"If you're going to stand there and talk, can you move away from the counter so customers can get through?" These were the words of the old, bald, mustachioed man behind the Kepler's Seafood counter in the West Shore Farmer's Market. It took me off guard, and my first inclination was to apologize, which I did, as I obviously felt like a heel for blocking customers' access to his business' counter. But then something dawned on me: there were no customers! What's more, the counter space is a good 30 feet long. The amount of space I was blocking was 2 feet at best. But let me take a step back... My girlfriend, daughter and I approached the Kepler's Seafood counter to purchase some calamari and shrimp. I noticed, however, that the calamari bin was empty, so I asked one of the employees if they had any more? "No." Huh. It was one thing for them to be out of the product, but here's a business savvy thought, Kepler's: apologize for being sold out and, I don't know, maybe suggest something else?! She did neither of the two. Nonetheless, we continued to look for another product to purchase when I felt a tap on my shoulder. My pal and his girlfriend stood before us and we chatted for a few minutes. And then, in the middle of our conversation, we heard the following: "If you're going to stand there and talk, can you move away from the counter so customers can get through?" As I mentioned above, THERE WERE NO OTHER CUSTOMERS AT THE COUNTER! No other customers BUT US, that is. Again, we had already inquired about the calamari (which, again, they were out of) and clearly intended to buy something else, meaning, at that time, we were not only customers of Kepler's but ACTIVE customers. My friends took their leave and we placed an order with one of the younger female employees: scallops (which were tasteless, by the way) and shrimp. I paid for my order, at which time my girlfriend said to the employee, "You should tell that guy that the way he spoke to us was incredibly rude." Now, most businesses would apologize and make an excuse to appease us, and then talk shit about us after we'd left, which is fine. I'm okay with that. This female employee (with the brown hair pulled back into a ponytail, if you're looking for her) proceeded to argue with my girlfriend. "He's the owner," she said, "and we pay a lot for this space." Keep in mind, we were standing in a public market in front of a business to whom we'd just given money!!! "As the owner he should no better to talk to people that way," replied my girlfriend. "You didn't even have any customers." The female employee made another combative comment to which my girlfriend responded, "Well, you won't have us as customers any longer," to which we took our leave. As we walked away, the employee said something the lines of, "That's fine! We have plenty of other customers." With an attitude and this sort of piss-poor customer service, not for long, as I'm all too happy to tell the world about their downright awful attitude, lack of professionalism (in front of my daughter, no less) and flavorless scallops. I'd been a customer of Kepler's for years; that's over now. Enjoy your extra counter space. read more

We're new to the area and have been looking for a good seafood vendor. We came from the Reading area where we had Adelphia Seafood which is a prime retailer and wholesaler so we know a good seafood retailer when we see one, in this case, Kepler's wasn't it. I asked the gal at the counter where a particular batch of salmon had come from as the source was not indicated nor whether it was farm raised or wild caught (or sustainably fished). The gal said she didn't know so she went to ask her father (the owner I presume). She said that her dad didn't know either and that he said "somewhere from the west coast". REALLY?! If your sole business is selling fish, you really should know more about what you're selling. People are coming to you because they don't want to buy some generic, plastic-wrapped piece of fish from a supermarket. Folks are more concerned these days about where their food comes from and if you can't tell them, they'll walk with their money to someone that can. In the end did I buy the salmon, yeah I did but partly because I felt sorry for the girl and partly because the salmon looked ok. It tasted ok but wasn't the greatest. Will I return to try them again? No. If they don't care enough to know what they're selling, I'm going to find someone that does. read more

I've been shopping here on Friday afternoons or Saturday mornings for about 5 years. Their food is just great! As a devoted pescatarian, I am always in need of the basics (catfish, salmon, hake), and the more exotic for when company comes (fancy shellfish). Their service is always excellent, too. I read a few of the negative reviews - those folks must have hit the counter at a bad time. That being said, I've been asked to move my socializing from most of the counters at the WSFM! read more

Very fresh seafood!! Staff is always very fast and nice. Try their premade crab cakes, stuff scallops etc, they are sooo good!

I have been purchasing from Kepler's for over 20 years. When we had our restaurant this is where we got our fresh fish from and to this day we continue to purchase from them. It's the freshest Seafood around and the employees are extremely knowledgeable. read more

We went there to order our items for Thanksgiving, like we have in previous years. Last year when we picked up our order they had and additional order for oysters that they said we must have called in. We always order in person and I told the women at the counter that. When we went to order this year, the women started as long as we pick up the full order, what a joke. if they had a system of a carbon copy of your order to give you when you come to pick it up it's in black and white. They would rather make everything the customers fault and insult them. When I tried to talk to the owner . he wouldn't even talk to me and look me in the eyes, that explains everything . This is hands down my go-to for any seafood-related needs. Kepler's is, in my opinion, in a class of its own when it comes to their craft. The variety of selection is expansive whether it's ready-made items like crab cakes, marinated mussels etc. or fresh fish. I can tell their personnel are experienced and knowledgeable across the board, not to mention friendly and helpful. I could not recommend it more, and will absolutely continue returning and passing the word along. read more

I found Kepler's Seafood during a web search for somewhere local to buy clams. I messaged them via their page on Facebook. They responded quickly and answered all of my questions. They even followed up to confirm they had gotten them in. They were some of the best littleneck clams I've eaten in years. Looking forward to going back for more! read more
