From my very first appointment I knew Dr. Young would now be my regular doctor. I then referred both my mother and brother to him and he is now our family's doctor. Before I scheduled my first appointment the very hard working receptionist, Adrian, advised me that often Dr. Young runs late for a couple of legitimate reasons. 1) He is the only doctor in the office and 2) He is a surgeon's assistant and, well, you don't rush surgeries. Adrian said it would be a good idea to call ahead of time on your appointment day to see if he was indeed running late as to not inconvenience you. Dr. Young is super thorough and considerate of your concerns. It is refreshing to be with a doctor who listens to his patients and not just talks. He has a very calm demeanor and talks softly which is comforting. Dr. Young's staff is on point too. Adrian handles the front desk flawlessly, Blanca triages you with skill and a friendly word and Michelle goes above and beyond to handle the billing and works tirelessly with the very difficult insurance companies. All in all I plan on staying with this office for a long time.

He never asks her how she's doing and every time she attempts to say something to him, he puts his hand up and says wait a minute and she never gets her questions answered. A visit we had about a month ago, towards the end he said, "I think we're done" and I said "no we're not, there's something I would like to discuss with you." And yells and says, "yes we are done! I've been in here with you guys over an hour and I have other patients to see!" I could not believe my ears!!!! So he realized what he said and finally discussed the other issue. So I took my mother for a follow up visit yesterday and he yelled at her for taking 2 of the same meds that HE prescribed to her, which was causing her to throw up, due to HIS MISTAKE!! So basically he had been over medicating her!! Then he requested that she gets lab work done downstairs. Once we got down there, we looked through the stack of papers he handed us and the lab slip was not even in there!!! We had to go back up to the office, mind you my mother's in a wheelchair! By this time I'm in fumes! He's constantly yelling and cursing (which to me is very disrespectful to my elderly mother) at is laptop because he don't know what he's doing. When he walked in the room yesterday morning his rude a** didn't even speak, he takes personal phone calls during her visits with him and then step out the room as if we have all day to be in there. There's signs all over that says no cel phones, so I believe he should reciprocate the same respect. I am so over this man. I don't know what his problem is. It seems like something outside of his practice is consuming him and he has lost sight of his career or he is overwhelmed with patients because that place is ran pretty much like a free clinic. My mother has been seeing him every since they were on San Bruno Ave. She's been seeing him for over 30 years and she deserves far better treatment than that. Yesterday was her last visit with him. I will be finding her a new doctor. I don't recommend anyone seeing him.

He's always been able to diagnose everything I had and gave me the proper level treatment. Heart and skin problems are just a few of the things he has helped me with. To be honest, he helped me with my skin condition way better than a dermatologist I recently went to did. And for the things he doesn't have the capability to help me with, he would refer me to great doctors that would definitely be able to help me. I'm sure he has a wide range of doctors through his network. Anytime I have a medical concern, he's the first person I would go to because I know he will be able to help me in one way or another. I read the reviews on yelp and the reason why some of them are bad are because of the customer service. Honestly, It's probably because they called outside of business hours. Dr. Kawano has some kind of call center that takes calls when the front desk is unavailable. The call center is questionable but the lady at the front desk is very sweet. Ive never had a bad experience with her and she's always been nice to me since I was a kid. If someone has had a bad experience with her, I would give her the benefit of the doubt because she truly is a good person.

His website stated he is accepting new patients. The person on the phone was extremely rude, did not even let me finish my statement. Here's how it went: me:"Hi, I'd like to make an appointment, is Dr. Kawano accepting..." Dr's office person: "No he is not" me: "OK, but your website states that he is...." Dr's office person: "Uh huh, yes it does" me: "So..." Dr's office person: "No he is not" me: "is there another doctor in your practice who is accepting patients?" (since several doctors are listed at the 1 Baywood location) Dr's office person: "no we are a single person practice" me: "OK... You should change the..." She hangs up on me This was at the beginning of the day, so she was not tired or stressed already. What the hell? There are lots of doctors out there, perhaps Dr Kawano needs to review his office staff.

Her words with respect to Caro's opinion: to a carpenter, everything looks like a hammer. Dr. Caro could also not offer any real explanation for present symptoms, but cautioned me to not ride my bike, my primary mode of transport, for the duration. It all felt a bit like guess-work, a.k.a. what I'd been doing in the confines of my own home prior to seeking treatment. A return visit to Dr. Caro is now not forthcoming. The two receptionists I dealt with were, sort of, two sides of the same coin: one was personable, efficient & present; the other one had an off-putting, distracted manner. The best bit was when she coughed directly & at length into the telephone receiver after asking me a question. Spoiler alert: I had to repeat the answer. After getting the usual who-are-you info. out of the way, I was told this: you'll be asked for a urine sample, so come prepared! I took that to mean that there would be no water fountain in the office & I had better schlep my own water to the appointment-which I did. Upon entering the office, I immediately saw a water cooler set up with cups for patients' use & I thought to myself, duh, it's a urologist's office, dummy. In addition to being told to come prepared, I was also told (in response to my direct question) that this office does indeed accept Blue Cross. My scheduled visit, not two days later, included the following information: as it's the beginning of the year, you may or may not receive a bill for our services. We may or may not be in network (for Blue Cross users). Had I known that at the outset, I would have gone elsewhere. -not keen to potentially pay up to 300 bucks for a urine test/urethra check. The office space itself was tidy & welcoming. --magazines, background music, art on the walls, etc. The medical building is easy to find, located in downtown San Mateo. Dr. Caro's office is located on the ground floor. Bike parking is ample.

Then there's a mandatory waiting period before the operation (to avoid buyer's remorse?). The operation itself was brief and relatively painless. I only felt the needle for the first Novocaine shot, and I've felt worse shots at the dentist. The procedure lasted about 45 minutes, just the doctor and me, chatting and listening to music. This is way preferable to the woman's equivalent operation, which involves an OR, anesthesiologist, serious recuperation, etc. When I got home I applied ice packs (OK, frozen peas) as instructed and didn't have any swelling and only minor pain. The scars immediately after the surgery looked pretty bad, and some bruising developed. I'm kind of glad it was a holiday the day after the procedure, but I was back to work (sitting at a computer) two days after. I felt OK, but took it easy and didn't climb stairs for a few days. The bruising disappeared in a week and the scars took about three weeks to completely disappear. The stitches dissolved and didn't require another visit to take out. Full, um, function returned in a week as the doctor estimated. Dr. Caro is friendly and professional, and obviously knows his stuff. I'd recommend him to anyone contemplating this procedure.

The receptionist was super nice, I was able to get an appointment that very day and once I came in everyone was so nice. They quickly got me inside and the nurse was very nice and attentive to all my symptoms. The doctor is quite the funny guy he cracks jokes as soon as he walks in, which is awesome but also I feel like it stops him from listening to me and taking me seriously but at the same time was funny enough to make me feel comfortable. He sent me away with some antibiotics and some lab work. I didn't get my lab results back until about a week later (even tho I remember him saying I would get them 2 days later) and when I called nobody got back to me I had to call again and speak to the receptionist directly. Overall I would recommend this office the receptionist/nurse is great the doctors pretty good. No real complaints but also nothing crazy.
