While I appreciate the facilities and the overall mission of the Y, I am increasingly frustrated with the inconsistent and arbitrary enforcement of rules in the Wellness Center, which has significantly impacted my experience. The posted Wellness Center Rules clearly state under "Personal Belongings: Please store bags and items in lockers." Recently, however, this guideline has been strictly enforced as a outright ban on gym bags on the floor, with staff citing "safety reasons" (potential tripping hazards). Yet many other rules on the same sign--such as re-racking weights and avoiding dropping them, limiting cardio machine use to 30 minutes during busy times, using headphones for music/videos, and wiping down equipment--are routinely ignored. Unracked weights, dropped barbells, and cluttered equipment create far greater safety risks than a responsibly placed gym bag, but these violations go unaddressed, even during peak hours. Even more concerning is the allowance of independent, non-YMCA-affiliated CrossFit sessions on the wellness floor. This is not a dedicated CrossFit facility, and these high-intensity group workouts frequently involve heavy lifts and dynamic movements that result in dropped weights (directly violating the posted "avoid dropping" rule) and take up large areas of shared space, increasing risks for other members. CrossFit carries well-documented higher injury potential compared to standard individual workouts, yet it appears to be permitted without oversight. This double standard suggests favoritism or other priorities over consistent safety and fairness for all members. Regular gym-goers like myself rely on a gym bag for practical reasons: it keeps essentials organized (clean clothes, towels, water bottles, recovery tools), maintains hygiene by separating sweaty gear, and supports efficient routines for busy schedules. Some members even carry emergency medical items--inhalers, EpiPens, or glucose monitors--for conditions like asthma or diabetes, needing quick access during workouts. Unfortunately, these selective policies and lack of uniform enforcement reflect poorly on management. It feels as though member convenience, fairness, and actual safety take a backseat to arbitrary decisions. This is the primary reason I give the West Chester YMCA low referral ratings and hesitate to recommend it to others. I hope leadership will review these practices to ensure rules are applied consistently and the facility remains a truly positive, safe, and welcoming space for everyone--as the posted sign promises.

They welcomed the effort but didn't push too hard for exercising. There weren't any obstacle course elements in the class. We were allowed to stay after and ask some ninja warrior potential experts on a few techniques of the obstacles. It was nice to celebrate little victories- kind of like the non-single Matt Nathanson song of the same phrase . This place has obstacle course equipment with more of an adult look but kids are also welcome and encouraged as they probably bring most of the funding to the gym too. Outside had some equipment as well as part of the 30 min circuit training. Some people might not like the younger kids or the dogs that were around. The kids around were in line and well behaved and one of the dogs seemed jealous of not enough attention and started to get in my way of my running path. It was a bit comical for me. Oh a temporary break lol. Some of the staff keep the place well cleaned and maintained. This was probably a 4 star experience for me but the community element here helps me bump it to a 5

My son decided he wanted to do a backflip on the trampolines and asked one of the trainers, Alex, if he would help him. What a wonderful private club. From the moment you arrive on property you know you're in for a…read moretreat. The slow winding road that leads to the clubhouse shows you a fair amount of the course to whet your golfing appetite and upon arrival the staff is super friendly, always willing to help and provide and assistance necessary. The course itself stretches out to around 6800 yards and plays with aedans meandering mix of doglegs, uphill and downhill tee shots, no tee shot is dull. The tees themselves are perfectly level and well maintained. Once in the fairway they are well manicured and rarely will you see an area of imperfection. Greens are large and undulating, don't go long and always play more break than you see. Rough is penal but fair and even throughout the course, you won't get that "surprise" crazy tough lie in the rough. Bunkers were perfect, very playable and appeared to be uniform throughout the course. Only issue I had was hole 14, it's a wildly winding par 5 (play it as a 3 shot) that if you don't know where you're going you will be stuck a few times but the green is not nearly as undulating so once there bird is in play. Overall it's a great course, I would love to play it again!

The gym is clean with every machine you can think of. I love the fact they have a nurse evaluate you and do a full body scan, with this you can see your progress every 3 months. I took a year off from working out and thought I would give trying a trainer a shot. Boy was I glad I did! I met with Kurt who was very professional he took his time with me, he took time to get to know me and personalize a routine for me. Kurt showed me equipment in the gym I never knew existed, so many new ideas and routines it was great. Kurt made going back to the gym exciting for me again. I left the gym every time excited to go back even though I was sore it's a good kinda sore. Kurt motivates you and cheers you along on some really tough moves but keeps ya going. Kurt is a huge asset to mainline if you get him as your trainer you would be very fortunate and ripped if you can afford to keep up the sessions The only downside to this gym is the training sessions are pretty $$$ for me. The class schedule is great and they offer a good variety at a variety of times, which is great as someone who works full time. You also get a 3 hour parents night out once per month that I feel is worth half the cost of membership alone and my husband and I get to go out for date night. I've been to other Y's in the area but none of them compare to this Y. The staff and instructors know my name when I walk in the door and it truly feels like family there. I've also made many friends over the last 5 years there and I'm so glad I joined!

**Extremely Disappointed -- This Is Not Acceptable Customer Service**…read more My swim lessons were transferred from the Jennersville YMCA to the Coatesville YMCA specifically to accommodate my work schedule. Coatesville advertised a Sunday swim lesson at **12:30 p.m.**, so I arranged my day around the service I was scheduled and paying to receive. I am new to this area. I drove approximately **45 minutes**, coming from between Philadelphia and Kennett Square to Coatesville, navigating unfamiliar, winding roads and paying nearly **$5 a gallon for gas**. I arrived, checked in, changed into my swimsuit, got into the pool, and waited. By approximately **12:38 p.m.**, it became clear there was a problem. The young lifeguards working at the pool had **no idea there was even supposed to be a swim lesson.** Think about that. I drove 45 minutes for a scheduled lesson, changed, got into the pool, and the employees responsible for the pool did not even know the lesson existed. No one from the Coatesville YMCA contacted me beforehand to say the lesson was canceled, changed, or that there was an issue. Then came the customer-service failure. There was one person working the front desk, **Jaya**, and she was unable to resolve anything. At that point, I requested that my membership be canceled and that I receive the appropriate refund because I should not continue paying for services that the YMCA failed to provide. I was told I would have to **send an email**. No. I was standing inside the YMCA after THEY failed to provide the service I drove 45 minutes to receive. I asked Jaya to cancel the membership then or contact someone who had the authority to do so. She told me she did not have any phone numbers for anyone who could help. How does the person operating the front desk of an organization have **no way to contact a manager or someone with the authority to resolve a customer issue?** Instead, I received several apologies and a business card for **Aydin Ludwiczak, Aquatics Coordinator**, and was essentially sent on my way. "Sorry" does not return the time I lost. "Sorry" does not put the gas back into my car. "Sorry" does not explain why nobody notified me. And "sorry" is not an acceptable substitute for actually resolving a problem your organization created. What makes this experience even more troubling to me is that Coatesville serves a predominantly Black community. Communities of color deserve **competent, organized, responsive customer service just like anyone else**. The level of service I experienced today was disrespectful and unacceptable, and I sincerely hope this is not representative of the standard this YMCA believes this community should accept. I will be documenting this experience, contacting YMCA leadership, and leaving appropriate reviews because this deserves attention beyond the front desk. I did not ask for anything extraordinary. I expected the **scheduled service I paid for**, or at the absolute minimum, advance notice that it would not be provided. And once the YMCA failed to deliver that service, I expected someone to take ownership of the problem and resolve it. Instead, I got confusion, no lesson, no meaningful assistance, no immediate resolution, and a business card. **That is unacceptable.**
