I was at Key Whitman to see Dr. Hong to check on a double vision issue I was experiencing. We normally go to the north location and hadn't been to this location on Arbrook. Wow, what a beautiful clinic complete with a huge eyeglass selection. The staff was SO friendly. I was called back before my appointment so some "readings" could be taken before I met with Dr. Hong. Anna, the tech, was so friendly and cheerful. She made quick work of the tests that needed to be run. After a short wait, I met with Dr. "Amy" Hong. I've been seeing her for several years now. She's wonderful! We talked and checked my vision. Without out getting into details, we figured out what was going on. I'll be back to see her in a couple of weeks. AWESOME experience. My annual eye exam is a necessary and important choice. I like the quality of ophthalmologists and options offered in terms of appointments. I do not like the wait sometimes from check in to check out. Efficiency needs some improvement but staff is very nice and professional. Like the new building this office has with easy parking. Overall, good quality of care, sometime average turnaround time but trustworthy. read more

On the Key Whitmans site they say (direct quote from their website) "reviews mention issues with billing, long wait times, and outdated facilities". They do not mention bodily injuries which is what happen to me. The whole experience feels like an assembly line for people from start to finish, When I went in for my surgery, they took me from room to room for prep, one room was to put the IV in, they had the room dark because they were trying to get my eyes dialated so they could quickly rush me to another room before taking me to the surgery room, a man quickly walked in and took my arm and stuck the needle in, he did not even turn the lights on and did not put a tourniquit on my arm or ask me to make a tight fist in order to see the vein, it was so quick that I said "wow no one has ever hit my vein the first try". In the days to come I noticed my arm swelling around the injection site, it was the size of an egg and the bruising just kept spreading until it covered most of my arm, I was in SEVERE PAIN. I went to the ER then my doctor, they said it was a 'Blown Vein' which means the iv needle went in the vein and came back out the other side causing the fluid to go into my arm instead of the vein, I learned from the ER that is could been life threatening. When I went back in to Key Whitman for my check up with Dr Agnew, he saw it and just laughed saying that happens to my Mom all the time as he rushed out of the room, a nurse noticed it as I was leaving and said 'oh my gosh, have you reported it'. Dan Chambers heard about it and quickly called me and said send pictures and the doctors report and we will talk after I get that, I personally brought everything into him, weeks later I still have not heard from him because they don't care and what difference would another bad review make. I strongly recommend reading the many negative reviews, I hope no one has to go through what I did and the severe pain that came with it for over 6 weeks. read more

My mother had a consultation for her cataracts. The staff was amazing! They did a very comprehensive eye exam on her, including dilating her eyes and retinal photography. The MD was so very informative. He explained what cataracts are and have us literature to review about the subject. We look forward to continuing our relationship with Key Whitman! Also, to digress. I've seen other reviews stating that they didn't like the billing practices etc. If you ACTUALLY READ the New Patient paperwork, it's explained that you will have to pay for an eye exam etc at your visit. Take an ophthalmology class before your visit!  Ask a LOT of questions, I now see blurry and like I'm in a fishbowl when I look out (NEVER have in 65 years) After spending 2 mins with Dr Barke and him saying when this is done you'll have 20/20 vision, I didn't ask any questions bc I didn't take ophthalmology class and thought that meant perfect vision, it doesn't.  They did many many tests on my eyes and knew I was near-sighted at that point.  I've always been near-sighted and didn't want that to change, I was happy with only wearing glasses to drive. And I told the technician that.  She set me up with near-sighted lenses.  I called back in a couple days to reschedule my appointment and she off handedly said oh Dr Barke says you won't be happy.  I asked why, she couldn't explain and transferred me to someone else who also couldn't explain why Dr Barke said I wouldn't be happy.  Never did anyone offer to have Dr Barke explain what he meant or ask me if I would like to speak to him. I should have insisted on speaking with Dr Barke, however once again, I explained to the technicians that I had only ever worn glasses for driving and would like to keep it that way, I don't want to wear reading glasses.  Well I can read but everything else is a big blur and like looking out of a fishbowl.  I have never worn glasses in my house, but now, if I don't want to be dizzy and nauseous and blurry and look out of a fishbowl, I must wear glasses always.  Dr Barke was right, I am not happy.  We have postponed the 2nd eye indefinitely, and still no word from Dr Barke.  As I was told yesterday, it's too late now, you got what you chose.  NO, I DID NOT CHOOSE TO HAVE BLURRY VISION AND FEEL LIKE I'M LOOKING OUT OF A FISHBOWL.  NOBODY EVER MENTIONED THAT WAS AN OPTION, I DEFINITELY WOULD NOT HAVE CHOSEN IT. I could go on and on about how their follow-up visit took over 2 hours sitting in a room, but that is MILD compared to my sight at this point. read more

My first surgery went well however my second surgery was mess due to after care appointment I missed due to no text and their very lack of communication I had to call five times unknowing that all my phone calls were going to a guy at some phone center even though I thought I was calling the North Arlington office I was mostly chastised for missing my 8:30 appointment it literally took till 4 in the afternoon to get to talk with my counselor who I had extremely good rapport with ended up not getting an appointment till 9:30 on Monday. So I went all weekend needing my aftercare visit simply because of their lack of caring and lack of even the simplest respect for a person. I highly recommend that everybody avoid them and not use their services. There's plenty of other places to get cataract surgery without going through these folks! read more

I have been to Key Whitman twice for cataract lens replacement surgery, and both visits have been the worst experience I have ever had at any doctor in my life. Dr. Sanchez and Dr. Hong are the most rude, arrogant, uncaring and unprofessional people I have ever dealt with. I came to Key Whitman looking for a doctor or who could help me decide which cataract lens replacement was best for me, and both doctors treated me with complete disdain and downright abuse simply for wanting to ask some questions and have a conversation about what is best for my eyes. Honestly, I was, and still am, astonished at how I was treated. These two doctors have no business working in any medical field. Dr. Hong actually told me that she only had time for one more question, that she needed to get to her next patient. I had only been talking to her for about five minutes. Needless to say I got up and walked out. If you are looking to have cataract surgery you need a doctor who will spend the time to answer your questions and help guide you to the best decision. These doctors will not spend the time to help you, and are very rude to you for even asking them to spend the time. Incidentally, I waited three weeks to get in to see Dr. Hong only to be told she didn't have time for me to ask questions. I would strongly recommend that you look for another doctor if you are needing cataract surgery, or any surgery for that matter. read more

I had a lasik procedure here 2-3 years ago and come in annually thereafter for checkups. While I don't have an issue with the procedure itself, this location has a serious issue with timeliness. It is the norm to wait over an hour in the waiting room before being seen, then to wait an extremely lengthy time in the procedure room for the doctor to actually come in. If it is expected that the patient arrive within 15 minutes of their scheduled time, it should also be expected that the doctors and employees be held to these standards. There are 15+ other patients in this waiting room with me right now, and every single one of them is complaining that they have been waiting over an hour. Two of the patients claim that the South location is just as bad as well. If I would have known about the lack of respect for patient's time that this company has, I would absolutely not have selected Key Whitman to do business with. I will not recommend them to anyone and will be sure to others know about their awful scheduling and lack of concern for patient's time. read more

Top notch care! I have Dr. Faber as my eye doctor...and just had cataract surgery (2nd eye was today even!) with Dr. Barke. Their communication with me was amazing. They even send reminders via text if that is ok with you. If I ever forget an appointment, I just go to the patient portal (but they do give you paperwork that spells out all appointments...so forgetting is on me, not them!). All of the cataract surgery pre-op and post-op work was very well documented. The folks are friendly and always seem to have my best interest at heart! read more

Took my mother-in-law to see Dr. Barke. He has a poor bedside manner. Everyone else in the clinic is good.

The reader portion of the bifocals they prescribed had less "ADD" (i.e. they were weaker) than the "readers" I had been using; thus, I can only use these new EXPENSIVE glasses for distance, and I am very disappointed and unhappy. I also wanted a retinal evaluation and they refused to perform it. read more

After making my appointment I realized that I needed to push it to an earlier time. I called back immediately and requested to speak to Cristian but the lady insisted that she would be able to help me. She confirmed with me that my appointment would be changed. Two weeks later I receive an automated text to confirm my appointment. I noticed the time was incorrect and called to make sure it wasn't an error. Only to be told that the physicians wouldn't be in. I did not receive any calls in regards to the schedule change but apparently there was no records of me calling back to reschedule my time. This seems very unprofessional and an inconvenience to their potential patient. read more

I have used Dr. Barke and Dr. Faber for several years - before they were merged with Key-Whitman. I go for the doctors, and the support staff has always been courteous and efficient. Billing practices have become a bit more tedious since the entry of the Key-Whitman moniker, but my insurance still covers me well. read more

The only reason this has 2 stars is because my wife liked the doctor. Their accounting practices are very shady. Upon presenting our insurance information, my wife was asked "Do you have medical?" to which she replied yes, because we do. She was not asked are you using "vision insurance" and therefore we were surprised with a high bill due to "not covered" diagnostics because "they didn't know we had vision." because they used round-about means to make sure they "didn't know". They "cannot fix it" because it was already put through to medical because the diagnostics were already done. read more

We will not be coming back. This was a first time visit for a specific eye issue. Right away they ask for medical insurance and not vision insurance. You are pretty much forced or as was the case with us, trick you into signing a form that binds you to paying for a refraction. The receptionist had me sign electronically while not showing me what I was signing. She just gave a one to two sentence explanation for each form. The "doctor" took a look at my eye and could not figure out what was the issue. But they did decide, without asking me, that I needed a refraction for $55. They also tried to sell me other procedures that I would have to pay out of pocket, which I refused. I left with an eyeglass prescription and samples I really didn't need. When I was waiting for my turn to pay, I noticed there was a woman before me who was trying to communicate in Spanish with the receptionist. Instead of finding a translator, the receptionist got the genius idea of TALKING LOUDER to this poor patient as if the patient were deaf or slow. That is not very nice and the employee, if well-trained, should know better. After coming home, I called KW to discuss the billing. I told them I had very good vision insurance and if they could bill them for the refraction. The billing person refused, saying I should file a claim myself. She also said that every person who has a visit will require a refraction. What I don't understand is why this visit was being billed as a regular exam as opposed to a problem-focused exam. I worked in insurance billing and this seems shady to me. Clearly, we were there for a problem. If we wanted to get a vision exam with refraction, we would have gone elsewhere and used our vision insurance. I really don't appreciate the shady billing, the insensitive receptionist, the slimy way you tricked us into signing forms, and the way your business nickel and dimes the patients. PEOPLE, WATCH EVERYTHING YOU SIGN, AND DON'T LET THEM BULLY/TRICK YOU INTO GETTING UNNECESSARY PROCEDURES. BEWARE OF GIVING THEM YOUR MEDICAL HEALTH INSURANCE INFORMATION BEFORE VISION INSURANCE. THEY WILL PUSH YOU TO USE MEDICAL BECAUSE MEDICAL WON'T COVER REFRACTION AND THEY CAN SHAKE YOU DOWN FOR THE CASH. We will not be coming back and I will most likely not get reimbursed for the refraction from my vision insurance. We all work hard for our money, especially during this pandemic. I am writing this comment for my husband who is the patient. When we register at the front desk, the form given has so many questions about your MEDICAL INSURANCE. I refused to give them our Medical Insurance Provider information and told them they HAVE NO REASON TO NEED OUR MEDICAL INSURANCE because this is for Vision annual routine exam. The excuse given by the receptionist is that it may be needed later on by our General Physician, at that point, which I answer "then we will provide our doctor ourself". My husband liked the optometrist but it scares me when they ask for all sorts of important information that can be subjected to abuse or even theft. read more

I went in because I noticed something in my eye I've never seen before. I'm not eye an eye specialist and I came here to talk to a professional about my concerns. The doctor was a female and was located at the south Arlington location. She made me feel dumb because I expressed my concerns about my eye. I'm a firefighter and I took a day off work because I worried I had something in my eye. She was not interested in what I was saying and instead she would point out how expensive the machine was and that she sees nothing in my eye. I have a deductible I have to meet before my insurance kicks in and i feel like she thought I was there to waste her time when I truly felt like I had a problem and had to pay upfront for the services. I paid almost $100 for two minutes of care where all she did was make me feel stupid and dumb. I'm very disappointed I had a family member with me and she even noticed the Drs. I went to Key-Whitman to get a prescription for contacts. I was told I would be see by an optometrist, not an MD. They assured me that their optometrists are "specialists," "not like the ones at Wal Mart and the mall." So, I agreed to come in. What ended up happening was that my eyes were examined by an OA, optometry assistant, with the optometrist coming in for less than two minutes. I went home with the sample contacts only to find that road signs were blurry. So, I went back to Key Whitman and was again see by the OA. Even with the new prescription, I still can't see well. I looked up the training of OAs. It is a part time, online course. So my eyes were examined by someone who took a quickie online course, not a trained professional optometrist. No wonder I can't see. read more
