What's your favorite fried chicken? FORGET THAT. Kettle's buttermilk fried chicken is simply THE BOMB. It's so good, I don't know what else to say! One order could be shared by 2-3 people, but I think if I'm really hungry, I could finish everything on my own! Even the side cornbread is so good! Ditch the gravy (this one doesn't taste good at all), and have your unlimited fill of honey! I also got to try their clam chowder, which is the best one I've ever had! It's very chunky; it's almost like ingredients with thick soup instead of the other way around! It may be salty to some, but I think this is the type of salty goodness that many people would love. Southern Soul Food is probably one of my most favorite cuisines because it just appeals to me as something that has a total disregard for calories, and instead puts a primer on that hearty and soul-enriching food experience. No wonder Americans generally turn to soul food to soothe their frayed nerves. Southern food is comfort food at best. Kettle has had a great following in their Shang East Wing branch, and I have always heard about this. However, I would always pass by and the tables are full to the brim. I have no patience for long lines, so I have always passed up an opportunity to savor their very popular chicken. When they opened in the SM Aura Skypark, I finally got my chance. One of my rare trips to Aura coincided on what I would call my "Chicken Cheat Day". Being a flexible vegetarian, I allow myself one day every month to break my resolve and treat myself to a piece of chicken chicken - the meat that I let go of last because I just couldn't bear the thought of saying goodbye to fried chicken. But alas, I did. Well, sort of. Anyway, back to Kettle. What I absolutely adore about this spot is the buttermilk fried chicken, which puts a mighty dent in your wallet, but gives you a rather satisfying meal of generously portioned chicken, some cornbread, gravy and a bit of honey. In true Southern fashion, the chicken is best enjoyed with the gravy. I like how it is mildly seasoned and not too overwhelmingly peppery, which is complemented the buttery and rich gravy. I think the cornbread is glorious, and I just want to use it to soak up the drool that drips from my mouth every time I think about it. I would definitely be back. read more

One fine day, I watched the movie Chef before heading to a meeting. Naturally, I was craving for grilled cheese sandwich even before leaving the house, on my way to the meeting, and my stomach was churning as the meeting finished. On my way up, I saw a poster announcing that Kettle has recently opened. I headed straight there and was greeted by their receptionist who led me to a booth. I obviously knew what I wanted - a grilled cheesed sandwich. I'm not sure if it was my intense craving, but I think I heard angels singing when the plate was placed on the table. The sandwich looked glorious! It was big, too! It may seem a bit pricey for some, but given the size of the sandwich, and the abundance of gruyere, fontina, cheddar and parmesan. Plus hello, cheese ain't cheap! With fries as siding to the sandwich, I didn't even finish all of it. I had half the sandwich wrapped to-go and had it for dinner when I got home. We went here for the chicken because we heard good things about it. I gave three stars because of the good service, the great chicken, and the okay salad. Everything else was meh. The chicken was nice and juicy, while the skin was flavorful and crispy. My good praises for their food end there. We got the potato and pork strips but I didn't like it because after the top layer that had shaved parmesan, the rest of the layers were tasteless and the pork was fried so much, it was dry. The gorgonzola pasta was bland as well, I had to keep putting salt to make it edible. The clam chowder was good and on the menu, it said it would be served in a sourdough bowl. They did inform me that they ran out of bread bowls so they substituted it with brioche. I'd come back for the chicken but for that and that alone. read more

Atmosphere: 5 Food: 5 Service: 5 Price:5 Must try: "Shrimp Po boy" and "grilled cheese" The place is cute. Kinda like a mix between a barn and a New York City restaurant (in a good way). The food is where it's at though. I've tried a few things here. People seem to really like the chicken, but boy o boy do I like the "shrimp Po boy". If I'm having a pretty off day, this is where I go to take me back to my happy place. The shrimp Po boy is loaded with lightly breaded shrimps between two crispy pieces of bread (don't know what kind..magic heaven bread?) and its topped with some kind of mustard made by a wizard. Seriously I've never had anything like this piece of art. It also Comes with fries that have habit forming seasoning because I'm addicted to it. I always ask for more. I just wanna put it on everything. I just say though it's not easy to eat. There's so Many shrimps that they keep jumping out of the sandwich. It's alright though I ain't mad at that. The secret is to eat some solo shrimps then attack the sandwich. Price is decent. You get what you pay for I always say. And at kettle I pay for happiness. read more

Did anyone say Pork & Potato Strips? Yes Please! That's order right there was the reason why we first tried Kettle. Lovely strips of potato stacked, one on top of the other with crunch pork belly draped all over it. What's not to love? When ordering the Pork & Potato strips, I'd suggest you ask them to lessen the salt or just add them on your own to taste. While you're there you should also try their Angus RoastBeef Hash, Miso Glazed Salmon, Truffle Gorgonzola and the Smoked Salmon Salad. They're probably my usual orders, well, not all of them and it depends on what I'm in the mood for. I like the service over at Kettle because they're always ready for whatever you might need and they're a friendly bunch. Next time I'm there I would like to try their dessert since as you can probably imagine, I've no space left after the main course. I'd need to remember to save room so I can try their other goodies! It's no wonder that Kettle has two branches in the metro already considering that their food is delicious and has that homestyle touch attached to it that doesn't seem all too common these days with the myriad establishments that are sprouting up all over Manila. My go-to order at Kettle is the buttermilk fried chicken. It's great. My only issue with it would probably be the price tag as it is truly on the steep end. Don't come here if you're on a budget. Other recommended mains are the steak & marrow, truffle gorgonzola pasta, and the miso glazed salmon. Many people have been raving about Kettle, but I don't really get why. It's just normal comfort food, nothing spectacular and overpriced. The interiors feel like a bit of an upscale american diner with seats that give you privacy to catch up with your friends. My friends order the pork and potato chips which they serve in a pile, they also enjoyed their best seller buttermilk chicken with honey. It's nice to have a variety of option on the menu and the clam chowder we tried wasn't too bad with a balance creamy and not too fishy of a flavor. I also ordered a salad which left my wallet 400 php lighter, my taste buds bored and my tummy feeling even more empty than my wallet. Their ice tea is good, but now that I know Kettle overcharges for rather basic food, I'd rather buy my ice tea from CBTL next door and enjoy it on the artificial grass of the rooftop and get some food somewhere else. read more

I recommend you should try out their truffle gorgonzola creamy white sauce and a stick of buttered bread, house fries and the fried chicken platter. I like the pasta with less sauce so it wont be too wet and it should have more leaf to balance out the cream and the bread is toasted but still moist inside. Also my friends had a great meal. Also we've encountered some troubles with the window but they assisted us even they we're frightened. Such a pleasant experience. I recommend you try it out also. read more

Had the fried chicken platter that features all three types of fried chicken (nori, spicy, and regular buttermilk) with sides of cornbread, gravy, spicy honey, and coleslaw. Also had a side of the potato and pork sticks with a side of their spicy aioli. First off, thank goodness we were sharing because if we had gotten another dish it would've been way too much food. So prep yourself for a ton of food if you get the platter, I think it could've fed three people easily. The difference between the fried chickens is incredibly subtle, I almost wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the nori and the original. But you'll recognize the spicy by that burning sensation in your mouth. Chicken was awesome, but I'd suggest not trying to stuff yourself with too much of it, it's rich and heavy. Those potato + pork skins are, in a word, divine. Such a fun started with a couple of san miguel lights, awesome! read more

Kettle is a product of the group of Tender Bob's and has long since been expanding their offerings in the meat eating world, however in Kettle, their best seller, the Butter Milk Fried Chicken, is a deviation from their usual meats way back when they were stationed in Subic. The chicken is paired with muffins that we didn't particularly enjoy enough as they were kinda bland but there's honey to drizzle that to a better taste. There's some good dishes here that one should try when they visit, the appetizer of onion rings was a pretty good dish I must say, when my friends and I ate here, we were looking to stuff ourselves quite well, and stuff we did. We ordered so much our stomach's couldn't handle it anymore. But the more important question we had was whether we were stuffed because we were so into the food or if we were just plain hungry? read more

I like how the aesthetic of the restaurant is kept simple making you focus more on their food. They're making quite a buzz for their Buttermilk Fried Chicken and rightfully so because it's really, really good! But they have other notable dishes as well! Take for example their Pork & Potato Strips, crunchy pork belly that's deep fried and topped with a mountain of fresh potato chips, herbs and aioli. Super good! I also really enjoyed their Truffle Gorgonzola, it's a must try! If you do plan on eating here though, make sure you're prepared to line up as they're always full.
