Perfectly nice people, but challenging service model. On DAY OF MOVE they left me an EMAIL indicating that they weren't showing up, 'staffing issues'. No phone call, an email. I called all day, no answer/call back the entire day until evening. Unfortunately I had people moving in the next day and was told it would be 4 days until they could get to it. No prioritization efforts for their error, 'things happen' is what I was told. My tenant had to postpone their move-in by 4 days and I had to prorate their rent - $400 cost to me. Elevators reserved, people waiting at receiving location all cancelled and reset. In addition, prior to the move I sent pictures and measurements of the stairwell it was going up. I was told 'it will fit, no need for us to come look at it'. When they arrived it didn't fit. Baby grand is now in storage (costing me), will be sold (I wouldn't have moved to this location had they not told me it would fit) and I no longer have a piano to play. VERY DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE. $400 in missed rent due to no show + $200 a month for storage + $5/k for piano + $400 piano move charges = $6/k in total loss with this company. I recently used this service on June 18, 2024, to move my daughter's baby grand piano from Naperville to Plainfield. I chose this company because of their excellent reviews on Yelp and the extensive experience of their staff, particularly one of their movers with 17 years of experience. On the day of the move, I paid their moving service plus $20 per person, totaling $60 in tips which I paid in cash. Unfortunately, shortly after the move, I discovered a black chip on the floor. Upon inspection, I realized it was a piece from my piano. Additionally, I noticed a small crack on the left side of the piano and a broken corner. I immediately sent pictures of the damage to the worker's phone number (847-337-...) at 4:18 pm. He responded that he would inform the boss and arrange for a technician to fix the problems. Since then, I have not received any follow-up calls. I called their office and missed their callback. In the voicemail, they indicated that the damage was due to previous movers and not their staff. To clarify, my daughter provided a picture of the piano taken just a few weeks ago, showing it in perfect condition. She sends her practice video to her piano teacher almost weekly as she has been preparing for an international piano competition. This piano was made in 2018 and is a precious item for my family. We specifically chose this company based on their ratings and reviews. I am very disappointed with how they handled the situation and the lack of responsibility taken for the damage. An absolute joy to work with. I was contacted by Kevin and his movers shortly after purchasing a Kawai CA901 hybrid piano and they were able to set up a time window for the next week. Fast forward to this week and I received my piano in pristine condition. The movers called in advance to notify that they were 25 minutes out and I genuinely appreciated that! They came even earlier in the morning and moved the heavy piano to my apartment on the second floor without a single dent or scratch in the most efficient, timely way possible. ZERO stars if I could. They give you a broad window for when they'll be here. We all know that's extremely inconvenient as arrangements around work & child care have to be made in order to accommodate but ok, it is what it is. I was told on the day I would get a more exact time frame: I heard nothing. I tried calling: nothing. I tried texting: nothing. Crickets. Forget the fact that I have other things scheduled around the time they gave me, that I reserved 2 elevators in 2 buildings (and had to pay for that), and that I've got maintenance men essentially waiting for me to operate those elevators, they are nowhere to be found. They just... didn't show up, didn't communicate, didn't answer. Great business model. If you like reliability, DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY!!! read more

We had a baby grand we needed to move from our 2nd floor condo into our new single family home. Initially when we had the piano moved into our condo, we had used regular movers which was a bad experience and ended up in several damaged parts and needing to hire a specialist to fix several components. This time around my wife found Kevin's Piano Moving. Huge difference in experience. Within 15-20 minutes of arriving, they were able to disassemble and load the piano into their truck making it look easy peasy compared to the previous movers. My only gripe was I wish there was a bit better communication on day of. We were provided a two hour window scheduled slot and were under the impression they would arrive at the beginning of that time slot. They ended up arriving about an hour late, but as I mentioned they moved quick and piano was delivered to it's final destination in the same condition it was picked up in. Had a baby grand that I inherited. Upon arrival from the shipping company, was told that it wouldn't fit down my staircase to the basement library where I wanted it and that I needed to leave it on the first floor. Something about the trolley needed to slide the piano down the stairs adding extra height to the piano, and thus making it not fit. I ended up rearranging all the dining room and living room furniture on the first floor to accommodate the piano, but everything didn't feel right. I emailed a few local piano movers, and Kevin responded promptly. Sent him some photos explaining the situation, and he said he'd come by and take care of it. Twenty four hours later, the piano's in the basement, unscathed. No scratches on the wall either. The moving team was courteous and professional. Put on booties prior to entering the house. One place was going to charge me double what Kevin's Piano Moving did. They called me 15 minutes out and arrived promptly and had the studio upright in the truck in no time. We didn't hire them. Our neighbor did to love a piano from our house to theirs. Told my neighbor they needed to be masked to do this. There are immunocompromised people on my house. Three guys show up - an hour after original window. Kevin in the lead (it's his father's company.) Kevin's walking in, I ask him where his mask is, he says he's vaccinated and doesn't need one. Then he says he'll wear it inside. When I ask him to put it on, he pulls out an old bandanna and ties it over his face. I explain that won't work (why must I explain thus 18 months into a pandemic?) Kevin keeps saying "it'll be okay" but he's not listening. Finally, one of the other two gets him a surgical mask, which he's got under his nose now. Says he'll pull it up inside, but why would I trust him? Doubt he's even vaccinated, given how many excuses he made not to be wearing a mask at all (his crew was.) Only reason I let them in after all this BS was the neighbors who did hire have other things to worry about. If I'd been hiring, would've sent them away after the first exchange. I used Kevin's Piano Moving in January to move my baby grand from a second floor condo to a house. I was given a three hour window arrival time and the crew showed up on the earlier side of that window. They also called to let me know when they were on their way. The team of Kevin, Chris and Gary were phenomenal! They realized how much a piano means to an owner and mine was no exception. I am amazed how simple they make this look. The piano was properly blanketed, strapped and the three of them placed it on a board to get it slid down the stairs. It arrived at the new place within a matter of minutes and the set up was made to look just as effortless for them. Blankets were put down on the carpet for them to stand in while the legs and piano lyre where put on; they positioned the piano as I had requested and had it set up in a very short amount of time. Very friendly crew and did not mind me watching and conversing with them as they worked. I also have a digital piano that I delayed having moved a month later. Again Kevin's Piano Moving was called and gave me my window of arrival time. Second time was Allen, Ed and Eddie, also a very personable crew. These gentlemen too made it all look so easy. This is a temporary move so when I get to do this again, I will not let any other company move my pianos.
