I had no idea that Kenwood Theatre was an independently owned theater in the same group as the Esquire and Mariemont Theaters until we came here recently to see Wake Up Dead Man. And yet here it is, a dine-in movie theater next to Cincinnati's busiest shopping district that isn't owned by AMC, Cinemark or the like. Just a unique theater experience where you wouldn't expect to find one. As you walk in, there's a small concession stand where you can buy popcorn and some other smaller snacks. But the real move is to order food from your seat. Once you get to the theater, you can recline and heat your seat (really!) and press a button to summon a server to take your order. I'll admit I wasn't thrilled about the menu at first glance, but after looking at other options around Kenwood mall the prices began to look a lot more reasonable. We decided to order dinner at the theater along with a huge bowl of (refillable) popcorn. We weren't able to get into the theater until about 15 minutes before showtime. I'm not sure if that's standard or something specific to the movie and theater we were there for. It was no big deal, but didn't leave a lot of time to order and get our food before the movie started. We there with a group of six and ordered 2nd out of three sets of couples. But for some reason were last to get our food, well into the beginning of the movie. Popcorn came out first during the trailers, along with a Coke Zero that my husband and I shared. When dinner eventually showed up everything was hot and delicious, but I didn't pay a lot of attention to it because the movie was already well underway. It's also a bit hard to see your food once the movie starts so keep that in mind--don't get anything too sloppy or messy. The chicken quesadilla is maybe at the limit of sloppy. Manageable but be careful. Overall, this theater has a lot of pros: Locally owned, good food, small theaters, interesting movie selection, convenience of eating while watching a movie. However, it looses a few points for me for the 15-minute restriction on entering the theater and the delay in getting food once ordered. I get the convenience factor but I personally would rather eat in the brighter light during the trailers + before the movie I'm here to see starts. read more

The environment is perfect whether you're on a solo date, out with family, or enjoying a night out. Clean, relaxing, and worth it for a more elevated movie experience. There's so many specials and reasonable pricing compared to other theaters. Popcorn and drinks are refillable, happy hour available. $9 pricing before 5. The popcorn was better. A different friend did unlimited refills! They came to give the checks at an odd time during some climatic scenes which I didn't love. The entrance was a little hard to find. When you walk in you are at the concession area. The guy manning the concession area led me to believe that he was in the wrong job. He should be behind the scenes and not in contact with the public. He was very unfriendly and acted like we were interrupting his phone time! I tried joking a little, trying to break the icy stare we were getting and it didn't work. Besides the cold reception we received, the popcorn was extremely stale. It was chewy not crisp. I went on a day it wasn't packed, and the service was really good. We ordered food and drinks and the staff was really nice. The seats are comfortable. I wish I had asked if my seat heats up! It's one of the few theaters in the city that I will still go to. Many of the theaters have gone downhill but they take great care of the furniture at Kenwood. Overall, this theatre is a solid choice. We were loyal Northgate Xscape moviegoers, but when they unceremoniously closed, we were on the search for a new movie home. The facilities are nice, though I feel that understaffing issues create some icky bathrooms on busy days/nights. When we have been here in the afternoons or on off peak nights, the "at your seat service" has been solid. A 9.00 bottomless popcorn and 4.75 free refill drink is quite the deal. However, we haven't quite figured out the flow on busier evenings. We came to see a new movie on a Sunday evening and while our theatre was small, I suspect that the employees were responsible for covering all of the theatres. I ordered the aforementioned drink and popcorn while my date ordered a Caesar salad. The salad arrived, and was tasty. My date had nearly finished his meal before the first round of popcorn and drink arrived. I pressed the button and requested a refill of the drink a little while later. This second drink did not arrive until both the salad and popcorn were gone, so I asked, at that time, for a refill of the drink and popcorn to try and mitigate the long wait time. Our bill came and I asked again for the drink and popcorn refills. Both times, with two different servers, we were told yep, I'll get that. The refills never arrived. It was very odd, uneven service. The facility is nice, the movie was uninterrupted, the chairs were comfortable (they fully recline and have a seat heater feature-so careful which buttons you push in the darkness, but the service was just off. The movie theatre parking is odd. It is above a Whole Foods and during peak hours it can be difficult to find a spot. You then have to take the escalators/elevator upstairs to get inside the theatre. Overall, we do like this theatre. It is a shade closer than Newport, but if it is a busy night, we may opt for the Levy for that tried and true order at the counter service. read more

The concept here has changed. You walk in and you can buy candy and popcorn, but no drinks. Then you can walk over to a bar and get alcoholic drinks and then you go and buy your tickets in another area. It was recommended we buy food and drinks at our seats since there are servers. Nice concept but they need to work on their efficiency. We had three different people wait/check on us during an hour and half movie. Sounds good, however one took our order and brought us our popcorn and drinks. Popcorn is $9 and comes in a big bowl. It is also free refills. Drinks are $4.25 and also free refills. At your seat you hit a button for service. I pushed this for popcorn and soda refill. Instead I got my check. I pushed it again and the refills came out with 15 minutes left of the movie. Not a horrible experience and I don't come to movies for table service but they could work on a few things. Also if you don't mind there will be servers walking around during the movie and in and out of the theater while you watch. Theater was very clean and the staff was friendly. read more

Solid theater! It's part of Kenwood Mall so if you wanted to get other things done before or after a movie you can. Love that they have a full bar and you can order drinks and food there or at your seat. The drinks are well priced and tasty! Pretty extensive selection of beers on tap as well as liquors. The food is alright, not the best ever but not bad. It's more for the convenience of getting food at your seat that I would do it again. You can also eat at a nearby restaurant before. Seats are pretty comfy although I'm tall and wish the recliners were a bit longer at the legs. Overall good experience! read more

I loved the old kenwood theater but this new one... from the location to get into it, the layout (let's get welcomed to buy snacks before tickets), bartenders on a Saturday who didn't know how to make drinks, live music in the 'Welcome area' (?), trashed bathrooms and poor seat service ( asked every order for a water ... took the 3rd button request to get one)... This was our first time at Kenwood Theatre and we enjoyed our experience! The theater is very conveniently located in Kenwood! The staff was friendly, the theater was clean, the restrooms were clean and the seating was excellent! We attended an advanced screening of Disney Pixar movie Onward and loved the movie! It was both action packed and funny while delivering an important life message! Thanks to Cincinnati Family for the tickets to attend the event! The medium popcorn and two medium drinks deal for $12.00 is definitely a great value! You also get free refills on the soft drinks! The medium size popcorn was also a great value as it was huge and very filling for two adults to eat! Adrianna and Vera were excited about the adult size Icees! We showed for the boss baby 2 movie which is a 'g' rating. As the movie theatre is filling with children ages 3-4+ the previews come on. As if it was foretelling with the previews (violence, language, sexual themes) the movie starts playing. The first scene a man get shots in the head and blood splatters all over the screen. It appears they sent us into a theatre where they were showing the hitmans wife's bodyguard l. An 'R' rated film. We were all ushered to another theatre and apologized to. Also told we would be offered free passes at the end of the show. Not a big deal for my 9 year old I guess... but for the other parents a feel quite upset for them. Do better! read more

Like many other Yelpers, I visited the Kenwood Theater because of a pre screening event. We were in one of the large theaters. The theater was clean. The seats are comfortable. Ample leg room. Others are able to pass easily. We sat twords the back of the theater. Exits on both sides made leaving quick and easy. Concession stands are in the lobby, and upstairs. The one upstairs was not open during our visit. There were ads before the movie for "Thirsty Thursday," beer discounts, and "Wine Wednesday," with half price wine and cheese plates available. The usual movie concessions are also available. Additional parking is available behind the theater. read more

The Kenwood Theatre is not the nicest theatre I've been to, no the most up-to-date with big comfy chairs. But you know...there's something about a good old-fashioned theatre that just has a little more charm to it. There are different bar specials for different nights of the week. I definitely can't wait to come back for half-priced wine night. A few of these and suddenly all movies become REALLY GOOD. Simple and does the job. I always enjoy supporting local businesses. Though they may not have the fancy seats like other movie theaters or the ability to book assigned seats ahead of time it's a convenient local theater that offers a nice variety of movies. I definitely recommend coming here to watch a movie. I've never had any issues and they offer everything you need to have a great movie watching experience with family, friends or your date. Excellent movie and big thanks to Cincinnati @yelp for the tickets for the prerelease I Still Believe. They even gave out free tissues and Not going to lie, I needed them. The employees were all friendly and helpful. Movie popcorn on point and nice to get a wine at the movies. In general a great experience but for the location expected it to be a little more modern and updated. Seats kind of close and difficult for people to get by (for some reason everyone was running out to the bathroom or for food in our aisle and we were on the end). So great to get the free tickets and a great night out during the week. read more

I had no idea how great this place was! I have always avoided this theater, as it looked so small compared to other big new theaters in the area. However, they offer some unique movies that other theaters do not show on their screens. It is slightly older, so you have the traditional theater seats (no recliners)--but there are some perks. First of all, this place is not as expensive. You can go watch a matinee for $7.50! I saw the new movie Jumanji at half the price (at least!) of what I would pay at Rave or Regal. Another perk? You can get some special treats including BonBonnerie sweets. They are sold right there at the concessions. You can even get alcohol to enjoy during the show. They have specials including half price wine on Wednesdays, as well as three dollar beers on Thursday. Go check this place out!! Great new theatre! Located across from the Kenwood Mall. I like the fact that there is an Orange Leaf and Dewey's Pizza next door! Makes it very convenient if we want dinner or a snack. I like that they serve wine! Popcorn always fresh! Staff is very efficient and friendly. If there is a long line, it usually goes quick. The seating is roomy, sound system, screens are in good quality. Restrooms clean. If parking lot is full in the front, there is also parking in the back and the garage (in the back). FYI, they also have a bargain Tuesday's $6.00 all day. If you sign up for their newsletter, you get free popcorn. Great addition to the Kenwood area. read more

I had never been here before and we had free passes for a movie last night. I was really surprised how big this place is, I was expecting it to be like the Esquire or Mariemont theaters. They serve alcohol and have some decent deals (half priced wine on Wednesday and $3 beers on Thursday). I remember when this place first opened that they had sushi and other fancier food items, they appear to be back to standard movie fare. The concession lines moved slowly but the employees were friendly. They were very strict about cell phones since this was a preview movie. We were not allowed to access them even before the movie started and they watched us throughout the movie with an infrared camera, a little creepy. All in all, good spot and we'll be back. read more

The bathrooms were clean. We were in one of the larger theaters and the seats were cloth and very comfortable. I enjoy the Kenwood Theatre because of its smaller size compared to large brand cinemas. I love supporting local film theatres as I enjoy their sister locations Esquire and Mariemont, but two items with this theatre. Parking always a challenge, people driving around the lot, at times fighting over available spots. I normally park in the garage underneath, but can be a challenge even getting to the garage with all of the traffic around. During my visit last Sunday to see Tranwreck my friend wanted a beer to enjoy before the film, which was in refrigerated case behind the counter, we were at the upstairs concession stand, because the downstairs was packed, but the two associates were minors and told us we had to go back downtstairs to purchase any alcohol. The movie was great, but the experience this time at Kenwood theatre was okay, I'll go back to Esquire next time. read more

One of my favorite theaters! Smaller but locally owned. Tuesday's are $6 all shows. They have more than your average concession stand in a movie theater. My husband likes the grapes and cheese platter. They serve decent wines and local craft beers. They also have Graeters ice cream and different snacks like cupcakes and funnel cake fries. Kenwood Theater also has super early matinee prices - first shows of the day are just $6.50. This theatre for the most part is really nice. The staff is friendly and it was as crowded as other movie theaters on Tuesday discount day. They're discount movies are $6 and I'm pretty sure they have a student discount. My roommate and I saw "Tag" and we were in a super tiny theatre with only 5 rows. I definitely liked that because it made it seem more intimate. The bathrooms were pretty gross and smelled a little that's what's keeping me from giving them a 5 stars. read more

Like its sister theaters Esquire and Mariemont, Kenwood is a smaller local theater. Expect smaller screens, normal unassigned seats, nothing super fancy. I like supporting smaller theaters so I really don't mind. Add on that it's a moviepass theater makes it so I'll probably come here to catch the bigger blockbusters and to Esquire or Mariemont if I'm trying to watch an indie movie. Parking can be crowded in the front lot at busy times but there's usually plenty in the garage behind. read more
