Dr. Liu is gentle and explains where he's placing the needles as he goes. Part of acupuncture treatment includes the doctor leaving the office after the needles are placed for about fifteen minutes. I think that information is helpful-especially if it's your first treatment. I've actually fallen sleep during this short period of time! His office accepts insurance coverage so worth checking out if your plan covers it. Holding back a star because it's tough to schedule appointments during the week. Availability trends between 10 -4 and each treatment is about an 45 mins to an hour start to finish. There are Saturday appointments available,however, and that's what I've been taking advantage of. I had only gotten acupuncture once before coming here, but I've been here a handful of times now and I always leave feeling relaxed and refreshed. I'll describe the experience thoroughly for anyone who might be interested in trying it out but not sure what to expect! It's easiest to make an appointment over the phone, but I suppose you could walk in too! You can chose what you pay from $20-40. When you walk in, you check in and pay at the front desk and either wait in the waiting area or usually head straight back to the treatment area. There are two rooms with lots of reclining chairs, kind of set up like a dialysis clinic. You can pick a chair, make yourself comfortable, and take off your shoes and socks. There is plenty of signage all over the place so it's really easy to figure out what to do. The acupuncturist will come over when they have a free moment. They'll ask you a few questions about what is bothering you (if anything) and then place about 12-15 very thin needles at various locations on your body. You may need to roll up your sleeves and pant legs so I would wear loose clothing--you want to be comfortable anyway! After the needles are placed it's up to you how long you want to hang out. Most people stay around 45 minutes to 1 hour. A lot of people will fall asleep or shut their eyes. There's really no rules (as long as you put your phone away)! When you're all done, you can get the acupuncturist's attention and they'll take the needles out for you. Overall, the atmosphere at PCA is the perfect balance of relaxing and casual yet 100% professional. I highly recommend PCA to anyone who is interested in trying out acupuncture at an unbeatable price!

I drive over an hour each way to see her and it's been so worth it. I originally went to see Marisa for extreme anxiety and ongoing sleep issues, after trying what felt like every modality out there: somatic exercises, journaling, therapy, BIT, meditation, breath-work...you name it. While many of those helped in their own ways, nothing truly moved the needle for me the way hypnoacupuncture with Marisa has. From my very first session, there was an obvious shift. Even the people around me noticed. After that first session, the tension in my shoulders decreased, and the only way I can describe it is that everything (physically & mentally) felt like it had been taken down a notch. Since working with her, my sleep has completely transformed. I went from having an extremely hard time falling asleep and waking up almost every hour, to now pretty much sleeping through the night. Not only are the aesthetics of Santosha immediately calming, but I have always felt welcomed and accepted by the teachers and staff. The front desk employees have consistently been pleasant and helpful--and often drop into the class themselves after everyone is checked in. All of the instructors I've met thus far have been highly knowledgeable, warm and compassionate. Overall, they have balanced explaining poses, breath work and technical aspects of practice with essential core concepts for understanding and deepening one's yoga practice. All of the classes I've attended have been inviting, honest and uphold the true meaning of yoga--unity. I've especially enjoyed the "Energy Healing Clinics" offered monthly (I think it's monthly anyway)--$5 donation for quick Reiki sessions and other energy healing practices. Santosha offers a discount for students as well as military personnel which I think is great--a way to increase accessibility to yoga. The only downside to this studio is that there are relatively few classes offered each week. Nonetheless, Santosha is a wonderful oasis and a hidden gem of Cranston for sure.
