Ride ended up being $10 more than what an Uber would've cost. Whatever, I wanted to be supportive of taxi companies. When I pulled out my card, he asked if I had cash. I got irritated and told him that from the beginning, I SAID I was paying with a credit card. He asked me for a tip on an $18.40 fare. I tipped him $1.60 to make it an even $20 cause he wasn't overly friendly nor showed excellent customer service. He complained, saying that it costs him $3 every time he has to run a credit card (I knew that was BS). I started arguing with him cause he couldn't even open my door for me and he had the audacity to ask for a tip?! I told him I could've taken an Uber and not deal with this BS. I'd probably die if I ever visited NYC alone. I opted to just call a cab given that I'm pregnant, was by myself, and have never ridden a public bus. I was pleasantly surprised that it's relatively easy to get cab transportation. Just called the number, told the dispatcher my location, and waited a little over 10 minutes by the mega bus stop downtown. Neither the dispatcher nor my cab driver had warm and fuzzy personalities, but I survived. It was a $2 base charge. Traveling from 4th and Walnut to DMU cost about $7.
