I was also in the store when he called a customer who had bought a guitar and was explaining to him that he had to return it or pay more because it was sold to him as a factory second but was supposedly brand-new without blemish.

Found RIT Music while I was next door at New Holland Brewery sampling every flavor of Dragons Milk (yes, you should do this, too)... ANYWAY- RIT Music is pretty cool! some good deals on the guitar wall, they had a decent selection of pedals, some drums that seemed like a pretty good deal (up on a high shelf, didn't get a close look). The skate shop side was great, thirteen year old me would have lost his mind. Staff was friendly and welcoming. One guy was quiet, but he was cool- sometimes I'm quiet too, you can chill until you want to join the conversation, quiet guy- it's cool! the other two guys were hyper friendly fun people. We talked about pedals and Coheed and Cambria and had a great time. I bought some strings I don't need quite yet and a candle that smells surprisingly good, but I'm going to save up for next time I'm up there so I can grab a pedal (or something better!) because those guys were great. Definitely going back to Holland, and definitely going back to RIT Music!

But...things have changed for the better! My last few times in the store the staff was handing me guitars, picks, a tuner... They have been very accommodating! Once I decided on what guitar I wanted and paid for, I left it for Randy to set up. The Set Up was awesome. You know they care! Yesterday I was shopping effects pedals. The staff suggested different pedals and connected all of them to an amp and guitar for me to sample. It was great! I actually purchased a pedal the staff recommended, based on the sound I was seeking. As a self-taught (internet) guitar player, it is nice to enter a music store and have fun and enlightening conversations about music. Thank you!

Safe to say, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! What adds injury to insult, resulting in stagnation for me as a regarded composer. The complete absence of active security within the studios and the absence of business policies that protect the customers, like me, from any and all transgressions. Frankly, pathetic. They say great things about Southtown and shared how they have been in this neighborhood for quite some time. Just yesterday I was speaking to a parent and she had been bringing her kids for over 5 years! Kendra is on staff and I believe the manager there. She is very knowledgeable, fun, and accommodating to all the guests that come through. She doesn't shy away from letting you try any instrument in the store. Dean is also on staff and he is very helpful. No, I mean like, very very out of this world helpful! We actually chatted through Thumbtack to get things arrangeds for my daughters piano lessons. I wanted in home, but he was determined to find a teacher that would be the best fit for our schedule and needs. Here's a little secret about Southtown. I had an experience with a guitarist I found through a Groupon deal at Southtown. It discouraged me a little from playing. But Kendra and Dean really redeemed themselves. They don't know this, which is why I can say their service is genuinely from the heart of caring about sharing their passion for music. Thank you Southtown!

Just returned from Southtown Guitar store which is now within the Meijer grocery store on Alpine…read moreAvenue. I had to get the high E string replaced. Dean not only recommended the right string (costs only $1) but also put it on my guitar free of charge. Such a genuinely sweet guy. He has a free 30 mins session which I think I will try out soon. And the guitar cum music lesson store is so brightly lit and well organized. I wish Dean all the best and recommend this place to everybody.
