I'm so dissapointed in my recent experience going to this salon. I have been coming here for years,…read moreand just recently the girl that used to cut my hair left. The front concierge left as well, and now there are new staff members. For one, the main person that is and should be the first impression to the salon - the front concierge manager, Dawn - is completely imposing, rude and unprofessional. Then the rest of the staff seems pleasant, but definetly made to feel rushed and non cared for. Here are a few reasons to back of my statement: To put things under perspective, for this visit I had just requested a simple haircut & blowdry. Nothing else. 1. To start, I had multiple text notifications from the salon sending me reminders that I had an appointment. I showed up on time, and I was told otherwise - that I was not showing up on the system nor did I have an appointment. I was ready to leave since Dawn did not provide a resolution or an apology for the salon's confusion until a stylist passed by and took me in. 2. When I was brought in, I was just asked "what do you want?", no proper consultation and all was completely rushed. Then, I was told my hair was clean so I didnt "need" a proper wash (per the package description). So no wash, cut dry and then blow dry quickly without any product to protect my hair from heat damage nor was given the option to request this is usually my preference. 3. At the end, I was told the total for this 15-20 minute service was $80+, I had stated my experience and there was not a care in the world from Dawn, her response was " the standard fee for blowout and haircut is $80". I felt this was pretty high and not appropriate for the bad customer experience I had, but I still paid and left the salon. I went back and looked at the list prices displayed on Substance's salon's website. Here's what it states: - Under Women's Menu: "Classic Cut + Blowdry - Shampoo & conditioner, Haircut & Blowdry : $55-65" - Under "Salon Menu" ' "women's haircuts Level 1 = $69, Level 2 = $74, Level 3= $80, Level 4=$84. I was NOT provided a reason to the fact I was being charge for level 3, the answer provided was "this is a standard fee". Which clearly, what is written on the website does NOT support this statement. 4. Oh! To top it off, as I was paying without asking for what had happened - Dawn (instead of apologizing for the confusion and the MESS of a customer service experience) began speaking and said she didn't know what had happened and imposed that maybe I had done something wrong! IT'S ALL IN WRITING AND THE APPOINMENT WAS SET THROUGH THE TEXT REMINDERS THAT THE SALON PROVIDES. The whole experience was COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE AND I WILL NOT BE RETURNING nor recommending this place to anyone in the Rutherford area!! It's quite sad, because this used to be my home salon and I loved all the staff and how cared for I felt everytime. I would always be listened to completely, cared for and consulted, never rushed and kicked out the door like today! Now I have no choice but to find another salon that cares for their clientelle, respects, consults and treats each individual as top priority.

I was a January 2025 bride with the absolute best experience using Salon Brugatto for hair and…read moremakeup. My now sister-in-law used them for her wedding and recommended them to me. I trust her opinion a lot- for good reason!! First and foremost their work is beautiful. They are highly skilled artists and worked literal magic with my hair and face. I did a trial before the big day with Krysten for hair and Cat for make up. I liked them so much I started going there for regular haircuts, too. So I'm on the shy side- but their caring, kind, yet honest approach ensured that I got exactly the kind of look I wanted! Instead of asking broad yes or no questions like "do you like this" or "what do you want," they had more targeted, specific questions (i.e. "for this portion of the eye do you want to go darker or lighter? Add a shimmer/less shimmer?"). This might seem like a small thing but it was actually EVERYTHING. Because this gave me the safe space to make decisions based on the vision in my head, all while using their professional expertise to get there. Throughout everything, I felt like they really were happy to be there with me. They were so welcoming and friendly, I felt right at home. This feeling was tenfold on the day of the wedding! I had 6 bridesmaids, my grandmother, mother, mother-in-law, and two year old niece all getting hair and make up in addition to myself. All the women I hold near and dear to my heart- I had such peace of mind knowing they were in the good care of the Brugatto hair and make up crew. It was a completely chill girls hangout the morning of my wedding. The artists managed the widely varying hair styles, make up preferences, and personalities of my group like they were family. Their energy exactly matched us to ensure the vibe was right that morning (another seemingly small thing but just another wonderful observation I wanted to share). Long story short Everyone felt so comfortable, I got so many compliments from my bridal party about their positive experience with the Brugatto team. And oh my goodness DID WE LOOK GOOOOD !!!! Other things of note- my make up and hair lasted ALL. DAY. My last picture of the night looked just as polished as my first (and yes I went really hard on the dance floor lol). The artists were really good with timing, scheduling, things of that nature. They worked with us on our day-of timeline and made sure we had everyone ready exactly when we needed to be. Salon Brugatto was the best choice for my wedding and if you have needs that sound similar to mine, I know they will make your dreams come true as well. Can't thank them enough!!!!

I had my trial the same day as my second engagement shoot. Due to having to post pone my wedding a whole year because of COVID, I had to find a new MUA. Leia did an amazing job and did exactly what I asked for. I ended up having my hair styled by Krysten because logistically it was easier than driving back and forth for makeup and hair since I live almost 40 mins away from Pompton Plains. Krysten did a beautiful job of styling my hair with curls and giving me a simple braid in the back to keep my hair away from my face. I ended up coming back last week to get my makeup done and my hair curled for my birthday and they did an amazing job again. These ladies are truly the best at hyping you up and making you feel beautiful. Even when I first met them they were super welcoming and it never felt awkward. The salon itself is GORGEOUS. The decor is so nice and you can tell that everything is brand new. They sell a bunch of hair products and random cute gifts. I ended up buying these adorable macaron candles that I gifted myself for my birthday. I'd highly recommend anyone to give this salon a try. Oh and I almost forgot to mention the best part. They have a NESPRESSO MACHINE!!!! Not only do they make you look your best they treat you with a nice warm latte.

Blondes, Beware -- Master Colorist? More Like Master Mess…read more Let's normalize being honest when asked, "Do you know how to do blonde hair?" I've been coming to this salon on and off for years -- not for the owner, but for the few stylists who actually know what they're doing when it comes to blondes. I made the mistake of trusting the so-called "master colorist" after not touching my hair for an entire year. Huge regret. For $280, I expected professional results -- not brassy, uneven, yellow-toned hair that clearly shows in every filtered photo posted. Filters won't hide the lack of skill. If you're a stylist and a client sits in your chair asking for a service outside your level -- just say so. There's no shame in turning down work that's not in your wheelhouse. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. My advice? If you're blonde and care about your hair, go elsewhere.
