I take my family tent camping at least once a year at Kerr Lake. It is usually nice and quiet. We have met lots of nice people here over the years. We love having camp fires and enjoying the outdoors.

A great option for glamping (glamorous camping) just outside of the Triangle. At about $20 a night for a tent plot of land you get: - Easy access. About an hour from Durham on major highways. - A level gravel/dirt section of land directly on Kerr Lake with enough space for 2 cars and 2 tents - A picnic table and a stone campfire ring - Running clean water at the plot entrance (not functional in the winter) - Clean bathrooms and semi-clean showers (serviced at least twice a day) - Pet friendly - Boat ramp and dock - Online booking - Beauty What you don't get: - Great hiking trails. Although, there is a ton of area in the park to walk around. - Freedom to drink booze. We do, but we don't act like fools. It is against the rules so YMMV. Definitely a fun place for a kicked back weekend with friends.

Beautiful lake! Camped here over the Labor Day weekend even though it was cut short due to storm Hermine. It was quite as many people cancelled sincd the weather was unpredictable. Bathroom and showers were clean. The rangers clean and stock the toilet papers every day. We stayed at the Hibernia Area 3 site 142 so it was a bit of a walk to the restrooms for us. Many of us drove. The site didn't have the large fire pit that we usually see. Many campers gathered woods from the areas as their fire woods. Not sure if that was allowed. This campground doesn't sell woods or have a store on site so come prepared. Would come again.

Beautiful fall day at the lake!

I love this place. Great place to take the family camping in your RV or a tent. It has bathrooms as well. Great memories.

If I had started doing yelp reviews 25 years ago you would have heard me rave about this park to everyone on line but as the years have passed I'm noticing some changes that no longer have me feeling the same as I did. The past several years I've noticed there have been camp hosts here which I'm not especially fond of as a taxpayer. I understand the rangers may not feel they should be spending their time cleaning restrooms or checking firepits for ashes but I've witnessed them sitting in the rather expensive vehicles our tax payer dollars furnish them with doing essentially nothing now that these hosts are here. Occasionally they patrol the area but I remember in years past when they were more engaging with the public precisely because they tended to these hosting responsibilities. It may be just me but I'd rather see the state employ a local who lives in the area to come in twice daily to check on & clean the restrooms than to hire an out of state couple who is going to park their unit in one of the rental spaces & set up camp here each season. Many of the state parks have already erected cabins & Yurts that I know don't have a 100% occupancy rate. Can they really afford to offer a retired couple an otherwise rentable space for the entire season? Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe these out of state hosts are actually paying a reduced rate to enjoy our parks amenities rather than receiving a wage & in return they agree to act as dorm parents where cleaning restrooms is just part of the deal, idk but I'd much rather see the Division of Virginia State Parks director establish a young rangers in training program to do these menial tasks if the adult rangers feel their time is too valuable to be camp hosts. I want to see our beautiful state parks succeed & remain in operation for generations to come but having 24/7 out of state camp monitors takes away from fully enjoying the state park experience in my opinion. Having said all that the park itself has remain pretty much the same as it was 25 years ago with the exception of a new playground so it's as close to nature as you'll find if you enjoy a peaceful camping experience.

This was the perfect spot. I'm sure we probably weren't supposed to let him in the pond but it was his last day with us so we let him splash around the edge. The trails were still viable even given all the leaves had fallen. It was a really peaceful walk and we made great memories. There weren't people there at the time we went which I was thankful given our circumstances. Unfortunately it hadn't rained enough lately to produce the waterfall in the waterfall trail but we did get to see a little one on a different trail. If you walk the waterfall trail and get to the top, there's an intersection where you'll see lots of people carved their names in a tree. Stop by and look up, if you see JAX, that's in honor of my boy. Enjoy your fur babies, your children, and your own life, stop and smell the flowers. Take a walk on a sunny day and feel the sunshine in your face. We're only here for a short while.

Gives them an opportunity to earn some money during the season. We got the aquabana as they call it, for half a day (4 hours) and it was worth it ! We didn't swim but the kids did and they had a blast! You're able to bring a cooler with food and drinks ( juice, tea, soda, water. No alcohol) they have a food truck on site, as well as a "dirty soda" stand. Flavored sodas with cream (very popular in Utah but slowly making their way to the east coast) as well as a first aid bungalow. Everyone gets a life vest but kids under 18 MUST wear theirs at all times! I like that rule! Keeps the kids safe. Of course the teens working there are certified lifeguards just in case! They also offer scuba classes/lessons at the quarry. Would I come back? YES! Maybe one day I would try the courses and swim or paddle board but the go around it was nice relaxing and letting the kids live carefree in the lake!
