Beautiful kayak ride to an island at sunset. Had such a blast! Thanks for the Florida keys insider info!

My family and I have been coming to the Keys for tears and this was the first year we decided to try kayaking through the mangroves. We were not disappointed. We all had a great time. James, our tour guide, was amazing! He was professional and patient with us first timers and he was knowledgeable about the area. The trip was one of our favorite adventures here in the Keys. I had did have some concern about all of us physically being able to keep up or even to complete the tour, but it turns out it was a non issue. We all did it and plan on doing it again real soon.

This area was on the way to the mangroves that a bunch of locals anchor their boats.

Very easy to make a reservation online through their website. They were very quick to respond and confirm the reservation. I booked an eco tour through the mangroves. My family own kayaks and kayak quite often at home. We decided to do a kayak tour so we could see and learn about all the plants and wildlife that is in the Keys from a close up perspective that only a kayak could accomplish. However, the website is quite deceiving. We arrived early at Sombrero Park like they requested. I was never told where specifically to meet at sombrero park but noticed at the turn around there were some kayaks on the beach. We assume that is where kayakers put in and parked and waited at that area. Our tour guide was late and arrived after us. I have no problems with that because I understand things happen outside of our control. So we waited for the guide to unload 9 kayaks and offered to help but was turned down to liability reasons. Again, I understand and our party of 6 continued to wait. The water and weather was beautiful! Once we were able to go it was a typical kayak paddle. I am unhappy with how large our group was in comparison to our tour guide. We had 6 in our party (all separate kayaks except for one tandem) and 2 other people (separate kayaks) also were part of our group. That's 8 people in kayaks and as you go though the mangroves you can hear anything from the guide because it's one person at a time in a line so if you are not closer than the 3rd kayak forget hearing much. When I would hear something it was about the guide not the nature. Disappointing, I like having conversations with guides and such but call me crazy but I want to know about the ecosystem on a eco tour.. I was around the second to last kayak and once we would make it to a clearing to where I could listen I realized our tour guide wasn't even speaking about the local wildlife. We mainly learned about him, his boats he owned, his car, and his rental income. He would only sprinkle a little bit of actual knowledge of the local area and wildlife when talking. The whole time I just felt cheated out of a proper eco tour with a tour guide. I honestly felt like we rented kayaks with a great gps system that liked to talk about himself. Once in a while he would actually speak about something that wasn't full of it, for example he pointed out the Cuba radio towers, he told us about the water levels can change drastically and about jellyfish that lay upside down. We got to know that he is not bothered by jellyfish and picked up one for us to see. Please note that my issues with this was the misinterpretation of an actual ECO-TOUR vs what we got. Yes, he told us about a few plants, a tiny bit of history, tiny bit of wildlife but nothing felt like education. It was more of point at a plant and state you can eat the leaves but they don't taste good. I honestly don't think I would have had as big of an issue with this tour if they would have had 1 more tour guide, or someway to communicate with the other kayakers. Adding some sort of waterproof communications so that you can actually hear what the guide talked about when he did briefly speak about the ecosystem. If you want and are expecting like my family more knowledgeable information on the beautiful nature of the mangroves and the wildlife then I would suggest find a different tour. If you want to not get lost while kayaking and don't mind listening if you can hear anyways to someone's stories (real or BS) then sure take this tour. The price was reasonable and we simply enjoyed being out on the water but again it was not at all of what I was expecting based on their website. If I return to the keys I would not use this company again.

The shifting was tough and you just knew it was worn hard and for the $1200 price tag (plus fuel) it was def not what we were expecting. We know boat rentals are expensive but there were moments that left us uneasy with inability to reverse and the vibration over 20mph. Noted to the team but they were apathetic to it and when taking my family out that's not enough for us. Wouldn't recommend if heading out to sea for fishing or anything less than flat waters.

In my experience many of the boat rental outfits tend to be really cut throat and border line hustlers in the way they run their operations. Keep in mind I said many, not all. My recent experience at All Aboard Boat Rentals compelled me to sit down and share it with the world in hope that I can help others. I am going to be as concise as possible otherwise people will skip over my review and miss out on the best part. ****DISCLAIMER***** Not related, affiliated or paid in anyway Pros 1. Open on time. Believe it or not it's not the norm lol. 2. Answer the phone. If you call them with questions, issues or concerns they are more than happy to assist however possible. No attitudes or rudeness (unless provoked) 3. Knowledgeable staff that quickly go over the details of the boat like, safety requirements, propeller condition, fire extinguisher, shallow areas to avoid. 4. Well maintained fleet. We rented 4 different boats over the course of two weeks and we didn't experience a single issue. Turn key operation every time. All the electronics worked too, the radio, the GPS, the fish finder etc... Even the hulls are well maintained with very little marine growth which helps with fuel efficiency and top end speed. 5. Well stocked store. You can get everything you may need right there. From ice to chum, squid, basic tackle, snacks etc.... 6. Best part is the staff. I don't have all the names but I interacted mainly with Steven, Jay and the queen of customer service TONY!!!!! I can't say enough about this group. I've watched them interact with people of all walks of life and budgets and ethnicities. They treated everyone exactly the same even those that don't speak the language. It was very cool to see Steven using google translate to communicate with none English speaking customers. That most have been frustrating but they did it anyway. You'd think this is the standard but I can honestly tell you that this is not the case everywhere you go....sadly. Constructive criticism 1. I wished they had a way to store basic customers information so you wouldn't have to waste time with the paperwork every time you rented a vessel. Or streamline the process a bit more . I am sure it's a very small percentage of customers if any that actually read that many pages. If you are staying in Marathon and want to rent a boat, I strongly suggest you give All Aboard Boat Rentals a call.
