I went to this Allen office for an eye exam. The exam was done by a young lady who has a lot of tatoos on both of her arms. The service was so-so, but that was not the real issue. The real issue was optical prescription. I took it to Costco to make lens. Upon receiving the new lens, my vision became a lot worse because my left eye could barely see anything. Opticians at Costco suggested me to go back to Key Whitman for an re-exam. The second time I had the same lady (not sure if she was a licensed optometrist). The exam equipment was ill prepared. The chart was not even in the center of my view. We struggled a lot with the machine to get through the exam. I took the new prescription to Costco. The optician saw the results and told me that it was impossible that two exams would yield such different results within 10 days timeframe. They strongly suggested me to get a second opinion from another optometrist. I later went to a new independent optometrist office, paid exam fee to get a new exam. This time, I noticed that in this other optometrist office, the service and equipment were day and night comparing to those at Key Whitman Allen office. Now I am wearing the new lens from the latest eye prescription and cannot be more happy with it. read more

I had an appointment at the key Whitman in Mesquite last month. The whole experience lasted over 2 hours. I paid $231.00 when I left and found out later that they had charged my insurance another $308.00. I went in for a simple annual eye exam. Then to make matters worse when I had my prescription filled, I paid another $357.00 to get my glasses that I couldn't even see out of them. I could see better with my last year's glasses than I could with my new glasses. Now they want to see if I have glaucoma. No I don't have glacoma, and no I will not have these incompetent greedy people touch my eyes. Ladies and gentlemen, stay away from these eye doctors. They don't care. Visited for cataract consultation. They have comprehensive state-of-the-art equipment. The technicians are courteous and efficient. But they steer patients to the "closer" on a later date, who focuses on tiered pricing. I was considering the low-end mono vision lens with manual surgery that's covered by insurance with a 3-digit copay. Beyond that, prices escalate dramatically to 4-digits and more. During the weeks before my next visit, I was unable to contact anyone by email or phone. When I got to see the "closer" again, I inquired about the guarantee if I spent 5-digits for trifocal lenses. I was told there are risks with any procedure. They don't offer guarantees. Their goal is to provide better vision. Glasses may still be necessary at some distances. When someone is going to remove your eye (lenses), there should be more confidence in the work performed. The next place I visited was significantly more expensive, but promises 20-20 vision or money back, no glasses, and 10-year guarantee on service. read more

First, you will not see an actual optometrist here. Technicians do the work and the Dr will just rubber stamp the prescription. I ended up having problems with my prescription the second time I visited. I have worn progressives and never had an issue. I was getting my existing frames updated with a new prescription, this should have been easy. I was told the previous prescription (done at this same location) was wrong. So, when they updated and "fixed it", I could no longer look at my computer screen without getting dizzy. On top of that, the front counter employees could not care less if you get helped in timely manner. They forget to let people know you're there for an appointment and you'll waste an hour of your time because you assume they have. I ended up having to go back multiple times and basically never got my prescription fixed. I ended up having to take my business elsewhere. read more

They called my phone almost every day to confirm the appointment which I already confirmed when I booked it and then I showed up 10 minutes late to my first ever appointment that I had at this location at 7:15AM and the receptionist had the audacity to tell me to leave and reschedule even though the appointment is 1hr to 1hr 30 long. I understand me being late is inviting issues but not to the point that the person in front of me is being straight up unprofessional. The representatives are very rude and overall unprofessional and there's a reason why they have a 2 start rating and are losing business. Awful. read more

I have night blindness caused by scarring from RK. I went to Dr. Haq at Key-Whitman for many years, and he offered no solution. A friend who was having eye surgery suggested I go see her doctor. He was fabulous. He said surgery was not the answer and sent me to Dr. Fagala who prescribed Sclera lenses. I can now drive at night!!! And distinguish curbs, sidewalks, etc. at night. The lenses are not cheap, but they are life-changing! read more

I paid for an order of contacts here in February and had no updates about it. The optometrist put in my order and said that they might take a bit but she would make sure the office lets me know about the status soon. No call. I finally called in March to see what was up. I understand that my prescription is strong and that it may take a while for them to be made. But when I called in June, they said that they'd need to get hold of the optometrist for my order and that they would call me back. No call. I didn't think to question why they would need to contact the optometrist for an order I already placed like wouldn't the office be capable of dealing with it? Anyways, I didn't call again until July where they gave me the same excuse. I called for the third time in the same week and again. So today in August (after 5 months of placing my order) I finally asked why it is taking so long and AGAIN the same excuse of them needing to have the optometrist before telling me the status of my contacts order. They promised (yet again) that they will reach me by the end of today. If I don't get a call by the end of today, then I'm getting my $600 back. THAT'S AFTER INSURANCE TOO BY THE WAY! So yeah don't come here unless you want your contacts held hostage and want to play hide and seek with lazy reception. I'm just a dumb people pleasing idiot who took 5 months to muster up the courage to ask for what I paid for. read more

My experience at this group ophthalmology practice was good, but not great. The entire routine visit also took two hours and 10 minutes to complete. The support staff were pleasant, thorough, and efficient. However, they did something which I found questionable. Having noticed a mild cataract in one of my eyes, the technician asked me if I wanted to take the extra time to complete the preoperative cataract-removal paperwork, in case my doctor found that the cataract might merit surgery. In other words, even though I might not need it and my doctor hadn't even examined me to assess the cataract severity yet, I was asked if I wanted to be administratively prepped for surgery. As it turned out, my cataract did not merit consideration of surgery. My brief visit with the ophthalmologist was thorough and my exam, doctor assessment and future follow-up was all covered. What I found disappointing that the ophthalmologist seemed to lack friendliness or empathy. read more

My son paid his $50 copay on Monday and the a doctor at this Center wanted to see him for a follow up visit on Friday. They said there would be an additional charge of $50 this day as well. Unacceptable! The first copay should cover this same week follow up visit. Unethical too. read more

To say this place is unprofessional and unorganized is an understatement. I had blurry vision so spent four hours with them on 12.15 getting a new script. Paid $700 for new glasses and contact which should be ready in 2 weeks. I finally called them yesterday asking why they weren't ready yet, they said they called me on 12.28 and left a message that both were ready (even though I have no record of that call) and I can pick them up at 7:15. I rearranged work and childcare to pick them up, after a half hour of "searching" for the glasses they said they couldnt find them and have NO RECORD of them being purchased. I selected KWEC right after my insurance coverage kicked in. I went in to their eye center in N.Dallas off North Central Expressway thinking this would be a great experience. I ended up needing to get my new glasses fixed, and KWEC charged me $100 for fixing my glasses, this was after paying almost $1000 for glasses that weren't designer glasses. I have since started going to Warby Parker and have been going to WP for 2.5 years and will probably continue when it's time to get my next pair of glasses. Bottom line I paid almost 1/3 of the price for my glasses at WP that I paid almost $1000 at KWEC and I have the same features on my WP glasses that I have on the glasses I bought at KWEC, where does that make $ense. read more

I was struggling with my eyesight and was not a fan of glasses. Reading or otherwise. About 10yrs ago I had lasik surgery and it seemed to work terrific until it didn't. I visited Dr. Haq for my annual eye exam. The staff confirmed cataract and fog in my eyesight. Dr. Haq performed the survey with skill and expertise. I've been seeing Dr Warren at Key-Whitman for years, and I can honestly say I've never had a bad experience. Dr Warren is warm, genuine, and professional. The rest of the staff is friendly, easy to talk to, and also professional. Whenever Dr Warren gets tied up and I have to see another doc, it's still a good experience. I go there for my annual "diabetes" eye checkup, meaning they check my eyes for damage that can be caused by high blood sugar (typically a problem with diabetics who don't take care of themselves). They also do the usual eye checkup stuff: cover one eye and read the letters, next line down, next line down, etc etc, and they do a more thorough check if you're not 20/20. They have some pretty high tech equipment to check both your vision and special stuff, like parts of my diabetic eval. Everyone is nice and professional, and it's a nice enough office. Location is central and convenient. The worst I can say is sometimes there's a bit of a wait when things are very hectic, but even that's not typically too bad. read more

My appointment was at 12:30 and they told me to arrive early so I did and I waited there for over two hours asking questions what happened to my appointment and all they could say is they were very busy. This is not the way, you operate as a professional company not caring about your patience. Your office staff need more training and less attitude. I spend the majority of my time fighting my health insurer for basic, affordable access to healthcare which apparently I am not worthy of as a human and your staff cemented that this morning an hour and a half before an appointment with Dr. Warren (who I love, she is wonderful). I desperately needed this appointment as my vision is becoming so blurry at night that I can't read anything with or without my glasses. But since your staff are more worried at Blue Cross Blue Shield signing my permission slip for a fun field trip to yet another doctor instead of treating me as a human first and saying "let's get you in and worry about your insurance after we make sure you aren't going blind" I suppose I will just sit around and wait to see which happens first- I lose my vision or BCBSTX does what they're supposed to do, and I'm not holding my breath on the latter. read more

I was greeted or rather accosted at the front door by two people that looked like martians. They were pushy and rude and said they were screening people for COVID-19. No where else has any company been so forcefully rude. I had to fill out pages and pages of repeated information before I saw the technician. They charged me $400.00 for an eye exam and I still haven't gotten an Rx for my contacts. They want to force me to buy them through their office I guess. This place is a mess. They haven't even fixed up the building since last October's storms. Boards are still over their windows. They are obviously over-stretched. This has been an unpleasant expensive and hack job. I went in to be screened for cataract surgery. They neglected to tell me I might need a referral from my primary care physician first. So that was a total waste of time which could have been easily avoided by competent office staff. After getting the referral, I went back for the screening which went well until the end. That's when optometrist Sadaf Razi got involved. She's not a pleasant person, and she wanted to rush in and out as quickly as she could. Before she left, she said I would be required to have someone come with me to attend the surgeries and take me home. She said there was a law I couldn't take public transportation such as a taxi. She also said they would need preapproval from my insurance company before proceeding. But over a week later, the insurance company hadn't heard from them. So I called Key-Whitman and learned they were waiting for some sort of approval from some specialist. So I called back my insurance company to ask about this, and they have no such requirement. Everything just seemed off to me. I started getting a bad feeling that something weird was going on. Like they were hiding something or who knows what. So I googled them for problems, and BINGO! They are accused of using non-FDA approved drugs and are being sued for causing blindness to several of their patients. I don't know about you, but that tells me to run fast, run far!!! read more

I had my eyes checked at Key Whitman and I also filled my prescription with new glasses to the tune of over $400. My new distance prescription was for sunglasses. Within 24 hours I had a headache and I glasses prescription was too strong. I took the glasses back and the Tech at Key Whitman said the prescription was correct and he said I needed to have my eyes examined again. After spending over 1.5 hours having my eyes examined the first time I was not going to have the prescription was correct. I think the prescription was not correct when it was filled and I wanted them to fix the glasses. The Tech said my vision had not changed much since my last visit and the Whitman Tech seemed to think I may not have needed new glasses. The Tech said they have a company policy that they will not refund my money. I think Key Whitman is taking advantage of a 70 year old person who is handicapped. I cannot have some one sitting in a hot car when it is over 100 degrees just to recheck my glasses. The prescription should have been correct the first time. I left the new glasses frame and new lenses at Key Whitman. read more

I had a horrible experience today at Key Whitman eye center. I had a schedualed appointmet with Dr. Warren. She was referred to my by my physcian and insurance plan. I had vetted her and seen her has a new patient months prior. She was the only doctor I requested to see. She took me in has new patient. Then said she would see me for followup in few months. I had many questions to ask her. Was excited about the appointment. Week /Days prior I had verified the appointment twice by phone about the appointment with D. Warren. Everything was confirmed. I even had a card with her name on it and appointment. I got to the appointment on time. They had switched me with Dr. Hurst who I did not know or ask for. I was shocked. I had driven for close to an hour to be at appointment and found they had switched doctors without courtesy of informing me in reasonable time. I was also shocked at the staff insenitivity and coldness. I did not want to see Dr. Hurst. After sitting there and them not honoring my appointment with Dr. Warren, reviewed Dr. Hurst and found flags in his medical licensing history showing malpractice type incident in his record. I am shocked key whitman would use deceptive practices and not have courtesy to contact me that the appointment was swithched with another doctor and not disclose to me on the various occasions a contacted them. I am dissapointed with the staff and adminitrative practices by key whitman that could compromise patient care and lack of customer service courtesty to patient. I was all excited. Just had an appointment to look at my ability to be a lasik candidate. Good news is that yes even at 53 I am a good candidate. Bad need is the advertising they do about 250 dollars an eye is at best misleading and at worst and outright falsehood. I was quoted $3500 for the surgery. Over 7 times more than the price on line that was used to lure me in to a sales presentation. I think it would be interesting to know just how many surgeries they do at $250 and eye. Something that maybe the state attorney general should look into? Guessing this is like the tires that are advertised at such a low cost but those tires don't fit any car on the road and your price is double the advertised. I might have even moved forward with the price being doubled. Though my eyes are in great shape I do realize I am a bit older than the typical candidate. But 7 times more with no eye issues??? Seems a bait and switch and I would strongly suggest you avoid this business. I feel sorry for the people that work there as you could tell that the assistant/nurse was a bit embarrassed by the whole charade. Well at least I got out of there before they dialated my eyes and wasted more of my day. read more

Background: I went in for a pre-LASIK consultation after wearing glasses and contacts for years, using a Groupon special. First, the Good: The clinical support staff was among the best I've ever seen. Kind, compassionate and thorough. If I had a eye problem I wouldn't hesitate to go there. Now the Not-So-Good: I think the "Refraction Counselor" used to be a used car saleswoman. The whole thing felt very factory-like and high pressure. I was being asked to schedule my surgery before I had been able talk to a medical professional. The legal disclaiming forms were ridiculous (please answer these questions from the video and copy this sentence by hand). When I finally got to the Optometrist (you don't normally get to meet with the actual surgeon before the surgery), she was not very helpful. She sincerely apologized for the high pressure tactics in the beginning, but really couldn't answer my questions. Questions like, "What are the statistical chances of complications?" As I did more research on Wikipedia and lasikcomplications.com, I found out there's at least a 20% chance of permanent complications like dry eyes (needing drops for the rest of your life) or worse. Bottom line: Key-Whitman is not going to treat you like a real person or tell you the real risks of LASIK. I'll pass for now. read more

I waited 45 minutes before being seen for LASIK consultation. 2 techs did various tests and provided no explanation as to what they were doing or why. The tech performs your vision test not the doctor, which is a little nerve racking. I only met briefly with Dr. Raz and do not believe she performs the actually LASIK surgery. I had concerns on the prescription and they did do a good job explaining it to me though. read more

This place used to be the best of the best and the top of the line. I used to recommend it for everybody. In recent years it became terrible. I had my Lasik are 10 years ago. I do annual appointments to check my vision, and to maintain my Lasik warranty, where are they will redo the LASIK for free if something goes wrong , as long as I do it my annual appointments. After this year I will not be coming back, I don't even care about the warranty. Something is amiss with these people. Plano location nurse manager was rude and nasty to me. I was trying to explain to her that I like to be dilated every other year, and that's what I've been doing for 10 years. She insisted I needed to get dilated asap, I'm not sure why, are they that desperate for revenue?! I asked for a manager, she said she was. I asked to see one of the doctors, she refused. She said they will not be providing any kind of service to me unless I get dilated. My long-term relationship with this provider ended with this lady, who has very warped ideas of customer service. This place is a meat grinder. The assistant was nice and thorough, but the doctor was clearly rushing through the motions. I did not get any questions or explanations of my sight or prescription. Well, not entirely true, she did ask "any questions" as she walked towards the door. She was more concerned about the next person, and the person after that and the person after that. The tech at the front desk forgot to give me my prescription and I had to request it as they were shuffling me out the door. This place is all about volume and peddling overpriced eyedrops. I am 36 years old and was diagnosed by "another unnamed company" with cataracts in both eyes. My first experience with this company was pretty on par for what you would expect from the general magical profession. It was a hurried experience with little knowledge about care, where most of the time was spent on pushing a product, and payment plan. Then.......... I walked into the Plano office of Key-Whitman. I spent about an hour with Amanda (due to my poor sight I couldn't read her last name) who absolutely blew me away with her knowledge about cataracts and her passion for what she does every day with patients like me. She was articulate, kind, patient and her love for what she does every day was extremely apparent. I was shocked when I learned that she was as she put it "a tech". Her attention to detail, and ability to articulate and connect with me about what I was experiencing with my eyesight set the bar incredible high from my previous experience. Should everyone else at Key- Whitman Plano be half as good as Amanda, then I have found a place I can trust to operate on my eyes. My experience only got better. As I made my way to Dr. ElHaffar, she laid out all of the diagnosis, and took a lot of time to explain every detail of what I was going through with my diagnosis, and all of the options for treatment that I had. I was blessed by her transparency and desire for me to know the positives and negatives of every option. She never tried to sell me on an idea, but gave me all of the facts about my conditions and all treatment options. I felt like I was speaking with a family member who loved and cared about me deeply. It was an amazing experience. Key- Whitman has attracted wonderful, passionate, experts who love what they do and connect with their patients. If you have any eye issues at all, you owe it to yourself to experience real care with this organization. You would be short sighted not to. Thank you so much to Amanda, Sadaf, and Kimberly. You have made me feel at peace about the next steps of correcting my vision. I am so thankful I made the choice to get a second opinion with you. read more

I got my LASIK here about 4 years ago and really liked it. The staff and doctors here are really nice and friendly. I haven't had any problems with my eyes so far. The wait is never long and I don't feel like just another number. I would recommend anybody who is considering LASIK to come see Dr. Whitman or Dr. Haq. read more
