The Rawls Course

I don't know if I could actually say enough about the Jerry Rawls course. Although the Super is a…read morelittle bit of a stubb , the play and staff outside the Course Management goes is A-Ok. This isn't a place for those looking to get on for $25 , it's more like $40 with a cart and you'll actually feel as if you're taking the weekend on due to it's spacious fore & back - ground. This is one of the highest ranked NCAA recognized courses in the country and you'll often find the Texas Tech Men and Womens golf teams practicing here , of course on their own private section of the massive driving range. I believe the actually hold LDA (Long Drivers Association) qualifiers here , so it's easily 450yds long , and there isn't a shortage of actual turf coverage. The chipping facility actually hold deep bunkers for those wishing to improve their short game or a very large putting green for warming up on your way to the Local Celebrity Tornaments , i also know that you'll be able to sign up and do a USGA Local Qualifier before Sectionals here , for most venues. You'll have to check both the Rawls website as well as the USGA for listings. This course is easily 7200+ yds and i'll play it from the back atleast half the time (4 rounds) and love the challenge. Greens a spacious and the fairways are what you would call a sculpted masterpiece. You'll be able to bash your drive down the fairway 280yds plus roll , but if you're a long iron player , you'll find comfort in getting an even lie from farther back. Wind will always play a factor , even 5mph gust will be felt on this open terrain. If I won a small fortune through the Texas Lottery , i would pay my dues for membership and all course tournaments for the next 5 years because of the memories this could could create. Don't play here unless you've got atleast a 150hrs range time or atleast 3-4 years of playing experience simply because this course is easily intimidating for those unseasoned as to what a Championship Caliber Course should feel and look like.

Have only played this course one time, but it's a great layout. Very fun and many challenging…read moreholes. Only problem I had was with hole #4, as the design of the green only lens to maybe 2 or 3 playable hole locations. Other than that, it's excellent.
