The movie theater itself was large but with a very small screen compared to how big the theater is. The sound was very quiet for a movie theater, had a tough time hearing the movie or previews. The popcorn was okay, didn't taste fresh and hot. The seats recline but are a little older and not as comfortable as some other theaters. People talked through the whole movie too.

I got in here post work last week to catch Toy Story 4. I had some credits in the Atom app, and this was the most convenient theatre in my options. I had no complaints. I came in 20 minutes prior, and the screen was open. Seats were clean. The recliners were comfortable. I didn't try any food or drink options available outside, but they did smell good. Picture quality and sounds were classic 2D experience.

We bought the tickets online through the app, got there and a whole group of people were sitting in our seats. They showed us their receipt, it stated the same seats we had but different theater. I didn't really think anything of it until later when we finished the movie and walked out. They had theater 9, SAW X was showing there but at 9:25 or so instead of our time slot. It was also just standard tickets, not RPX. I would just walk in without any ticket next time if it's that easy. FREE MOVIE NIGHT FROM NOW ON HECK YEAH! Thank you regal!

Cinema was lovely, but $10.00 for a small bag of popcorn and $8.00 for a slushy I thought that was way too much!

And yet here it is, a dine-in movie theater next to Cincinnati's busiest shopping district that isn't owned by AMC, Cinemark or the like. Just a unique theater experience where you wouldn't expect to find one. As you walk in, there's a small concession stand where you can buy popcorn and some other smaller snacks. But the real move is to order food from your seat. Once you get to the theater, you can recline and heat your seat (really!) and press a button to summon a server to take your order. I'll admit I wasn't thrilled about the menu at first glance, but after looking at other options around Kenwood mall the prices began to look a lot more reasonable. We decided to order dinner at the theater along with a huge bowl of (refillable) popcorn. We weren't able to get into the theater until about 15 minutes before showtime. I'm not sure if that's standard or something specific to the movie and theater we were there for. It was no big deal, but didn't leave a lot of time to order and get our food before the movie started. We there with a group of six and ordered 2nd out of three sets of couples. But for some reason were last to get our food, well into the beginning of the movie. Popcorn came out first during the trailers, along with a Coke Zero that my husband and I shared. When dinner eventually showed up everything was hot and delicious, but I didn't pay a lot of attention to it because the movie was already well underway. It's also a bit hard to see your food once the movie starts so keep that in mind--don't get anything too sloppy or messy. The chicken quesadilla is maybe at the limit of sloppy. Manageable but be careful. Overall, this theater has a lot of pros: Locally owned, good food, small theaters, interesting movie selection, convenience of eating while watching a movie. However, it looses a few points for me for the 15-minute restriction on entering the theater and the delay in getting food once ordered. I get the convenience factor but I personally would rather eat in the brighter light during the trailers + before the movie I'm here to see starts.

New and Indie Movie House that brings you back to a time when the movies was an experience!…read more It's small (TWSS). Let's get that out of the way. However, it's unassuming at first look. I actually don't know how many theaters are within Esquire, but there are several. If you're going for your reclining seats, your drink holders, you craft cocktails and beer..... go somewhere else, Yuppie. If you're going for the experience of seeing a movie and soaking it all in, go to the Esquire Theatre. They play Independent, New Run, Foreign and Retro movies primarily. I've even gone and seen Animation Festival Collections. Their selection changes weekly, so visit their website for the latest and greatest. You can purchase tix online, but they also have the old school box office window, with a live person, at the front. Literally a box office! Once you enter, you're greeted by the smell of fresh delicious popcorn. Freshly made and, if you so desire, with REAL butter. Yes.... REAL butter! Not some butter flavored "liquid". They have a modest candy offering along with drinks. But you know what they don't have? Pricing that makes you reconsider choices in your life or having to check in with your financial advisor before you buy a small popcorn and drink. I don't know the prices off the top of my head, but I can say that when I buy a small popcorn and a drink, I don't have the urge to angrily ask the person behind the counter if they "are feel good about what they're doing". Reclining seats? Nope. Drink holder? I don't know, maybe. Stadium style seating? No...you're not at a stadium. Plush comfy cusiony seating? Not a chance. Old school flip-down movie house seats? You got that right! And they are fantastic. Look... I'm not boarding a nine hour international flight. I'm going to see a movie. I'm fine with a regular movie seat. The theaters aren't big either. This isn't a complaint. If I really want to see some highly intense visual masterpiece of a movie, then sure, I might got to one of the "big theater" theaters with their IMAX Dolby-riffic Deluxe 8D Aural Experience to sodomize your senses. But, those usually aren't my jam, and that's just me. I like a good movie. The Clifton area is what it is. It's artsy, quirky, independent and fun. It's a great atmosphere and, in my opinion, The Esquire is the heart of Clifton. The way that way-back-when marquee juts out from the building with it's big bright bulbs ablaze that's telling of what's playing NOW. It's a work of art in itself and always a great experience. Would I go back? Hell yes. It's my first choice for movies that I cannot always find elsewhere. Much of the Esquire's selection doesn't always play at "big box" theaters. Sure, they play some of the first run new movies, but they offer so much more than that. Make a night of it, in Clifton. There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance to choose from. Have dinner, maybe check out a few of the independent shops up and down the street and then head to your movie. It will be a great night. Pro-tip: Watch the parking. You can park on the street, but be mindful of the signs. You can use whatever parking app it is (I can't remember) and max out the time. I do believe you can extend it right from the app, should your movie run longer than your parking time limit. There are also various parking lots.

The first movie started around 9, as the sun went down. By the time for the second movie it was almost midnight so we left, but if you can stay up late it's a great deal to stay and watch two! If you choose to turn your car off, make sure to bring an actual radio to tune in with. None of the apps have the specific station and you won't be able to hear much from your neighbor's car. It was a beautiful place to watch the sunset and once it's dark you can see lots of stars. I would recommend sitting in a car or on chairs because it is all gravel and it's harder to find a window to watch if you're on the ground. There are concessions and restrooms in the middle. You pay per person in the car for entry and if you bring your own snacks you're supposed to pay.

There is a fee of $5 to bring in outside food but no one ever checked if we paid for it so I'm not sure why they have that fee? We liked the Kona truck to get shaved ice and thought it was a nice little treat! Get there at least an hour and a half early to get a good spot. I really like this movie theater!…read more First, the concessions area is great. The popcorn actually tastes like it has real butter instead of that super artificial oil flavor. They also have a small bar, so you can grab a glass of wine with your movie, plus the usual candy and snacks. And if you're a popcorn person, you can get a seriously huge bag. I saw someone walking out with a massive family sized bag and honestly respected it. The theater itself is very cozy and has that vintage charm you don't get at newer places. Even though it's small, it didn't feel stuffy or cold inside. I was totally comfortable in shorts. The seating is classic old-fashioned theater seating, no recliners or fancy upgrades, which honestly kind of adds to the nostalgic feel. That said, if you're looking for a super high-tech movie experience with perfect projection and luxury seats, you might want a bigger theater. The projector was a tiny bit oversized for the screen so a sliver of the image was cut off, which wasn't terrible but did catch my eye. Still, it didn't ruin the movie. One thing I loved is that they show older films, reruns, and niche movies along with new releases. It's a fun place to see something a little less mainstream while still having a cute date night in the heart of Mariemont Village. Overall, it's a charming, cozy theater that feels special in a way big chains don't. Perfect for a casual date night or a relaxed movie evening after getting dinner in the village.

The not so great was the lobby concession area was a hot mess. Burnt popcorn being sold-like you not only could smell it, but see it on the kettle corn in the case. The floor was a mess, straw wrappers and popcorn and some guy added to it by dropping his alcohol drink and it spilled all over the floor and splashing up on me as I'm waiting for some pretzels to get made. (A worker wiped it up with his foot and a couple Sham-Wow cloths.) So the kid waiting on me took forever putting on his plastic gloves, shuffled over to make the pretzels, then stops, walks away-had no idea where. I figured I'd grab some water at the drink station. There's usually clear cups for water, but last night no cups. So I thought they either ran out or just use the soda cups. I grabbed a the middle cup. I was thirsty, small wasn't going to cut it. Hubby goes to pay while I go back to wait for the pretzels. Two boxes get put up for a lady, but no, those are chicken wings orders. The kid suddenly remembers the pretzels he took out of the freezer. Seconds later he hands me a box. The box was cold but it didn't register with me because at that moment my hubby says they charged him $7.00 for my cup of water. He said "fountain water is free I thought?" The kid said "yeah, but only in the clear cups, (which there weren't any) so I have to charge you for the cup." We go to our seats, my seat won't recline back. The feet part came out but the back was straight up and down. My hubbies leaned back, my friend to my right's did too. But not mine. I take a deep breath, it's ok. I'll enjoy my pretzels. Open the box, pick one up, it's frozen. Like rock solid frozen. I can't make this stuff up. So I walk back down to the concessions and a nice manager lady noticed me approaching. I said these are frozen. She grabbed the box and picked one up, she was like omg! These weren't even cooked! She went around to the prep area and showed a couple kids-one was the one that messed up the order. He didn't say a word to her. He just stood there. The other girl jumped into action with her manager because they were behind on pretzel orders. I got my pretzels fast. Rushed back to my non reclining seat and enjoyed them. But this is why I go to Kenwood.
