Dear staff at Kent Smiles Dentistry, I had my wisdom teeth removed yesterday and had such a pleasant experience with the entire staff. The oral surgeon assistant was so kind, warm, welcoming and funny. She walked me through everything she was doing and I felt really comfortable with her! The procedure was wild, I knocked out, woke up, and I was messed up. This is my sincerest apology to the staff in the lobby when I got wheeled out and yelled "I'm f*cked up, I've been over-served." At some point I started playing we are the world by Michael Jackson and I can't know if that happened before or after I flopped into the car. Anyway--SORRY. I went to this place for some teeth problems. Check-in was quick and X-rays were taken. Doctor Kim sounded knowledgeable person. He identified 3 teeth and sent me to front desk to get the estimate for the treatment. Here is the problem. I was trying to identify the teeth she had planned for root canal and caps and a little confused asked her to tell me left side and right side teeth which needed work. She totally blew up on my face. Yelling at the top of her voice she stomped to Dr. Kim and he came over tried to pacify her. It was a shocker, why would someone behave like that unless they are mental. I have been to many dental practices as I have the unfortunate situation of needing a lot of dental work. Dr. Park is by far the best dentist I have had - ever! The staff is personable and professional, and they are always working to be more efficient. In the last year, they did some software updates, which I can tell is already helping the overall efficiency. The equipment and tools are modern and more advanced than other practices in the Des Moines area. The staff always remembers me and my family, they are sweet and friendly, and we all feel very comfortable there. Dr. Park is very gentle and honest about any oral issues that we are experiencing. I found this place on my dental insurance website (CIGNA) and from the moment I walked in I was greeted by two of the most genuine, kind and professional receptionists on this side on the universe! No seriously; They were fabulous! You'll interact with them throughout your appointment -they greet you, chat it up with you and make you feel like you're the only person in the building, despite showing up over 30 minutes early to your appointment... Sorry again, ladies! This was my second visit. My first visit was straight to the point, nothing hidden. "He's what we do. Here's what it costs. It's absolutely up to you." Everything runs so smoothly. My transitions from one room to another were seamless. As if all of this awesome service doesn't already make this the best stinkin' dental office EVER, they have employed THE most AH-MAZING dental hygienist on the planet; Avikashni! (Someone please throw money at her) "Avi" (what she goes by) sat me down, made sure I was absolutely comfortable and proceeded to explain everything she was doing -while constantly checking my comfort level. In my 30 years of going to Dentists like a gypsy nomad in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Redding, Portland, and Seattle, I am confident in saying Avi has blown all them out of the water with her professionalism, personality, charisma and service! I didn't even think it was possible for a person to look forward to their next dental appointment, but for realz, can I just come hang out?! Lol. My first visit was just over a year ago for an urgent cracked tooth repair. The care I received was outstanding and why I went back yesterday for a full exam and cleaning. And again the care was unparalleled from the front desk to the DA and the Dr. During the course of the exam we discovered I need a crown replacement. I was walked through the process and the details of the financial aspects. I will be going back in a few days for this treatment. This was a ripoff. They advertised $59 cleaning and exam including. X rays. I hit the link and signed on. There was no cleaning, which I let go by the boards, just an exam, and xrays, but the dentist never reviewed his treatment plan with me as he had promised. Then after the appointment I got a bill for over $600, and my insurance paid about $150 for it. So they soaked up that $150 from my allowable insurance coverage for the year plus billed me a huge amount instead of the advertised $59. This is unethical, dishonest business practices and I will fight them, they can't bully and cheat people like that ! read more

Came to take my BF for a tooth cleaning. Took them 2 hours. 1st hour, they argued with him about forcing him for a deep clean - I know all about this gimmick and he just wanted a regular cleaning. So that's one hour of our life stolen. Then the cleaning itself was half-assed and he demanded they do it again. Half-assed again. He finally left after 2 hours because his work was calling him. Teeth barely cleaned. So, they stole 2 hours of our time, did a crappy job, and tried to up sell on services not needed or asked for. We will not return. read more

We are new in town without a dentist; last night I broke my crown. With little pain I sleep though the night, but wanted it cared for asap. I called our out of state dentist to see if they could help. They came through like gold, they are part of the Smile dentistry and with my zip code found me the perfect office. Ann, office manager and my new BF had me fill out the paperwork on line and she worked me in 10am today. After a quick checkin Dr Park greets me in the lobby and takes me back to introduce me to his staff for xray and exam. Very obvious I was a important patient and the must want me back. As expected, we replace crown, Ann is back to explore treatment cost, we make a plan and I walk out with a new better than ever tooth, same day, very fast. Having a broken tooth and no dentist is a disaster. Finding a dentist close to home, that gets you in immediately and takes your insurance.... Priceless. Pretty hard upsell on deep cleaning. Every other patient I overheard while waiting for 2+ hours got the same pitch for deep cleaning. Apparently everyone who goes to Kent Smiles has periodontal disease, or perhaps they are just trying to finance their fancy equipment. - Cleaning was subpar and they kept me waiting forever, possibly because they were milking more money out of the patients that agreed to all of their nonsense. - Upsell procedure on deep cleaning was a bit insulting. I am paying for a service, I know what I want. Summary: I went here based on the good reviews and was really disappointed. I'm not an overly anxious person with the dentist, but I definitely became one as more and more issues popped up regarding a lack of instruction or follow up. The service issues and disorganization made me significantly more nervous for the procedure. Actual extraction seems fine...no complications-only reason I did 2 stars instead of 1. Would only recommend if you are in the know about dental procedures and can advocate for yourself and actively follow up in regards to your care. Since most of us don't have that level of background knowledge, I rate my experience 2 stars. I had a list of care set up to the tune of 2k from that initial exam. I was excited to start knocking them out one at a time to take control of my dental health, and I will do that - it just won't be at this office. Dentist: Dr. Singh Initial Exam: Good. Payment options offered. Care plan created. Scheduled wisdom tooth extraction. Pre-Care: Several issues with follow up. Prescription not called in until 2 days before the extraction despite calling and asking for it well over a week before the procedure. No sedation options offered until it was too late to do anything other than Valium. Lead to issues on the day of. Multiple instances of either office staff or Dr. Singh implying that if I'm upset or nervous about something, I should have followed up. I have had to advocate and follow up here more than I have with any other medical office. Called four times in the week leading up to the appointment asking for help and clarification. I'm not sure how I could have followed up or communicated more than I did. Unfortunately, I don't have a background in dentistry, so there are still some things I simply didn't know to ask that caused issues. When I had my other two wisdom teeth taken out almost a decade ago (at a different practice), they cleanly and easily explained my options and gave me all of the info for pre and post care upfront instead of the day of. It's confusing that I was expected to know what options to ask about here. Actual Procedure: It was done well to my knowledge. Very little bruising or swelling in my cheeks. 2 weeks out it seems I am well on the mend. Post Care: Grocery list and post care prep info was helpful, but I had to ask twice for it to be sent to me beforehand. I'm glad I did, because I definitely wasn't feeling like a grocery trip immediately afterwards. No instruction on when I could brush or use mouthwash again, and a few other areas that weren't covered or were barely covered. Luckily, my sister manages a dental office in Oregon, and she had the dentist she works with walk me through tips on what to do and what to expect that weren't covered. Payment Options: Great variety of options to pay. Awesome for those of us who don't have dental insurance. I opted for putting half down and then breaking it up over 3 months as we had discussed in my initial exam. Somehow it got set up so that I have to pay it off in one month instead of three. Working on getting this corrected, but it's been nearly 2 weeks of follow up regarding this and there have been several delays in voiding the old contract. They might not be able to help that as it is through SmartPay, but no one has reached out to me to proactively tell me about any delays at any point during this process. Basically, the deadline for when they say it will be done will pass, I hear nothing so I email, and then get an update that it still hasn't been resolved. Conclusion: Was told by the Office Manager that they have a more streamlined process for laying out care options and instructions when you are working with an oral surgeon. Sounded like they have a whole separate visit to discuss options with those folks. Hopefully, they will work on extending that transparency and effective communication to those of us that are working with dentists instead of oral surgeons, because that definitely would have made a difference in my experience. read more

I was not happy with my experience. I felt like it was a bait & switch. I'm a student with no insurance or money. I was told in June from a different dentist office I needed a root canal. I could not afford it. I was directed to Kent Smiles Dentistry through the internet. I called and was told they accepted careington dental discounts program. It would be approximately $448 for the root canal plus your sign up fees for careington, approx. $120. They wanted me to come in for another exam, I said I just had one less than 6 months ago. I was told to email my X-rays and chart. After doing so I was told they would need additional X-rays and I would have to come in. When I arrived they used my old X-rays and told me my root canal was a special condition and could not be done for the phone quote. I was quoted $1,618.35. Bait & Switch. Wasted my time and gas money. I'm very disappointed with Kent Smiles Dentistry. Buyer Beware. read more

I can't praise this office enough! I have had horrible previous dental experiences, so I was extremely nervous going in this morning for an extraction on a bad tooth that's been bugging me for years. Dr Singh and Ken (? I'm guessing because I'm horrible at remembering names :/ sorry!) Made me feel the most comfortable and kept asking if I felt ANYTHING, this was a big deal to me, as I have had previously dentists just start drilling away. I found this office through my insurance website and I feel like I won the jackpot! When I walked in, the first thing I noticed was how incredibly clean it was. I mean you could literally eat off the floors! I was greeted by Josie at the front desk. She was sweet and helpful and got me checked in immediately. I had filled out my paperwork online the day before so she already have everything pulled up and ready when I got there. I sat in the waiting room for about 2 minutes before Dr. Park came in and lead me back to his office. What a genuinely nice and down to earth guy he is and I immediately felt comfortable. He actually took the time to tell me about his professional background (which was incredibly impressive by the way) as well as a bit about himself as a person. He recently bought the practice. He told me a bit about his associates and it was clear that not only was this a top of the line practice, with top of the line dentist, oral surgeons and staff, but excellent customer service was always first and foremost on everyone's mind. I have never had a dentist take the time to make me feel so welcome and appreciated. By the time I left his office, I was confident that I had made the right choice when I picked this practice! Dr. Park walked me over to the X-ray room. The tech was so nice and she consistently checked with me to make sure I was comfortable. She told me what she was going to do before she did instead of just going through the motions. All the equipment was new and cutting edge. So cutting edge, that I had never even seen it before including a camera that took detailed pictures of my teeth. Again, everything was impeccably clean. After the X-ray's, I went back to the exam room. I waited maybe 30 seconds before Dr. Park came in. He explained in clear, easy to understand terms everything that was going on. He not only told me, he showed me on the x-rays exactly what he was talking about. He took the time to give me all my options not just the ones that would make him the most money. Together we came up with a treatment plan. I work full time so I was concerned about the time I would have to take off. I soon learned this wasn't going to be an issue at all. They have evening and weekend hours. After I finished speaking with Dr. Park, Josie came back. She already had a printout of what my insurance would pay and what I would owe. She went over that with me and I scheduled my next appointment. I left the Kent Smiles Dental office 100% satisfied. So this place completely confused me... first visit I was absolutely blown away by how courteous everyone is and how personable and caring the dentist was and that includes the hygienist as well. I ended up being told I need a deep cleaning which I pretty much already knew and they were able to do it on the spot all in one visit for a decent price which was amazing. When Dr. Park examined me he said you have periodontal disease but at this point you don't need to see a specialist because I think we can keep it under control if you have cleanings done every 3 to 4 months, which was a big sigh of relief for me since that didn't mean any sort of outrageous expenses. When I left the office I called several people just to let them know how impressed I was. From there on it went somewhat down hill... The next day I get a call from Ann asking me when I could come in and see the specialist and I explained to her that Dr. Park said I wouldn't need to see a specialist so she said she would have to look into it and call me back... she called me back and said yes I did need to see a specialist based on what the hygienist said. Ok so I made an appointment with the specialist who told me I needed bone grafts done in all four quadrants and then and tells me that my insurance would cover a small portion roughly 1000 and that my out-of-pocket cost would be about 6000k. It was mentioned that my limit is only 1000 but if I had a higher limit there would be better coverage so I looked at MetLife and was told that they are a preferred provider so I switched insurance companies and doubled my max. When I called Ann back to let her know she said insurance does not cover this procedure and I told her the print out you gave me with the estimate shows what my cost would be after insurance?? She said she would look into it and call me back and I think I waited to weeks without any calls so then I called her and asked her if she had heard anything because I wanted to get this procedure scheduled and she said no but that she would look at the specialist schedule and get back to me... I waited another couple weeks and called her back and at that point I didn't even care about the insurance I just wanted to get it done and we set a date. When I called a few weeks later to confirm the day she told me sorry he's actually not going to be working that day let me call you back.. well she never called me back and at that point I said forget it I've tried everything and it almost seems like they don't want my business. I was back once to have a cleaning with an awesome hygienist but I left it at that. Very disappointing considering how I was more impressed in the beginning with them than I have with any other dentist ever and I really wanted them to be the ones to get my dental health back on track.. read more
