There are just some things in life you don't want to go to a western medicine doctor for.
These do not include a gaping head wound, a severed limb, a gunshot wound, or a raging case of the clap. For these, I go see an MD. Everything else, I either self-medicate or find a cleaner way of dealing with it. I don't have an STD, I was just using it as an example, I swear.
A few months ago my girlfriend was suffering from a sore back and general malaise and a friend of mine recommended that perhaps acupuncture and traditional holistic healing might be of help. We went to see Ken Lockwood at Ancient Form Acupuncture who interviewed her for almost an hour asking all sorts of questions and inspecting her tongue, feeling her pulses (you have more than one, did you know that?), and assessing the situation. Right off the bat, he had nailed down many of the aspects of her lifestyle that he said were effecting how she felt. Long story short, no more back problems, good energy, and her head doesn't do that creepy 360 spin thing anymore.
And now my turn...
After suffering a couple of days of excruciating neck and back pain, I gave Ken a call and made an appointment for last night. I went through the same interview and question process, got my tongue inspected (a little personal, if you ask me), and found out I have what is called a chong tongue. I haven't googled it yet, I will let you know.
We started with a nice relaxing massage and moved on to cupping. Thankfully, Ken's hands were warm and very soft. I kid. I just can't say cupping without thinking of, well, you know. Anyway, cupping is not for the faint of heart. It is freaking intense. Yes, I like a little pain and I loved it.
Ken very gently removed the cups and started on the acupuncture, explaining exactly what he was doing every step of the way. Describing in a very calm and relaxing voice the meridians, the energy channels, the different chi's of the body and how they effect one another, Ken deftly turned me into a life size voodoo doll. Take that evil twin!!
The most amazing thing about going here for acupuncture, or massage, or the afore mentioned cupping is Ken's energy. He emotes calmness, assurance, and professionalism. At no time did I feel rushed or like a patient. The fact that he takes the time to explain not only what is going on in your body but also what exactly he is doing and how that works with your energy and flesh is absolutely amazing and refreshing.
A truly amazing experience with a warm, loving, caring person who truly believes in the beauty of his craft. In western medicine as well as many of the other masseuses/acupuncturists I have gone to I have always felt like a patient, with Ken and Ancient Form Acupuncture, I felt like a participant. read more
