I am a new mom with a 11 week old baby and worry a lot. I received no assurance or guidance. He was just in and out as if in a hurry. He has a fantastic sense of humor, never rushes his patients, listens carefully, and does not have a big ego like some other physicians I've worked with. He really allows his patients to be partners, and shows respect for research they've done, also understanding they may know their own bodies well. Our impression is that he errs on the side of caution, and will order tests to rule out conditions, even if he thinks issues are unlikely. I received a positive test for a sexually transmitted infection in my online chart along with…read moreminimal notes, so I called the office and asked to briefly speak with Dr. Johnson as I had a few questions about my results... I expected the doctor to call me back at the end of the day or perhaps the next day, as doctors usually do with an abnormal test. Instead, the receptionist snapped "WHAT questions??" and then stated that I would need to make another appointment and pay again in order to get to speak with the doctor at all. I was stunned to have someone in healthcare snap at me unprovoked. The verbal cruelty was disturbing and left me feeling vulnerable on top of worrying about my health and prognosis. When I finally heard from the doctor (via email) she was presumptuous, wrote condescending notes about how non-dirty and non-loose I am, and told me that patients only "hear" what they want to hear, which is why she doesn't talk to patients over the phone. (!) At this point I hadn't even yet told her what my actual concerns were. I had questions based on my medical history of autoimmune disease, as well as questions about how this might affect my partner and what precautions I should take. I also didn't fully understand how the infection gets transmitted as I tested negative in the past with the same partner. I was bizarrely mistreated and condescended to. I've never had this level of disrespect happen at a doctor's office before. The doctor finally did call and immediately started talking about social stigma (again, not a concern to me at all... Should it have been??), made more assumptions, didn't listen, interrupted, and answered questions I didn't ask. The doctor billed the 15 min conversation as a virtual office visit. She waived the copay since I sounded upset, which was nice... The conversation should have lasted about 3 minutes if she simply answered my questions. Of all specialists, why would a gynecologist coddle their patients and treat them as though they are immature and irrational?

Dr. Rappaport and her assistant, Beth, have refined the drudgery of taking a kid to the pediatrician's office by cultivating a relaxed, welcoming, and warm office setting. That approach is central to their patient care. Whether it's for a yearly check-up or a sick visit--the high standards are the same. I believe Beth typically says, "when can you come in?" It's unusual in any business, let alone medicine, to find someone who looks to accommodate my schedule. Once we are there, both Beth and Dr. Rappaport take the time to listen to our concerns. They are in no hurry; I never feel rushed or flustered that I haven't had all of my questions answered. The care is exceptional. Dr. Rappaport has a common-sense approach and impeccable medical knowledge. She's never alarming, always measured, and extremely compassionate. It's clear she is not just a doctor, but also a mother, who relates easily to her patients and their parents. In addition, she has built a marvelous rapport with my boys. She has cared for them since they were toddlers--they are now very active 8 year old twins. She's as thorough with their physical exam as she is with their mental well being; dealing with topics such as bullying. She gives them (and us) clear-cut, age appropriate advise on how to deal with it. I don't typically write reviews, but I was compelled to do so in this case. This is a different style of medicine than I have ever experienced. Recently at my annual appointment I was waiting to use the restroom which faces the support staff cubicles. The wait was rather long as there is only one restroom. I had the "privilege" of overhearing how they feel about their clients. "Oh, I hate the perimenopause ones- IM FAT AND HAVE SYMPTOMS BUT I DONT WANT TO GO ON MEDICATION AND GAIN MORE WEIGHT". "THE NEWBIE GYNES ARE SO CUTE WITH THEIR STIs." I was stunned. I went to the restroom, came out, and Dr. Plawyer's nurse was waiting for me. I told her of the incident and she said "I'm sorry to hear that" and then went over my med list and medical history while I'm on the verge of tears. I finally stood up and said "I'm leaving." I did receive a voicemail apologizing and saying it was addressed. However, as a nurse for the past 10 years I understand on a deeper level that the comfort they felt talking about patients at work indicates a culture of not respecting their patients. When we go to the doc we want to feel heard, be taken seriously, and be met with empathy and assistance. I no longer believe this happens at this clinic. Find a clinic that doesn't mock their patients.

If you call the corporate office number, if you can even find it, they can't help you because they are a different office. Midwest Center means nothing other than a common name, like going to a Shell gas station, one has nothing to do with another. Took me multiple requests, over a period of more than 3 years to get my medical records transferred to my new doctor, which were finally transferred as of this year, 2025. Good Lord.
