Tight visitor parking but free!…read more I had no idea there were visiting hours! (Note: I would understand a nighttime cut off.) FYI: 10am-1pm, 4-7pm. Luckily when I entered to visit someone, it was 3:40. I did have to wait about 15 minutes in line to register with the lobby staff as a visitor. Standing in the line, we were next to the exit door that kept swinging open and getting hit with bursts of cold, January air! I have to say, this was a terrible system. Also, apparently kids under 13 can't visit. My 13 year old was with me and I would have been really upset if I found out after standing in line. This was not posted anywhere but apiece of paper handed to me at the check in station. There is a waiting area. Someone alerts you once it hits 4pm and you can then go and visit. I have to say, I disliked the process. It was clearly posted on the patients door that I needed PPE equipment to visit. The nurses station quickly set us up for success. KUDOS to Miriam. About a year ago at a nearby hospital this was the case with my father but nothing was posted and I found out AFTER I had already been visiting with him! The Nurse we had was well liked by our patient but I found her to be a know it all. Telling my daughter what her pathway to college should be. (Not nursing either.) She also didn't get the message we were visiting and just stood around and took up a lot of our patients time. Keep in mind, we offered to leave to let her do her duties but she rejected. It was mostly standing around and being a part of our time. Overall, our older family members really prefer Miriam. I did think the room was very clean and the floor we were on was quiet.

Rarely saw any cna after they checked in at start of each shift. Had to call repeatedly (3x) for Iv pump beeping multiple times (30-45minutes later after 3 calls they responded). Roommate in pain 4.5 hrs later and after her/my telling 4 staff members she finally got pain med. Asked to give stool and urine specimens but had to repeatedly ask for a hat/collection container. Hospital Dr tried his best but was limited by GI's direction. I was Insufficiently prepped for sigmoidoscopy. No one advocated for reprep and repeat (except me and it was declined). Enemas ordered at 8a received at 1130a, test was 130p-test later postponed to 430p (no reprep which I asked about). No definitive diagnosis. Wanted to sign out ama but insurance said I'd be stuck with the bill. Had to repeatedly request discharge for 2 days in a row (since nothing was being done). The plan of care/Treatment which was never truly discussed with me was just upping meds I was already on and adding on lactose (I thought the hospital dose given was 1x only was surprised to find it in my discharge meds with take daily for a month-Dr never mentioned that was the plan. This med and upping antidepressant med only made/is making my symptoms worse. Feeling worse now than I did when I came into the hospital. Repeatedly requested steroid-drs refused. I felt that I was absolutely not listened to and was not at all included in my plan of care. Once home I Followed up outpatient for steroids, the GI MD agreed to prescribe them, I'm picking script up today. The only reason I did not give not one star is solely due to the following staff members: Wyatt RN(holding unit) sweet and truly caring. Eusebio RN (seriously a gem and born caregiver and staff educator THE BESTnurse I've ever had) the only nurse to anticipate, follow though on my requests, respond quickly to calls (for any nausea meds), listen attentively and even referred reikki practitioner to me for pain management/nausea management. He deserves accolades and a raise. He was also educating a student nurse from RIC and his educational skills were exceptional. Kate (endoscopy) truly professional and attentive, a great patient educator. Michelle (phlebotomist) amazing comforting bedside manner and skilled at what she does. Ray (transport) also great attitude and very sweet and calming. Gabby (Reikki/RN) the best Reikki session I have ever had, truly skilled at Reikki. Fabulous calming and caring personality a true gem. Really loved the Eastern Medicine practices you are incorporating into patient care: pet therapy, Reikki, etc. The customer care cart-offered books, etc The CNA daily lets go for a walk-I didn't need it since I was independent in care but it's a great service. But adl/personal care and individual basic needs services are seriously lacking. Despite the above staff members, I would not return here. Only came because this is where my GI MD is associated with.

I spent 11 days at RIH this month across two admissions…read more The Urgent Care center thought I had a collapsed lung and sent me via ambulance to the ER. I was examined quickly and it was discovered that I actually had a couple of blood clots in my lungs and infarction. I was admitted and put on Heparin. I got to be in the women's medical unit and got my own room. The nurses were all so kind and attentive, answered my questions and helped me stay relaxed and the CNAs were supportive. The clots caused me to get Pnuemonia - and I added a couple days to my stay. It should have been a scary time (PEs can kill people) but I felt the entire time like I was where I needed to be and it was all under control. I did try to be a star patient but still, the care was excellent. I also felt like nutrition was great - Manny was trying hard to find me something I'd eat when I had absolutely no appetite. Even housekeeping was friendly whenever they came in my room. I ended up getting readmitted when I spiked a fever five days after my first discharge and ended up with sepsis. When I got to the ER I explained my doctor sent me back due to high WBC and tachycardia and they took me right in, put me under sepsis protocol and made me a priority, I felt worse than I did with the PEs and Pneumonia but with fluids and more meds I began to feel so much better so quickly. And again - felt so well cared for by the nurses and doctors. This time I was on co-op 4 for a few days. I know everyone's experience is different. And the patients the nurses and doctors see have varying needs - I tried to not be too needy - I was comfortable enough and getting my meds and tried to focus on doing what I could to improve my recovery time. But seriously - two things that could have killed me and I felt less stressed than I have all year.

I really didn't want to go and sit in the ER so a nurse friend of mine told me what to do to keep my hand safe until I could go to urgent care in the morning. I made an appointment at CareWell on their website and immediately got a text confirmation. When I arrived the next morning, they were totally ready for me. They greeted me, gave me an iPad to fill out my info, and took my into the room immediately. I was seen in only a couple of minutes after getting into the room, and the NP was super nice, caring, and helpful. She helped me treat my hand, and went to great lengths to find alternative medications for me since I was allergic to their burn ointment of choice. It was a fast and easy appointment and I was in and out in about 20 minutes. They're opening one in Seekonk, closer to where I live, and I will definitely visit for any urgent care needs in the future. I am so impressed.

I was short of breath from the coughing and had constant nasal drip. The PA said it was an acute upper respiratory infection. I asked for something stronger than over the counter cough medication and she prescribed the pearl drops which I told her do not seem to work for me. She said then I could just continue with the over the counter cough medications that I am taking. I did go ahead and take the prescription for the pearl drops. i asked if there was something else that she could give me and she said it would have to run its course. My husband was there with me because he has been sick with the same symptom. When she saw him she gave him an antibiotic and the pearl drops for his cough. I am not at all happy that I was not given an antibiotic as well. Hopefully he will be well soon but I am afraid I will be fighting g this for a while longer! I will not go back to this place! Complete with phones ringing and nurses talking loudly and with very bright lights shining down into my eyes. There were only 2 people in the ER. It was a Sunday evening and there was only 1 doctor in the entire ER. Finally after an hour I got an examination room and an hour later the doctor came in. Mumbled a few things , did a quick exam and left. I got nothing for pain. The room was cold and no blanket was offered. He looked like he didn't want to be there. The call light worked but nobody came and I needed a urinal bad. The TV remote was not working and I was told that other remotes didn't work either in some of the other rooms. 2 hours later still nothing. I finally left my bed and went to the nurses station and I told her to call me an ambulance as I wanted to leave. She said that I couldn't leave and to go back in my room and that's when I asked her if there was only 1 doctor available for the entire ER. She didn't even answer me verbally but nodded her head indicating that there was only 1 doctor available. Once I got back in the cold room without a blanket a new patient was brought in on a stretcher. She was having some kind of mental crisis and was screaming at the top of her lungs. Wouldn't you know that they rolled her stretcher right at the entrance to my room and left her there. It went on for about 2 more hours. My labs had come back and I was out of range for my blood level ( I'm on a blood thinner) so the nurse gave me a vitamin K pill to swallow and a ginger ale and she was pleasant and asked if I wanted a blanket and I asked her for a urinal. The patient that was brought in screaming had still not received the attention of a doctor. My nurse asked if I wanted the glass door closed due to the loud patient in front of my room. This was at around 10:00 pm. With the door closed the noise from the loud patient was muffled enough for me to get some sleep. At 4:00 am the ambulance arrived to take me back home. I never saw the doctor again and the ambulance EMT's removed my IV and off I went. It was so desolate in the ER that night. No friendly nurses to wave to and thank. It was eerily quiet as I was being wheeled out. I didn't like my experience at all

Absolutely Frustrating…read more I am beyond disappointed with my experience with Ortho RI. First, we waited six months for an MRI--and yes, I understand insurance played a major role in that delay. But once we finally got everything moving and were ready to get the care that was needed, I expected the doctor's office to actually handle the medical coordination that comes with being a doctor's office. Instead, I received a message telling me to contact our PCP and get the referral myself. At what point did patients become responsible for doing the administrative work that medical offices are supposed to coordinate? We already waited six months. We finally got things in order, and rather than helping move the process forward, the responsibility was simply pushed back onto us. The medical field has gotten completely out of control. Patients are already navigating insurance companies, referrals, appointments, paperwork, delays, and months of waiting while trying to get answers and treatment. The LAST thing we should have to do is chase down every piece of the process ourselves because an office doesn't want to handle it. I don't expect special treatment. I expect competence, communication, and basic patient care. Six months of waiting only to be told, essentially, "You go figure out the referral" is beyond frustrating. Patients deserve better than being treated like an inconvenience when we're simply trying to get the care we were referred for in the first place.
