Mixed with herbal supplements and plenty of rest, Acupuncture got rid of my horrible pneumonia and all the gloriousness that goes along with it. I called Dr. Mark at the hight of my illness. I sounded so horrible on the phone, the man took pity on me and scheduled a time to see me that day, which was his day off! We spent a few hours together, discussing my symptoms, what I had done prior to seeing him, and my life in general. He was calm and kind and reassuring. I was totally comfortable. He then did some cupping, which I had never done before but was quite intrigued by. It wasn't nearly as painful as I had predicted, and I loved the way the heated cups felt like they were pulling every toxin from my ailing body. Then we got to the acupuncture. Now, I will tell you in all honesty it isn't painless - there are a few areas (on my body, at least) that are very sensitive and you can feel the energy coursing through your body when he inserts those pins, man. Thankfully, he's very chatty and explains everything which is such a comfort to inquiring minds like my own. Within a few hours, I felt better. Within a few days, I felt much better. I went back a week later, we did more treatments and continued with the herbs and rest and now I am like a new woman. Acupuncture also helps with stress, insomnia and digestion. And cramps. For me this was the first time to have treatments on the back side of my body. It was a whole body experience. Very calming + relaxing. Stephanie is not only the nicest person ever she truly pays attention to your needs. Dr. Liu is gentle and explains where he's placing the needles as he goes. Part of acupuncture treatment includes the doctor leaving the office after the needles are placed for about fifteen minutes. I think that information is helpful-especially if it's your first treatment. I've actually fallen sleep during this short period of time! His office accepts insurance coverage so worth checking out if your plan covers it. Holding back a star because it's tough to schedule appointments during the week. I had only gotten acupuncture once before coming here, but I've been here a handful of times now and I always leave feeling relaxed and refreshed. I'll describe the experience thoroughly for anyone who might be interested in trying it out but not sure what to expect! It's easiest to make an appointment over the phone, but I suppose you could walk in too! You can chose what you pay from $20-40. When you walk in, you check in and pay at the front desk and either wait in the waiting area or usually head straight back to the treatment area. There are two rooms with lots of reclining chairs, kind of set up like a dialysis clinic. You can pick a chair, make yourself comfortable, and take off your shoes and socks. There is plenty of signage all over the place so it's really easy to figure out what to do. The acupuncturist will come over when they have a free moment. They'll ask you a few questions about what is bothering you (if anything) and then place about 12-15 very thin needles at various locations on your body. You may need to roll up your sleeves and pant legs so I would wear loose clothing--you want to be comfortable anyway! After the needles are placed it's up to you how long you want to hang out. Most people stay around 45 minutes to 1 hour. A lot of people will fall asleep or shut their eyes. There's really no rules (as long as you put your phone away)! When you're all done, you can get the acupuncturist's attention and they'll take the needles out for you. Overall, the atmosphere at PCA is the perfect balance of relaxing and casual yet 100% professional. I highly recommend PCA to anyone who is interested in trying out acupuncture at an unbeatable price!
