself, so good on them for that. By the way if you didn't know, Mister Gee's only showcases one burger each week out of their 4 burgers: The Truffe, Fatboy, Cheese Boogie, and Chicken. Rocked up on a Thursday and the line was already 30 deep around 645pm, so the wait was roughly half an hour. Not a fan of queues, but they're there for a reason. This week was the Truffe Burger, and I naturally had to order a double. This burger is supposedly the favourite one among the staff, so I had expectations but I tempered them too. The dirty fries were also on showcase, so had to order those as well. The dirty fries were decent, but whoever made them didn't salt them properly as the salt was distributed unevenly....mega salty in the middle and barely salted on the edges. Not sure I'd order these again unless they fixed that up. The Truffe was pretty good...I wasn't expecting it to be, but I had no qualms with this burger, especially at $13 for a double. The truffle oil with the mayo and cheese went well with the grass fed Tasmanian beef patty. Did I enjoy this burger more than the Bronx at Five Points? Yes I did...I'm definitely keen to try the Cheese Boogie and Fat Boy now. My only gripe (besides the fries) is that this place isn't the most accessible if you live by the CBD, but if you live by inner west you should by all means go.
